Thanks for the reminder, in the past I've usually given up drinking Coke but since starting this weight loss/health journey I’ve only had one in the last three months. I’m going to have to think of something new. I usually take a monastic Lenten retreat to the Abby of Gethsemani in Kentucky (http://www.monks.org). A number…

Healthy food doesn't make you live longer it just makes it seem longer.

Do you have daughters? How many teenagers do you have? I've never had more than 6 teenagers at once and never more that 5 teenage daughters which I've had twice. Any communication is good communication. Face to face, texting, heytell, phone, smoke signals, use 'em all if they'll listen.

I know the labels can be off, I’ve scanned the barcodes and gotten different numbers than what’s printed on the box. I also know that a lot of my foods are made from scratch by my wife and when looking to record them I’ve taken a “close fit” in a lot of cases. Thais is why I was shocked to see my calculated weight loss so…

My 2 cents, diet and exercise are NOT the answer. Diet and exercise are how I got fat. Managing your diet and exercise is the answer. There are only two non-surgical ways that I know of the lose weight, decrease the input and increase the output. Take control of your diet and exercise and do this. You can do it!

I lost my first 20 pounds over a 20 month period, it turns out the weight loss was probably do to a medical condition. I found MFP through a co-worker at the end of October and started counting calories for the first time. Out of curiosity I tracked my weight loss measured on my scale against the calculated weight loss…

If you can find a park or golf course around you that has “groomed” trails or at least ones that have been used by others first you will find it easier than breaking your own trails. There is not so much shifting of the snow under your skis which allows you to get used to the length and only have to deal with one or two…

I'm finding lots of info in the Miraculous Medallion on the net but so far nothing about where the striking occurred.

Are you uncomfortable telling inspirational stories about Godly men and women you have known who have not yet been canonized by the Church? I think it's fairly clear that there are events that occur on a daily basis that are outside the realm of human understanding this is the context of my use of the word "Miracle" only…

I belong to a personal parish. A personal parish can be formed by the Bishop if a large number of people in an area share a common charism. Back when the US was experiencing a large number of immigrants from various parts of Europe personal parishes were often formed based on ethnicity when a group wanted to try to…

One of the bride’s maids in our wedding was given a ring by her mother. The two of them had picked it out for her mother when the daughter was a young girl and when the daughter headed off to college mom gave her the ring. It wasn’t an expensive ring but had sentimental value. Sometime early in her senior year she lost the…

That's why I put in the "Dumb Yankee" clause, I could be and I hope I am wrong. We had an exchange student from Germany stay with us twice. She stayed with us a couple of years ago and again this summer with my daughter making a visit to Germany in between. She said she was Christian but wouldn't go to church with us. We…

Maybe I’m just a dumb Yankee but I often think that we only need to look to Europe to see that will happen to us in the next generation or so. In the past couple of years I’ve had daughters spend time in Germany, Italy (summer intern at the Vatican Art Gallery), Poland and one is currently in France, except for Poland they…

Years ago a women in our church was in the same situation as your mother, less than a year after her daughter was born the mother died of cancer. Last year the daughter and one of my daughters were college roommates. I can’t look at the daughter without thinking of the sacrifice her mother and yours were willing to make…

Our Priest tell a story about the first parish he was assigned to after his ordination. It was an intercity parish in a rough neighborhood was a lot of gang activity. Over time he was able to establish a friendship with one of the gang leaders and the gang’s members. They came to him one day and wanted to make him an…

My goal is to get healthy and stay there. If eating to much would get me healthy I’d be there! When I get to a comfortable, healthy weight (what ever that is) I will have reached my goal and I will transition into maintenance mode where I learn to stay there.

We haven't done much in the way of fasting for advent but I'm going to talk to my wife about the idea. One advent activity we did, that our kids liked was to set up our crèche with out Jesus in the manger, we would start the wise men in a far off room of the house. Each day the wise men would be move a little closer to the…

the last couple days it's been about 1 coup of cooked oatmeal with about a dozen raisins, tsp of Honey (I'm a bee keeper), some ground flax seed (my wife thinks this is good for me), some cinnamon, and a big splash of milk.

@Dadof8 - That is almost sad about the True64 box retiring. Almost brings a tear to my eye. [/quote] As it did to mine many a night!

I was receintly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with a hypo active thyroid (first doctor visit in 20 years, I knew I should have waited!) I needed an easy way to track what I was eating and a coworker showed me the MFP app on his droid. I downloaded it to mine and have been using it for about 2 weeks now.

I agree, I think it takes more faith to believe that miracles don't happen than to accept that they do everyday. Here's my motorcycle story. I was riding home one night just after dusk on a hilly country road when the thought popped into mind that I could be really messed up if I were to hit a deer while riding. I backed…

Thanks for the great story Thomas, glad you're still with us. When one of my daughters got home from passing her driving test to get her drivers license she said "Want to know how I passed?" She then emptied about 8 to 10 miraculous medals our of her pocket, she had gone through the house that afternoon and collected all…

I joined the church in ’84 and married a great Catholic women. Our church started perpetual Eucharistic adoration a few years back and I’m able to spend Tuesdays with Jesus! Tuesday afternoons from 4 to 5 pm I’m at adoration. I love the church and the riches it has to offer.

Hello all, Dan from Michigan I'm 57. BMI says I should be around 160 I'd be happy with 180. I peeked at 240 and I'm down 22 lbs from there. My wife and I have been married for 27 years we have eight kids, 1 son and 7 daughters. I've never been much of a dieter, but I'm ready to start.

My down fall is, strike that, was Coke. I used to go through 3, 20oz bottles a day. In Michigan we have a .10 deposit on containers and I have ~$15.00 worth in my cube that I need to take back. I had 1 20 oz. last Saturday and a 12 oz can Monday, I'm cutting back. Good luck.
