  • Height = 5'1 Age & Gender = 32, F Current weight = 114.5 Goal weight = 112.5 Base Calories = 1200 Everyday, I automatically add 400 calories to my base for breastfeeding, and exercise to get over 1800 calories a day. I usuallyget between 2000 and 2400 calories a day with exercise, and you better believe I eat nearly every…
  • If it's a calcium thing (which I am always low on - it's one of the things I track, and I do take a prenatal vitamin for because I'm a nursing mom, but ran out this past week - !!!), I think I'll drink a glass of milk today instead of the yogurt. Normally I love yogurt, but I think I ODed on it.
  • Thanks for all the input. I wouldn't call my workout high intensity, and don't feel sluggish, but maybe I'll try 1/2 banana and buckets of water rather than the cup of coffee I usually have before a jog. I figure I won't know how much energy I'm missing until I try! I'll definitely try to eat soon afterwards, though,to…
  • Quitting was hard, but you already know that. I just wanted to tell you that the weight gain is not inevitable. Cigarettes both rev your metabolism and also quell hunger, so you WILL have more munchies and you may be burning even up to 200 less calories a day after you quit (can't find the science to back that up, tho), so…
  • Thanks guys... I appreciate the motivational words. I have a plan for the rest of the night. I'm going home in 8 minutes. I'm going to poach 2 eggs and have them on a sandwich thin along with a carrot and some steamed broccoli. That'll be the replacement dinner. Then for my last night snack, I'm going to have 1/2 cup…

  • My gorgeous sister in law is 5'7 or 5'8, easily 110 lbs, and after 2 beautiful babies, even she has a small belly pooch... I think it's one of those genetic inevitabilities... I have a belly too, but I also weigh more than she does and am a full 1/2 foot shorter! :D

  • I think this is what the poster who said alcohol is just about the fattest thing you can ingest meant: http://www.thefactsaboutfitness.com/research/alcohol.htm Not that it itself is fatty, but that your body pretty much converts it to fat, no questions asked!
  • I'm 5'1 and my goal is 112, which is just above my prepregnancy weight of 111. I've been 102 and looked (IMO) totally fabulous, but it's not maintainable for me. I maintain quite easily at around 110-112 on my medium frame.
  • Good for you for your honesty!! Every time I balk at putting something in my calorie count because I know I'm going to go over for the day, or am embarrassed because yes, I really did eat 1.5 cups of ice cream, I remind myself that the only person I'm lying to and trying to deceive is myself - the only person I'm letting…
  • You look very healthy to me. I know that with expanding waistlines becoming the norm, along with too-skinny actresses and models in the media, our general image of what is a healthy weight is really skewed. There is an interesting flicker page that shows women (and a few men) at various BMIs, and it is amazing to see what…
  • I agree with this... I know I had tons of people tell me how fantastic I looked a few years ago after I lost about 20-25 lbs, and I think because of the way I lost it (I was having really bad issues in my life - the weight loss was not deliberate, but was welcome after I got my life back together), and I remember thinking…
  • Hope you don't mind me adding my own question to yours, as they are related.... I'm wondering whether drinking more water makes you hold onto less water weight or if the opposite is true?
  • I did that last weekend. Monday morning, I had gained 3 lbs! I got back on track on Monday and by Tuesday was only up 1.5 lbs. By Wednesday, I was only up 1 lb. By Thursday, I was back to my pre-weekend weight, and by Saturday, I was down 2 more lbs! Of course, that was also a "fake" weight, and I was back up those 2 on…
  • I'm a ball cap kinda girl, which seems to work great and holds my hair back at the same time!
  • For exercise, I do a TON of yard work (lucky to have a big yard, tho) while she naps. There is definitely very little time for things like running or going to a gym, since when my hubby gets home from work, it's family time, then dinner time, then baby bed time, and before you know it, mommy bed time! Maybe invest a few…
  • Congrats on sticking to your calorie count in this situation! This actually reminds me that I almost always eat before going over to a friend's house for a kid's play date because it's really easy then to say "I just ate" when my friend might start pulling things out for snacks or lunch. Then I know I'm good to go for a…
  • I just add mine as an exercise. I just added my own exercise under the tab. I just always put it in as 30 minutes = 400 calories, which makes no real sense, since nursing takes alot longer than 30 minutes, but it gets me my 30 minutes a day of exercise (I always do alot more than that, tho). I did 400 to be on the safe…
  • On the cottage cheese note, I like it with chipotle tabasco.
  • I guess the body works on a 24 hour cycle in some ways, but I have days where I go over my calories, and I have days where I'm under. Lately, I find myself practically stuffing my face some days just to make the calories, and I'm really starting to think that's dumb, because there are other days that I'm starving all day…
  • Oooh - good idea about chips and salsa. But I'll put them in the beer/wine area, so I forget about them (I don't drink) and don't end up standing over the tortilla chip bowl and munching! Oh - edited to say that it's my daughter's 1st birthday, so most of the people there are going to be adults, hence, the beer and wine...…
  • I eat almost everything I love, but not in the same way I used to. For instance, I eat ice cream every day. Sometimes even a cup of ice cream with whipped cream, peanut butter and chocolate. But I make myself earn it first through exercise. However, I don't eat chips anymore because I know I won't really enjoy the measly…
  • It's the same as losing any other weight! That's what I'm doing here, too. However, if you're breastfeeding, be careful to get all the calories you need to support your milk supply.
  • Once you feel comfortable with your willpower, you'll go along with them and just not eat. I have a friend who always says to me - lets go for coffee! A totally benign thing, right? Well, for me, it always has been - I just get a coffee or tea - straight - no milk, no sugar. Or a skinny latte, no sugar. I go for the…
  • Great post! I've lost human skin - ewww! But wanted to also say that about 6 years ago, I weighed 130 lbs, which was getting up there for my height. The other day, I carried my 16 lb baby on my back for a 40 minute walk, bringing my total weight again, up to 130 lbs, and WOW, I can't believe I used to lug that much extra…
  • You look so strong! I love how you're holding the cake in the first picture, but holding the floatie thing in the last one like a lifeguard - shows more than a body change - a whole lifestyle change! I'm very impressed! :)
  • I find that I need 1600 calories a day, and would never feel full on 1200 or less unless I was sick. I exercise to get myself over 1800 calories every day because I need them so badly to feel good. However, I can understand how it feels to be surprisingly full on little calories. I'm often shocked about how few calories I…
  • I'm a Clinique girl, but everyone has their favs. Go to a nice counter at a department store and tell them you need help. They'll make you over for free to sell you product. I buy all my foundation, concealers, and powders at the Clinique counter, but to save money, I get my colors elsewhere. It's really fun - and this is…
  • A day IS a big deal! It's the start of a new pattern. Each subsequent day you fight the urge to smoke is a day you get closer to being totally free of nicotine and it's emotional attachment. I quit October 2008, and I rarely think about it now. Helps that ALL public places are smoke-free. I'll get the urge for a smoke…
  • I know you're not happy having gained the 15-20 lbs, but you are much healthier now than you were as a smoker - extra weight and all. Congratulations on quitting! I quit October 2008. I think it's fantastic that you're going to work on the weight now, too. Seems like the right time - you've given yourself the chance to be…
  • Thanks! I like to think I worked hard, but I don't want to count calories that I didn't earn... I put it as hiking, knowing that I do lots of other stuff that I don't count in my day's energy expenditure, so somewhere, it must be evening out!
