I only have one year under my belt, but several races. It seemed to me that, however the swim start was organized, there were always plenty of people fudging/manipulating their starting placement. Sometimes just so they could race alongside a friend. The only time anybody seemed to care was in a pool/lap swim when a weak…

Awesome! Was thinking I was going to be the only poster here. I am super jealous. I want that 920XT so bad! I need a bike upgrade though and already have a 310XT so that one will have to wait until after the bike, which should be this spring. Looking forward to your post.

I could take that post and repost it as my own. Turning 43 this year, same race history, and planning my first half this year. Good luck on your new year!

I use the Mio Link as my HRM. It is water proof and is worn on the wrist. It sells for $99. I love this thing as I don't have something around my chest. I like having the heart rate data on my swims as it gives me another metric to gauge my progress, but I agree with Scott, it is not really necessary for swim workouts. I…

Another bump for TrainerRoad. Have been using it for a month now and it is an absolute bargain. I have a dual monitor setup in my office and usually watch old Kona replays for inspiration on one monitor with TrainerRoad running on the other. I have tried the Sufferfest videos, but they seem a little corny to me. Either…

Bought these Hoka Bondi 3's for last weekend's Dallas Half Marathon. Love them, but think they will be 5-10k shoes for me. They are ridiculously light, lighter than my Asics Gel Nimbus 15's. They did rub slightly in a couple of places after about 9 miles. Sticking with Asics going forward on longer runs, but I was…

Derrick, that is how the addiction starts! Hopefully it will change your life like it has for so many others. Good luck! Friend as many people as you can from this group and you will have a good base of people to draw from.

I am no expert, but I train pretty hard fairly often, am 42 years old (no spring chicken), and never feel a true "pain" in my chest. If I did, I would be off to a doctor ASAP. People have different pain thresholds though and, from what I can tell, I think mine is pretty high in comparison to most people. Regardless, even…

I think that will be difficult. Not sure if this is the only, or easiest way, but you could do this if you have two computers. Always sync him to one and you to the other. You could swap the Ant+ usb stick between computers accordingly. So your order of operation would go something like this: 1. Install Garmin agent on…

Used trainer road for the first time today. Did the 20 minute test, which is actually a 1 hour workout with a 20 minute stress test in the middle. Kicked my butt. It is designed to dial in the software and gauge your fitness level. Seems to have worked well. Looking forward to starting some of their training programs.…

Throwing my 2 cents out there. My running has gone from 4-5 days a week down to 1-2 in the winter. Mileage from 30-40 to 10-15. I'm still working out 5-6 days a week, but more bike and swim workouts as I can't stand to run on a treadmill so I only run outside as weather in N. TX allows. Funny thing I have noticed is that…

Man Scott, I totally forgot about Trainer Road. Had heard about it over the Summer, but now that I'm having to work the indoor trainer, had totally forgot about it. Thanks for throwing that out there! Just signed up.

Scott, I bought a Go Pro and set it up in my pool to capture my stroke from an underwater perspective. Video from poolside can help too though. As for dragging legs, a lot of triathletes have this problem because they are concerned with proper sighting so they keep their head tilted up throughout the swim stroke to…

I second what chriscm70 said. Still not syncing automatically. It used to happen almost instantly. On the "modern" view I click "Sync Now" and it works. Kind of a pain to have to take the extra step, but it works. I have thought about disconnecting and reconnecting as that might do the trick unless it is a programming…

Just to add another consideration in there: It is vital, IMHO, to know your HR zones if you are trying to make progress in exercise or weight loss. Training in zone 2 for extended periods of time causes dramatic increases in the mitochondria in your cells. These are the powerhouses in your cells and directly impact your…

It absolutely is possible. I was 220 and couldn't run 400m without stopping; feeling like I was dying. Ran my first 5k 6 months later. Listen to your body. If it hurts, rest and recover, then get back on the horse.

I have lost right at 70 pounds on MFP. 40 a couple of years ago, then got away for a couple of years, came back and lost the last 30. I am pretty much where I need to be weight-wise, but still use MFP to keep me on track. I train and run in triathlons and runs and have gained quite a bit of experience along the way. If I…
