  • Tried it once, didn't like it, back to Activia.
  • I quit alcohol a few years ago when I became ill and had to take meds that don't go with alcohol. This has been a handy excuse in social situations and no one has given me grief about it. Truth is, I couldn't hold my liquor. One drink could put me under the fable. But even a small amount of alcohol made me feel awful the…
  • How much dairy are you consuming? How about healthy fats? You need both and they have calories. Also, unless you have allergies, a small amount of nuts and seeds add calories plus provide good nutrition.
  • What kind of sugar? Ok to give up cake, pies, cookies and other processed foods. But don't give up foods that have sugar naturally such as fruit or milk.
  • Just my opinion: It's not so much the bread, pasta and so on...It's the accompaniment. For example, a reasonable portion of pasta won't make you fat, but if you slather on the Alfredo sauce and pile on the parmesan, then you have a high-calorie, high-fat dish.
  • Don't compare yourself with others. Don't fret because someone else is losing faster than you. Don't be concerned about that buff chick at the gym who can run on the treadmill while you are walking. And if you're going to watch the Biggest Loser, remember that these programs aren't realistic.
  • I lost weight through several different versions of Weight Watchers. Every plan, including the latest version, worked for me. However, I think WW went wrong when it designated most fruit as zero points. I believe the idea was to encourage people to turn away from our usual snacks (including those 100 calorie packs) and eat…
  • Films, save your money. The only sure and safe way to lose weight is diet and exercise. The other stuff is either a sham or dangerous, or both.
  • I usually spend the holidays at my brother's and SIL, but since no one called, I guess they won't be hosting dinner. So I baked flounder in salsa with garlic mashed potatoes, a vegetable medley of carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, with pineapple chunks for dessert. I really don't like ham, so this meal was perfect.
  • 2 slices 35 calorie bread toasted 1 egg beaten or equivalent egg substitute 1 slice swiss or sharp cheddar Once the egg is cooked and the bread is toasted, assemble the sandwich and microwave 10-15 seconds to melt the cheese Pair with fruit and voila...breakfast.
  • Chili. The beans and meat have the iron and the tomatoes/tomato sauce contain Vitamin C to help with absorption.

  • Why is everyone in such a hurry to lose weight? Why do people feel the need to jump start their weight loss? We live in a society today that demands instant satisfaction. We need to learn to relax and let nature take its course. There is a saying: Rome wasn't built in a day. Safe, lasting weight loss isn't going to happen…
  • Seems like every other week, there is a study done on coffee drinking. One week, a study might say coffee is bad for you, but the next study will say coffee is good for you. Personally, I don't think scientists really know. If you like it, drink it. Stop worrying about every media-induced scare.
  • It might be what you're eating. Can we look at your diary?

  • When I drank, I wanted to eat the legs off the dining room table. Alcohol made me want to eat like a pig. Health issues and resulting medications forced me to give up alcohol. I don't miss it.
  • Natalie, you say you are doing well with your weight miss. So why tamper with success? Really, there are no shortcuts in weight loss. Just keep on doing what you're doing and you will see lasting results.
  • Dr. Oz promotes a lot of dubious products on his show. Save your money and do what works -- eat right and exercise.
  • Don't compare yourself with anyone else. Your friend might even be losing too fast, and that's not healthy. If you lose a pound or two a week, that's safe weight loss. Additionally, your diet is sparse not just in calories, but also in nutrition. Looks like you aren't eating from all the basic food groups. For example, I…
  • A friend of mine found low sodium broth packets available on Amazon.com. About drinking water: it helps to flush excess sodium, but don't expect to eat, say, 3000 mg. of sodium in a day and then expect to get rid of all of it by drinking huge amounts of water. Water can do only so much. You should still strive to keep your…
  • Having my heart stop and being clinically dead back in 2008. Don't want to do that again for a long time.
  • I'm of the opinion that almost any restaurant can be reasonably healthy. It's not the restaurant, but rather the choices you make and how much you eat. When I travel, I deliberately look for non-chain restaurants. I figure if I want to go to Applebees, I can do that home. In the process I've found some great local…

  • Eggs are not the demons they once were. In my grandparents'day, eggs were forbidden if you had heart disease or risk factors for heart disease. When my Dad had his first heart attack about 20+ years ago, he was surprised that the hospital offered him eggs for breakfast. His cardiologist indicated that the chicken feed has…

  • Loved their sweet potato chips...until I found out they have 11 grams of fat per serving. SIGH! The best stuff is always not good for me.
  • Noticed that on some days you go way over your sodium limit. Try to keep your max at 2500 mg. at least. I'm fact, it might help to reduce your sodium even further. Talk to your doctor about what your max should be.
  • When you read labels, don't just read the front label wherr it might say "Reduced Sodium," "No Salt Added" and the like. Turn the packaging around and read the nutrition label. Items with lower sodium and no salt added could still have too much sodium. And foods with sea salt are not necessarily low in sodium.
  • Those meals may seem like a bargain, particularly when they are on sale or you have a coupon. But if you really do the math, they are overall more expensive than making your own. As was suggested, you can make your own in large batches, divide the meals into individual servings, and store each serving in individual…
  • Once, at a hotel gym, a woman got on the treadmill next to me, looked over at my 2 mph setting and sneered. She set hers to at least twice that number and started jogging/running. However, after about 10 minutes she was almost dying. That was it for her. She had to stop. She glared at me for still going on while she was…
  • Not meant to scare. Just meant to keep you safe. If you practice good safety procedures, you can avoid harm. I'd like to see you stay around for awhile.
