Yep. You won't know until you get there. And you don't even have to decide right away when you do. Everyone looks a little uneven when they first lose weight - it's not a bad idea to take a little maintenance break when you hit your first goal, let everything settle, and see what you think then. And if you do decide to…

Yeah, if you're on MFP you probably have some vague idea of what a calorie is, or at least how many you're supposed to have in a day, but that makes you the exception. There have been tons of studies that start out trying to show how useful different nutrition labels are but end up showing that the average person has no…

I'll tell you what I just found out - I had hip pain with both my pregnancies, but they were fine afterwards. Until I started running, and then I had all sorts of weird ankle/foot problems, that finally got bad enough that the pain wound up in my SI joint. And I *finally* went to the chiropractor, who took an x-ray that…

Unless you're going to eat nothing but protein isolate, Crisco, and sugar, you're going to be better off tracking what's actually in your food and not guessing. But you're using MFP, right? It does all the calculations for you. Just log your food and look at the totals in each category, no big deal.

Heh, this too. Most women I know who say "but I bulk up just looking at a dumbbell!" just tend to store more fat in their arms. And yeah, your body doesn't grow/shrink proportionally like the math says it should - you'll put on a little muscle here but lose a little fat there and then freak out because you're all…

You don't want to cause any imbalances, but you do want to even out if you have some. Like most people with desk jobs, my front delts are way dominant, so I do compound shoulder exercises and then isolation stuff only for my rear delts. And, you know, you never know. I have naturally big shoulders and am short-waisted, to…

I'll be there! I'm just aiming for finishing. I don't forsee a problem with any of the obstacles, but my ankle rehab is going a lot slower than I thought it would so... I've still never run a straight 5k. I'm just going to tape and hope. It does make me wish there were just obstacle course races without all the boring…

You'll have to open your diary if you want real advice, but go back to basics - the "healthiness" of what you're eating is not nearly as relevant as the quantity if you're trying to lose weight. Eating either too much or too little could be stalling you.

Hm, nope. I put in my SW and CW and neither looked anything like what I did then or do now. They're so... smooth. I wish I had been that not-lumpy then and I'm glad I have muscle definition now. I'm definitely smaller than the picture of my current weight.

There are lots of good bodyweight programs - right now I like You Are Your Own Gym/Body By You, I even got the app for my iPod and it's totally worth the $3. You might want to try eating a little over maintenance while you try to build some muscle. You will gain a little fat along with it, but it won't be too hard to shift…

This... no. Well, yes, because it's a tasty way to get water into you, but it's not flushing fat, it's just hydrating you. Cucumber and mint are mild diuretics so you might drop some water weight. My favorite thing to drink in the summer is water with cucumber, mint, and lime, because it's delicious and refreshing. But…

Your diary is closed so we can't see what you're actually eating, but some general thoughts: First, make sure you're eating enough. If you are set to 2 lbs/week, change it to no higher than 1.5, you don't weigh 200+ lbs. If you are exercising, make sure to eat back at least some of those calories. If that's all good, you…

There's no need to run if you don't like it. It is cheap and easy, but it is also sucky and unfun. Find exercise you like and do that - whatever you pick is going to be better than the running you don't do because you hate it. As far as losing 2 lbs a week, that's not going to be particularly healthy. The rule of thumb is…

I used to do that with my mom in the 80s! Can't tell you about results personally, because I think I got bored and wandered off after a couple of weeks, but I think it's a solid program.

When I've seen push & pull together, it's been the old-school bodybuilding style of working opposing muscle groups - so you'd do howevemany back/chest or bi/tri supersets, not all of one and then all of the other. What led you to do it that way? Right now, I'm doing a boring old 5-day split with a light cardio/core day…

My work mug is very professional-looking, it's maroon and just has a CM in an oval on it. But I use it because it makes me laugh - those are my initials, and when my mom gave it to me she told me this whole story about how she custom-ordered it just for me. About a week later, she admitted she'd really just picked it up at…

I don't watch that one, but I almost always set the tvs at the gym to the Food Network - it's usually Cupcake Wars or Chopped for me. The funny thing is that I'm not the only one who does it - half the time I come in and it's one news channel and three food programs on the 4 tvs. (And I know that one is only a news channel…

I just hate bananas in any form other than "a banana", sorry about the allergy. Anyway, huge resource of tasty vegan treats: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/

At the gym where I train, most of the trainers chat in a friendly way. At the other gym I go to, the trainers are more all business. And mostly I'm replying because, well, feel free to scoff if I'm reading more into your post than there is, but you seem to be looking for something else. Remember that trainers are…

No? I've never heard of anyone bruising themselves from stretching before, unless they fell down while they were doing it. That sounds like a "get a doctor to look into that" thing to me.

Y here too - and I like it for the same reasons. Going after work is a little dicey, people are kind of ruder then, but the mornings are almost always douche-free. And they have a good pool, and there's a decent chance of being able to find one when I'm traveling. I also go to a small gym near my daughter's school where I…

We went through phases - sometimes it was three frozen dinners and four restaurant dinners a week, and sometimes it was the other way around. I used to pack lunches for my mom & myself - they were always a sandwich, a granola bar, a couple of cookies, and a piece of fruit. Which isn't as bad as some people I know (my…

That's pretty impressive. We should try to be kind to the mentally ill, but that's pushing it. PROBABLY the right response would be just to smile sweetly while pitying the poor woman for whatever inner demon is tormenting her. My natural reaction would have been to take off the shorts and throw them at her while yelling,…

One trick is to think about relaxing your ears, the back of your jaw, or a spot in the middle of your forehead - the rest of your face will kind of fall in line. Other than that, it's just practice, like the rest of your form. And you do have to practice - clenching your teeth really does give you an extra boost, so your…

I use the Smith machine all the time! It's great for inverted rows, and you're not hogging up a piece of equipment anyone ever wants to use. Hm... can we start a movement promoting curls in the smith machine?

Still getting over mine - I can do everything except run now. I still went to the gym every day - did the recumbent bike in my boot or swam (no pushing off with the bad foot), and pretty much the same workouts as before except no legs - you can still push, press, and pull, you just have to make sure you're not standing…

If you like the idea of lifting heavy, then you should do that! The best workout is always the one that you do consistently. Get either New Rules of Lifting for Women or Starting Strength - both are good programs for beginners and will walk you through everything you need to know. Then just follow the programs. If you have…

The rule of thumb is that you should aim for losing around 1% of your bodyweight per week. So this is totally reasonable, provided that you're starting at 700 lbs. I actually feel kind of sorry for Dr. Oz, because he's so desperate for material that he's become willing to promote any fringey cult batpoo crazy thing that…

Cardio? 2-4, along with whatever song is playing on the iPod. Lifting? "Head up chest out elbows in arms straight head up knees aligned don't lean forward pull press bend head up dammit" more or less. And then 2-4 with a side of "how can I avoid my next set?" during rests.

1.How often do you meet with yours? Twice a week. If I had the time and $, I'd go more often. 2. How often does the PT change your plan? 3. What type of plans do you get set?Have they changed much over time? These two are together because I changed what I wanted - originally I wanted to just get a good base and a solid…
