  • I'm on 1200 cals a day, and manage to eat really well. I usually have at least on salad a day (100 cal, with dressing), as well as two servings of meat, at least 5 of vegetables (I count popcorn as a veg, since it's just corn in a different form), and at least 4 of grains (rice goes in almost every dinner). By the time I…
  • Usually I take two one a day vitamins. I figure the worst that can happen is that the excess will get flushed, and they are cheaper than buying foods with those specific nutrients.
  • Oh, and as a bonus, my senior paper in high school was on the difference in writing styles and "voice" between fantasy and science fiction. Add Asimov and Heinlein and HG Wells to my list of favorites too :P Oh, and Bradbury, really the list is endless.
  • Berserker Series by Saberhagen (also read the sword series) Fantasy, umm, wow, that's a lot to choose from. Lord of the Rings, truly epic in the original sense Song of Ice and Fire, awesome series Magician series, and really anything by Feist The first three series by Eddings Chronicles of Narnia (the "first" book is the…
  • White and Nerdy - Weird Al Stupid nerd thread...
  • Ditto. If you can't put it into a pivot table, it's not real data.
  • Yep, my rig has an i7, single vid card, and only 1.5 TB of memory. I think I'm packing 8 gig RAM, but anything more would require a serious overhaul, which I don't have money for. The SSDs just didn't have enough space for all the hak packs that I have to have to continue to play NWN, and I can't give up my 40th level…
  • The show "you are what you eat" does in the UK. Huge caloric drops and lifestyle changes in diet and exercise are probably closer to what we are doing than a pop culture contest.
  • Oh, show of hands for people who have seen Manos, Hands of Fate without MST3K voiceover. Or the original Plan 9 from Outer Space.
  • Any your avatar is an Adipose creature for Dr. Who...awesome Someone mentioned a lack of a cow level on D3...say it ain't so, please? The cow level was the best part of D2 Oh, and anyone that wants a cheap Diablo fix should try torchlight on steam. And torchlight 2. Anyone in the Seattle area into PnP? Don't care what…
  • I'm hoping you are talking Fallout. I always preferred the Brotherhood. They made me feel like a paladin, old school.
  • You can add me. I sometimes even say encouraging things...but not often
  • Well, my wife looked at some of them and was not impressed. Women are just confusing.
  • There's people that haven't read that? I mean, I know one, maybe two, but really? I could list the geek books I've read, but there is a character limit on posts. But I do build my own computers
  • Wow, I am so not gonna win that one either...
  • I'm always shocked at how big a difference 25 lbs can make on a person. Great job.
  • I'm 6'3". I don't fit much of anywhere. but I can reach the top shelf :D

  • My son has this pattern. He bulks up, a lot, like a good 10 to 15 lbs. Then, he grows. Like a weed. This happens about once every 3-6 months. He'll be pudgy, bordering on fat, and then he'll be anorexically thin and his pants will be too short. Unless he is packing on severe weight, like well outside the norm for his age,…
  • The only time this hurts people is when someone fakes results, and then acts like a guru as to the "right" way to lose weight, giving people bad advice. That's why I always recommend people speak to a dietitian before doing anything extreme with their food intake, weight, or exercise regime.
  • From the research that I have done, most doctors say to stay active, eat no less than 1200 calories if you are a man and no less than 1050 if you are a woman (this does not account for size, weight, pregnancy, etc). That being said, the simple answer is ask a doctor before doing anything extreme. If you know a dietitian,…
  • I don't do beer much, but I'm not getting in that fight, because it doesn't effect me at all. I do what works for me. Period. I still love it when people argue with results, though... As for me, when I know I'll be drinking, I save up calories, or even hit the gym extra hard to make room for them. There's 7 cal in a gram…
  • My solution is "hair of the dog". I'll go and work those same muscles, very lightly, to loosen them up. Stretching helps as well. If it continues, it's likely that you overdid it and need some extra time to heal. And like another post said, water. Or if you are a guy, walk it off
  • You've only been changing your diet for six weeks as well. Remember, about 3500 calories goes into a pound of fat. so if you did the math, I'd expect that your increased diet is less than your BMR + 500 cal a day. Even if you were expecting as low as one pound loss per week, that's still 1000 extra calories a day that you…
  • What I used to do was sit. I was a Buddhist for a while, and they teach you how to sit and meditate on, well, nothing. It clears your mind so that, as things come up, you can handle them one at a time. Now I go to the gym and work out until I'm too tired to stress. That usually works well enough
  • Oh, that's my other one. Vanilla perfume. Makes me want ice cream, not sex.
  • My son referred to me as fat. He's only 7, so it was sort of a wake up call for me. Now he comments on how thin I am.
  • Just remember to come up for air once in a while. Or learn to breath through your nose...
  • I was a fat teenager with long hair that could somehow hide in the middle of nowhere without even trying. I once got sat on by a girl because she didn't see me. I was a huge invisible kid. I'm way thinner now, I don't wear a bulky jacket everywhere, and people can see my face
  • Most guys take directions well enough. I mean, we're talking alien territory for us :P
  • Yeah, testosterone spike, and higher energy level, and the fact that you are making up for lost time when you didn't have the energy to do much of anything.
