Zumba is fantastic - it's a great way to have fun and burn calories all at the same time. The main thing that makes a difference in a Zumba class is your instructor - every instructor is different and he/she generally is responsible for the flow of the class. So I suggest trying it (hey, if anything you can stand in the…

I have three small children - 8, 5, and two. Aside from my two year old, we all eat the same thing. Yes, it's been hard getting them to switch over to a healthier menu. However, just like us adults, the more you substitute the sugary for the healthy, their tastebuds will change. Were my kids receptive to almonds? Not at…

Okay, master of the obvious comment...wedding dresses are really complicated. Really really complicated. So your best bet is to find a seamstress/tailor to help you out. Maybe call a dry cleaner or bridal store for referrals (depending on the size of town you live in). This being said, it could get pricey (do you even know…

I hear ya - I'm in a rush during the week too. Some things that have helped me: * pack lunches the night before if possible * set out all clothes the night before - you don't how many times I've been late because a kid couldn't find a missing shoe. Aargh. Some breakfast items I've come to rely on: * cottage cheese with…

Here's my question...when would they get a chance to pig out on the bad for you food that they like? If you're cooking healthy meals, then that's all the option they have. Sure, not all kids like all veggies or fruits, but don't give them the choice of blueberries or french fries... In my house the kids have to try…

Amen Amy! My Blue Ray of Ghost Protocol is getting worn out (and you have to fast forward to where J makes his entrance). Definitely needing some new material to watch at home.

The Hobbit Les Mis Anna Karenina Thor 2 Hansel and Gretel - don't judge, Jeremy Renner is hot

I had a coworker tell me last week she's so glad I started working here because "I tell it like it is." Oh sweetie...you have no idea. If they could hear my thoughts they'd find out how mean I really am.

Attention! To be felt like she's loved and cherished. A backrub that is just a backrub - unless SHE wants more. She gives all day long: husband, kids, work, friends.... she wants to be given to. We all have "things" - you know what her interests are. Overall, she wants you to pay attention to what her interests are and…

Sometimes it is that last few pounds that really are noticeable. My husband lost 100 pounds - but my dad (granted, he's not the most observant man) didn't comment on it until he lost the last 20 pounds. It was weird - like the last 20 revealed a totally different body that had been stuck in this shell.

I think it's all dependent on the child. My 8 year old still needs naps! He just needs lots of sleep - poor kid gets it from me. My daughter stopped napping around age 3, though. However, we stay with the same rules as daycare - you don't have to sleep, but you must rest. That can include looking at books and quietly…

I have to admit that I didn't read all the responses - so I'm sorry if I repeat something. First of all, it is hard. I have three kids and work full time. However, I found that keeping me healthy kept my family happier and healthier. Mommy is a nasty crab when she feels bad about herself! You have to invest in yourself in…

I'm not gluten free, but my toddler is. So we've tried out many things in the search for yummy food. Fave: Noodles - Tinkyada (they don't turn into a globby mess) Mac & Cheese - Aunt Annies. Bless you Aunt Annies Crackers - Glutino Not so fave: Noodles - DeBoles. Yuck. Just plain yuck. Cookies - he's not really a fan of…

Have you signed up for Zulily? I'm obsessed - an email is sent every day with new sales. It can be anything from kids clothes to dresses to jewelry to shoes to kitchen products. Since they deal with all different companies, it's like a surprise opening my "inbox" everyday!

I did the one in Omaha...just a few pointers for you. * It is not timed, and it's not competitive - if you're competitive, don't do it - you'll be irritated! * You don't line up according to times, so you will be released in waves. Here's the thing - we lined up really early to go in the second wave and get done quickly…

For me, running outside is easier, or at least more motivating. I just keep running, and once you get so far out, you have no choice but to run back. When I'm on the treadmill it's way too easy to cop out and end early.
-
I totally understand! With my first pregnancy I gained so much weight I had to have them cut off. :frown: They're still in a little envelope, just waiting to be resized!

I love quinoa - I find it the easiest thing to make in my pantry right now. So here's what I do... simploy boil your quinoa in some chicken broth (you can use water, but the broth improves the taste). Then you saute some veggies - I use whatever I have laying around - mushrooms, eggplant, tomatoes, squash, okra, celery,…

You have to find what's best for you. You also have to understand that the Y is more than a gym. The YMCA is a nonprofit, and has a mission statement. They provide community programs - each area is different depending on what the community needs. They provide membership assistance, childcare (usually for free), summer…

I did the one in Omaha in July. If you're a competitive runner, it's actually really frustrating - you literally can't run the entire thing because you get behind a lot of people walking, the color stations you need to walk through to get a lot of color on you... It's not timed either (at least ours wasn't) so there wasn't…

Okay...so I'm signed up for next June in Colorado. Luckily (or unluckily), my husband did it this year, and I went with to cheer him on, so I know what I'm in for! Currently I'm doing bootcamp three days a week and TRX one day. It's been too stinkin' hot to run outside much! So now I'm starting to sign up for some 5Ks to…

Maybe this is a dumb question... but couldn't you still attend the functions, just not eat the cake/ice cream/etc.? My husband gave up sweets for a year - God bless him I don't know how - but he was very honest with people. Yes, we still went to birthday parties and get togethers, but he was very honest about telling…

I'm so sorry...and I understand. I gained 17 pounds in one month with my youngest - they also did an ultrasound to rule out twins because I gained weight so fast. My mother used to joke that she could sit next to me and feel the heat radiating off me. And you wonder why my house could have penguins living in it? Just know…

I love socks...so I had to chime in. I have some white pumas that I love - they're nice and cushy and I love them. I have under armour anklets and I hate them. However, for every race I do, I have these really cool knee high under armour rainbow socks. I wear them every time, they've become my thing, and I always make new…

Here's my advice (and I'm too ADD to read through all the other replies, so someone might have already said this). Don't let anyone else dictate what you're going to do. Live your life for YOU. Do you want to run? Then run. Are you doing it for someone else? Then forget it. Guaranteed, if other runners do see you, all…

I signed up for bootcamp at 5:30 am - gets my *ss out of bed and moving. And while I'm at it, I set the alarm for a half hour earlier - it lets me fold that extra load of laundry or get the dishwasher going while I'm out at the gym. Make a plan that involves acccountability - it's the only way to get there, work as hard as…

I don't think it affects the way people do their job, however, I think it can make them better at their job. My husband is the CEO of the local YMCA. He was overweight. Did he do his job well? Yes. Then he lost 100 + pounds... suddenly he was activly engaging the members. People felt they could be honest about their issues…

I want to be able to do the Tough Mudder with my husband next year and have him be like "Yep, I'm married to HER!" I've also never worn a bikini, I've always been too self conscious. It would be nice to change that.

I remember after having my first child my husband looked at me one day and said "You look like your mother." I knew it was time to do something. It took five years later for me to actually act on it, and once again it was my husband. When complaining that I didn't have time to work out, he called my bluff and told me it…
