I don't do anything special for recovery, just try to keep my diet right. I do often drink a cold glass of chocolate milk after a long run. Nothing beats it, and it's as good as any for a "recovery drink" as far as I know. Also, I've never tried it but many people I know use foam rolling to loosen up stiff muscles, and IT…

They reportedly have anti-inflammatory properties, and are high in potassium. Also, that gooey part that forms when soaked aids in hydration. Whether the reports are true or not remains to be seen, these are the reasons I consume them.

Your stomach expands to accommodate the amount of food that you eat and goes back to its original size once the food passes on to…

If you're using your running shoes for things other than running, then the tread will wear faster and possibly in a different way than if they were just being used to run. For example, if you're doing jumping jacks and side lunges in them with 30DS, you will wear down the bottom edges of the shoes in a way that may…

Why do you have to stop? Breathing issue or muscle issue... or mental issues? A lot of running is in your head. If it's breathing, slow down. If it's weak or fatigued muscles, cross train more. If it's mental - stop psyching yourself out. That said, in my experience the best way to run longer is to run longer. Even if you…

Are you talking pronation? If you go to a running speciality store, they will usually put you on a treadmill and record your gait, then tell you if you over or under pronate, or are neutral. Based on that, they can recommend a pair of running shoes that will possibly help alleiviate the discomfort you are experiencing when…

Have you tried wearing a compression under shirt? I know Under Armour has them, but I'm sure you could find them elsewhere possibly for less money than UA if you did some googling.

I only use real sugar (white or brown depending on what I am having), or honey.

I prefer Jeff Galloway, personally. Both should work if you stick to the schedule, it's just a matter of preference. Training is a commitment, but it's important if you want to finish well and injury free. That said, I failed at sticking to the training when I did my first half, and I won't be making that mistake again.

As far as I know, your body can't tell time. Eat and exercise at time that works for your schedule, and that you can maintain long term. I don't eat dinner until 9-10PM sometimes because that's when my day ends. Sometimes I work out at 6am, sometimes at 8pm. These fluctuations don't seem to have hindered my progress.

Add more liquid to your smoothie, or reduce the amount of chia seeds. I personally use them in my oatmeal, and not my drinks.

I live alone as well, and I love my food saver. I've had it for years, and I use it often. Not only does it make your frozen food last longer sans freezer burn, the packages take up a lot less space than little tupperwares. I always write down on the bag with permanent marker my item name, servings in the package, etc so…

I didn't enjoy running until I got good shoes, meant for running and fitted for my gait, stride, etc. Without proper shoes, my shins burned during runs, my knees ached long after I'd finished, and my lower back was often sore. With good shoes, those aches and pains are all (mostly) behind me. Like anything else, if you go…

Cow's milk contains saturated fat and cholesterol; almond milk is free of both saturated fat and cholesterol. The only thing that cow's milk has more of than almond milk is protein.

I love overnight oats. I usually micriowave for 10-15 seconds to take the chill out. I add a Tbsp chia seeds to all my oats too. Here are my two favorites. It doesn't necessarily have to be 8 cups, but one should try to drink between half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound they weigh, daily.

I use my HRM on every run - indoors, outdoors, long runs, short runs, races, etc. I keep my HR between 176-182, and I run about a 10:00 minute mile. My speed has not increased as I got more fit - my speed has increased only semi-recently because I decided to actually work on increasing my speed.
