I agree -- that way you get a reward for your hard work -- more food

It's not the amount of deficit that is dangerous; it's whether you are eating enough to get your essential nutrients. If you aren't trained in nutrition, it's hard to do that on less than 1200 calories a day.

Thanks everyone!

You can't use one calorie level for everyone. It depends not only on gender, but also on age, height, weight, and activity level. MFP will tell you how much you can eat without gaining. Just enter your current data and choose maintain your current weight.

I bought one for a dollar a Woolworths about 30 years ago, and I still use it at work. (I've got a bigger one from the cooking store for home.) We're not measuring cocaine. It's close enough. If weighing your food makes you OCD, maybe you'd be better off with Weight Watchers points than with MFP, which is built on…

Most people are constipated because they're too busy to be regular. Also, any change in your daily habits can affect your bowels, because you "go" when your brain-bowel neurological connections are trained to expect it. If you usually went after a big meal and now you're eating frequent small meals, you may need to retrain…

We had the "Thingmaker" for those creepy crawler toys. We ran out of the expensive "goop" pretty quickly, and became proto-recyclers chopping up plastic that was going to be thrown out. We'd melt that down and make plastic bugs instead of the rubbery ones. We grew up in Wilmington, Delaware where little kids could tell…

Chips merely dilute the salsa goodness. I eat it with a spoon and consider it "gazpacho."

I haven't done 100, but I would suggest you set realistic goals. Plan on this taking 2 years. Yes, you lost 25 lbs in 12 weeks before, but you regained it. You were eating so little you couldn't wait to go back to eating "normally." You want to reset your brain about what "normal" is. If you can't imagine yourself doing it…

It's funny, my brother is the one that had one of those. He was too little to say Matryoshka (if we even knew the word in the first place). He named it a "girlie-girlie doll." He was also the one with all the stuffed animals, all of whom had their own personalities. Grandmother made some sock monkeys, then some of those…

I weigh every day, but because I do, I know not to take 4 lbs in 2 days seriously. You ate fast food? It's full of salt. Be happy you didn't gain 10 lbs. Eat low, low sodium foods for a couple days, and watch how fast that weight comes off. But it's meaningless -- water comes and goes. It has nothing to do with your fat…

My Chemical Romance gets me moving, especially the "Danger Days" album. Especially "Planetary Go" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvfNmXbVHi4

Just don't panic when you wake up with chest pain from the reflux.

That's very true, but the point is she has four very young children in the house. Not only does a child with RAD or FAS require extra attention, he/she could be dangerous to the other children if not closely supervised.

It's not that easy. I have several friends who have gone through it. They ended up adopting from Asia, because there were no healthy newborns in the US. Adopting an older child from foster care requires a special family. If you read those descriptions in the paper about the kids who want to be adopted, they often have…

What about leave the adoptable children for the childless couples on the waiting lists?

I've found you can move just as fast to punk rock, but when you call it "Latin," you've given yourself permission to move your body in public like that ;)

The population in the US and Western Europe is shrinking, not growing. The demographics are actually lopsided toward elderly and soon-to-be-elderly people, and without immigration, it would be worse. If her well educated children grow up to provide development assistance to families in other countries (and to be smart…

The world is overpopulated because too many people live in countries where women don't have the right to decide on family size, or because they have such high preventable mortality that even with a large family, parents can't be sure any of their children will live to adulthood. If you want to reduce the world birthrate,…

I'm no good in verbal sparring. I clam up when under stress. (It's generally a useful fault, so I don't make things worse by saying things I'll regret to people I love,) But that guy needed a timely dressing-down. My fantasy retribution would be to take a photo of the guy with a cell phone, post it in the women's lockers…

When they make a nonalcoholic guiness on tap, it will be all over for me. I don't like the buzz from beer, but I love the taste. I would drink much more if it weren't inebriating.

Alcohol is a diuretic. You may have started the week dehydrated. There is no way any significant change will occur in a week, so don't even worry about it. Any change on the scale at this point is meaningless. It will be several weeks before the real weight loss is significant enough to be noticeable over the normal ups…

All those benefits come from salmon, too. Why eat sardines when you can eat salmon? As far as enjoying small fish, there are fish called smelts which are eaten fresh caught (not canned), dipped in batter, fried and eaten whole. They're pretty good, but I don't think they're very healthy that way.

It doesn't sound like you're measuring things. The amount you are eating and the amount you should be eating aren't going to be different enough for you to get the right amount by just "cutting down." When you're doing it right, you won't feel starved. Low iron makes people crave things, so it's harder to lose weight. Talk…

Carbs don't make me hungry, so long as I have the protein first. My body knows what it needs, and it isn't going to be satisfied with calories alone.

Have you tried the stuff they serve in Japanese restaurants? It's actually very healthy, if you ignore the sodium content: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/402918-japanese-carrot-ginger-salad-dressing

I ignore the sugar limit. I'm over every day, just from the lactose in milk. It's not hurting me any.

Your kidneys and lungs do this for you. Your food intake isn't really a big part of it. If you hyperventilate chronically it can make you fatigued by throwing off your acid/base balance.

Definitely I can control my appetite more by starting with high protein foods.
