While meat and cheese are good low-carb choices, too much protein can raise blood glucose, albeit not att he same rate as carbs.. How about a fat bomb? http://wholenaturallife.com/2012/12/17/lemon-coconut-delights-another-delicious-way-to-eat-your-coconut-oil/ I skip the honey and add some liquid sucralose (EZ-Sweet) There…

I like shakes for the convenience factor. I have one at least 4 days per week - either for breakfast or a snack before a workout (and yes, I eat real food too). However, I'm with albertabeefy in questioning the nutritional value of Special K, Slimfast, Glucerna etc. MUCH more bang for the buck with a quality protein powder…

While blood sugar can flucuate due to illness, stress, medications, etc., the single greatest influence on blood glucose is carbohydrate consumption. To explain your spikes, look at your diary and compare the level of carbs you are consuming by meal.

never have I been so thankful thank I live in the boonies with no Carl Jrs/Hardees.

I have a Sole e35. It's very sturdy, smooth, quiet and withstood my highest weight. I also tried a Precor, but didn't find the stride comfortable.

Ehhh... as far as meal replacement goes, I have a protein shake as a breakfast often... very often. It's quick, easy, portable and low carb ( mine is just almond milk, powder and chia - no fruit) and that's all I'm looking for in a breakfast.

I wear a Fitbit and it gives me a calorie adjustment for all movement, so technically I do count everything. I don't eat back many, if any, exercise calories so, that it's all moot.

Very very true! I was a caffeine ADDICT. I downed a pot of coffee every morning and switched to Diet Pepsi in the afternoon. If DP wasn't available, I settled for Diet Coke. No soda available - I made do with iced tea until I had my second pot of coffee in the evening. Now I have coffee if someone offers it to me and…

I would have to seriously suggest you (your husband) NOT follow the above recommendation for Barnard's book. It's not-so-thinly disguised vegan propaganda I second the recommendations to check out http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.php. You can also access it at bloodsugar101.com Lots of research explained in an…

I haven't been able to figure that out either - I just don't see how you can argue with success. Actually, my doctor doesn't argue with me at all about my diet and the endo is 100% on board. The CDE/RD was appalled and every now and then I think about going to another class just to say "Boo yah! Neener neener neener!" ;-P…

Monday - zumba class (1 hour), Power Sculpting class (1 hour - planks, squats, lunges, bi/tri, chest, donkey kicks), 1 mile elliptical, 5 mile stationary bike Tuesday - zumba class (1 hour), 1 mile elliptical, 5 mile stationary bike Wednesday - zumba class (1 hour), 1 mile elliptical, 2 miles walking Thursday - Aqua Zumba,…

I consider my diet more primal than paleo, but I do think it can be effective in weight loss provided one eats at a deficit. Certainly it is much more healthy than the standard American diet. De-emphasizing carbs has made a tremendous difference in my health. Because I have diabetes, I do limit fruits and honey.

Try a ...not sure what they are called ... corn pad? bunion pad? for the sore spot. Moleskin works wonders for preventing blisters. A pair of dance shoes is a good idea as well - i move much better in a pair of Nike Musiques than I did in a pair of new Balance cross-trainers that served me well for other aerobic…

Carbs - I'm diabetic and have Hashimoto's thyroiditis As part of the restriction on carbs, I've eliminated Gluten - celiac All other grains - see carbs/diabetes/Hashimoto's corn - carb/grain/diabetes/Hashimoto's + an intolerance And I've also eliminated soy - hashimoto's + an intolerance peanuts - an intolerance shellfish…

I don't log cleaning. I don't log any exercise including Zumba, elliptical, stationary bike or walking/jogging. I have a Fitibt which tracks my steps and sends a calorie adjustment based on activity. I rarely eat back more than 100-200 exercise calories so it doesn't matter that much to me

I struggled for a year to get doctors to take my complaints seriously because all insisted I could not be having thyroid issues since I was not struggling to lose weight. Finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's in January. I've also had to have a sonogram and uptake/scan and will be meeting with the endo again next month to…

Acceptable range of error is 20% across the board for all meters. My freestyle is around 8 points higher than the lab

Perhaps an abdominal binder? Something like this http://www.amazon.com/Gabrialla-Breathable-Elastic-Abdominal-Binder/dp/B000WFT3II/ref=sr_1_6?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1365480663&sr=1-6&keywords=abdominal+supports I wore one after abdominal surgery and found it fairly comfortable, although I'm not sure if it would roll during…

My diary is also open. I keep my carbs at 20%. Because I have celiac sprue, Hashimoto's and diabetes, I have eliminated all grains and severely restrict fruits and legumes. If you are interested in lowering your carb intake, it is helpful to raise macros for fat and protein.

in addition to ramping up the dosage slowly, it can also help to switch to the extended release (XR) version

Love my Fitibt! If I lost it tomorrow (please, NO!), I'd absolutely order another. I find it extremely motivating

The actual grams associated with the percentage are just to the right of the % box. Just play with the percentage until you get the grams you're looking for :-)

I can't answer for "we" - only "me". Legumes are on my severely restricted list. I love them (except peanuts - intolerance), but can only eat 1/8-1/4 cup before my blood sugar is adversely affected. I severely restrict fruit for the same reason. It's really a good idea for Type 2 diabetics to rely less on the standard GI…

I can 2nd, 3rd and 4th (and on and on) both of these reading recommendations. And the suggestion of a much lower carb, much higher fat diet than is recommended by most nutritionists/dieticians. It has made a huge difference in my overall health

I have a Freestyle Lite and think it's pretty accurate. I take it with me when I have bloodwork and it's been +/- 10, so well within the accuracy standards.

Well said. Carbohydrates are the macro-nutrient I choose to strict limit. I am diabetic, have celiac sprue and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Excessive carbs are certainly NOT my friend. Brain function is dependent on glucose, not carbohydrates. I get all the carbs I "need" from vegetables, seeds/nuts and some dairy. I've…
