I swim a lot and don't usually feel any particular post-swim hunger, but I think it helps that I usually swim in the middle of the day and then go to work or class, or it takes me a while to get home if its after work, so it peters out by the next meal. Sauna or a hot pool is also supposed to help, by raising the body…

In! You had me at 'spreadsheet.'

Speaking of the NWCR, I realized that I now fit the criteria (over 30 pounds lost, maintained for over a year)(JUST!) and signed up. For n= and for Science!!! Apparently they send you questionnaires and things...in the mail? Like, the post? Like, what? C'mon. Science.

You know, browsing through other weight-loss-maintenance studies, one thing that doesn't really pop up much is the famous yo-yo paradigm, at least that I'm seeing. People do, by and large, appear to regain weight, but typically up to about 50% of weight lost - rarely all the way back to the start weight and further. (I…
-
Yeah, read it now. They do reference other studies in the intro, but only analyse the NWCR (naturally - that is their dataset and paper). Their analysis of maintenance regimes is certainly interesting, but they don't mention the maintenance calorie-consumption rates (rather, they lump together the still-losing and…

Thanks! I do wish there were other sources to draw from than the National Weight Loss Registry thoough, feels like a skewed sample, although I haven't looked into the research enough to articulate that beyond the true-at-all-times nag of inference from a single data-set.
-
Source on that?

I don't see it. I think the social, economic and cultural benefits (nevermind the health ones) are higher and more extreme than ever. That there's a 'fat acceptance' movement is just a marker of how prevailaing and insidious the anti-fat movement (and i'm really not, broadly speaking, in the fat acceptance camp - I just…

Yeah, ignore it. I weighed daily for a few months at one point, and could track my period like clockwork by the 2 pound weight gain right before it.
-
1250 at the moment, somewhat more on exercise intensive days and the occassional un-tracked meal, with about 60-70 lb to lose. Adjusting a bit upwards every 10lbs down or so.
-
Add me! I lost about 35-40 a few years ago and now am back to finish the job...another 50-60 (I think) to go.
-
My whole right side is a bit bigger - leg, arm, boob, love handle...it was less noticeable when I was thinner, and I guess will never go away entirely. I'm like 99% sure I am the only person who has ever noticed any of it.

I love weighing in everyday and getting those data points. I'm not freaked out by daily fluctuations - to the contrary, seeing them makes me more sanguine about trusting the trend than if I had just a weekly weight check that would have me wondering whether that was just a high day or a low day or what.
-
One more anecdote - I saw some increase in strength while on a deficit, a fairly steep one even, on 1300-1400 cals a day at 200+ pounds. I went from never having touched a weight in my life, starting with just the empty 20kg bar, to sticking to 5*5 and getting to 50kg squat in about 3-4 months. BUT, I also lost about 15kg…

Don't know about long runs, but i've used a cup for long hikes...never had any issues. Just the thought of using a pad on a run is like nails on blackboard though. (Mind, I hate pads under all circumstances.)

What's wrong with regular old coffee? I sometimes have turkish-style with no sugar, and I usually average a cappucinno a day, regular milk, no sugar, decent sized mug. I work out of cofes a lot, so slowly nursing a single cup of coffee for hours - usually just about the cheapest thing on the menu - is one of life's great…

Interesting! I will try this today. I swim 3-4 times a week and my skin actually seems ok, but my hair isn't liking it.

Hey! Twins-ish, SW 230 CW 199 (yay) GW 150ish, but immedaite challenge of getting to 165 by mid-November for a thing.
-
I like daily, it actually amkes me less anxious and gives me more of a sense of ordinary daily fluctuations. Every individual weigh-in is less of a big deal, than if it was a big weekly thing where I would be expecting to see progress every single time.

Big fan of open diaries over here. Love to nose around other people's. Add me!

Yeah, if it's not something you like, its not something you like. Personally, I love it (but it's also a staple here, had it every day since I was a kid.) I would say though that cottage cheese is really a savoury thing - I eat with hot sauce, mustard, chilli, maybe mixed in with a vegetable salad or tuna, or as a side to…

I try to adapt swimming calories via a distance calculator of some sort. Its still probably not perfect, but I know what distance I swam precisely, whereas how long exactly is rougher - some laps are slower than others, sometimes I get stuck behind someone slow, sometimes I rest for a few minutes, etc - and there's more…

The concern wasn't that the coke would dehydrate her as such, but more that she would be rationing her sole source of water and thus not drinking enough. I mean, this was 14 hours of activity a day, constant walking, climbing, scoutcraft, cooking, cleanup, etc, all outdoors, temperatures commonly reaching 35C and at times…

Hi all, back in it for a longish haul again, add me! (Especially open-diarists...I love looking for ideas and inspirations.)

Immediate mini-goal is to get the 'if everyday were like today...' thing at the end of the day to be under 85kg in five weeks. I decided arbitrarily that that was the point whenI would indulge in a decent amount of new underwear, because current lot is both old and too large. A day with a lot of exercise sees me at 88 or…

When I was a camp counsellor, there was a kid (maybe 13-14 years old) who would only, only drink diet coke. No water, no tea, no juice, just diet coke. I repeat - no water. She came for the two+ weeks, outdoor camping in a very hot climate, hikes, swims, etc, with a couple of boxes of 2-liter diet coke bottles, and her…

ooh me too. I love checking out other people's diaries. (And mine is open and aiming for brutal honesty!)
