  • If you're eating fewer calories than you burn, and you keep it up for several months, your weight should come down, even if it does so slowly. Get a food scale. Weigh EVERYTHING. Don't trust the MFP database, as some foods are wrong, and they may be things you eat a lot. Try the USDA database. I constantly find that the…
  • Anyone remember Vitameatavegamin? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rvxxa66Co4&feature=related
  • I'm thinking a washable muslin drawstring bag would be perfect if I'm popping it without any oil. Trapped steam makes popcorn tough. That's a project for this weekend.
  • Love the dress, too! It really shows your new figure!
  • Don't buy a lot of unfamiliar things and go crazy trying to change everything at once. Pick a new recipe and try that first. Gradually switch over to healthier things as you find you prefer them. I mean, how many calories did you just buy, and how many breakfasts will it take to eat that much?
  • If you're eating enough to have to log it, God bless your colon!
  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes, sliced. 2 Tbsp olive oil 2 Tbsp honey 1 tsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp salt, optional Preheat oven to 350F Lightly oil the bottom of a 13x9x2 glass baking pan with part of the olive oil. Put the sliced sweet potatoes in it. Mix the rest of the olive oil, honey and lemon juice well. Pour over the potatoes.…
  • Make a vegetable soup and puree it after it cooks. The "mush" that would have been left in the blender will turn into smoothness. Then you can vary the seasonings and vegetables so not every soup tastes the same.
  • Looks like you're exercising much more than you used to. That means you can eat more calories. But as long as you eat 1200 NUTRITIOUS calories, aren't hungry, and aren't feeling crappy, you don't have to. But are you following a program you can imagine following the rest of your life? If you're just tolerating this diet…
  • Vegetables are juice plus fiber. V8 is the juice of canned vegetables. It's not the same as vegetables, but it's better than no vegetables at all. But lots of things you probably like are vegetables, too, like pasta sauce.
  • You need new activities that you don't associate with eating. And they need to be fun, no apologies for spending your free time on yourself, so you don't compensate with guilt and eating.
  • Right. You may get a lot of unpopped kernels, just like with commercial microwave popcorn. I'm going to try pre-soaking it to see if that helps. Fresh popcorn may do better than stuff that's been drying out for months.
  • Open your food diary to get comments. It's hard to imagine you need to lose weight if you find MFP is making you eat more than you were eating to get overweight in the first place.
  • I have a smart phone and just bop around the kitchen scanning all the ingredient packages. It's fun to use my little toy :)
  • One thing I will do, if a recipe calls for browning ground beef and then adding water, I add the water as part ice cubes. The fat becomes solid and can be picked off with a fork, then you reheat the water and continue cooking as usual. There's less loss of meat juices.
  • You go, girl!
  • If it isn't measurable, I don't log it. I would buy the lean meat and count the calories the same as if you didn't drain it. What's the worse than can happen? -- you lose weight faster.
  • If your B12 was so low you needed shots, yet you're physically capable of digesting pills now, you may have been deficient in a lot more than B12.
  • B12 doesn't give you energy. The symptoms of too little B12 are 1. an unusual anemia with very large blood cells, 2. and damage to the nerves, especially the ones in the spinal cord that control sense of touch/position. If the doctor doesn't catch the anemia on a blood test, the first sign may be difficulty walking and…
  • Have you talked to your doctor about learning to give yourself shots? Lots of people do.
  • Gallbladder disease can happen to anyone, especially women over 40. Losing weight rapidly can bring on an attack, but lots of healthy people are walking around with gallstones that don't bother them. If you don't already have gallstones, you're a lot more likely to get them from being overweight in the first place. The…
  • B12 shots are for people who lack a chemical in their stomach that allows them to absorb B12 before the digestive enzymes destroy it. Those people can't take B12 pills. Because doctors could charge for the shots every month, some used it as a source of steady income, having people come back every month. Very few of them…
  • You're losing pounds fast, but it isn't possible to lose fat weight that fast. You were probably retaining more water than you thought. Eating healthier, with less sodium, and exercising more, will help mobilize that water. Once you've caught up on that backlog, you'll settle into the slower, steadier loss of fat. You may…
  • I set mine to sedentary. I sit most of the day at work, though I move from seat to seat. "Sedentary" isn't the same as "comatose." (Apparently not a lot of comatose people enroll in MFP, so it isn't one of the choices, lol.) I also have zero planned exercise. Whenever I do exercise, I log the calories. Then I can eat more…
  • What gets me are threads that are 7 pages long by the time I even see them, then I can't keep up reading the responses as fast as people are posting them, and I end up just adding a response at the end without reading the last 4 pages of responses to see if anyone posted the same thing, just like I'm doing now, lol.
  • If water makes you feel better, go with it, but the "eight glasses of water a day" recommendation includes all moisture in everything you eat and drink. Unless you're eating ashes, there's a lot of water in your food, just like your own body is mostly water. Cutting back on salt and caffeine will help reduce your fluid…
  • I've had it since I was a kid. I guess it was the point where I was taller than my blood pressure, lol. I have to anticipate problems when I first get up in the morning, when I arise from a squat, when it's really hot out, or after I donate blood. Fortunately I don't get it from standing in one place, like a lot of people…
  • If you eat dairy, there are lots of fat free choices which have high protein: Skim milk, fat free cottage cheese, fat free yogurt are good alone or used in recipes. Meat/fish/poultry is easy and can be surprisingly low calorie if you prepare it right. Egg whites have high protein and no fat, and can be substituted for…
  • We have a treadmill at home. When I'm chilly, I get on it until I warm up. If I can drive off the cold with exercise, it means I'm burning calories (literally!). Then I add back layers one at a time until I'm chilly in a sweater under a throw blanket, and I get back on again and strip down to a t-shirt to exercise. Feeling…
  • 1- What was your changing moment that made you say enough is enough? And start your journey? I tend to be motivated by numbers on the scale. I was NOT going to go into the 160s. 2- What was the motivation that kept you going when it got tough? I've done this before (when I was NOT going to go into the 150s, LOL). I know it…
