All the devices, including HR monitors, Fitbits, and so on work. I thought they were pretty cool at first, then decided I didn't want another device in my life.

Gym machines such as elipticals and treadmills and such are calibrated (in general) for 170-180 pound people, so base the numbers accordingly. I use about 50-80% of MFP's suggestion on calorie expenditures for activities and exercise. This is based on cross referencing to other databases. I find in general, MFP to be on…

Going from on a mission to mission accomplished can definitely be a psychological adjustment. When I got to goal weight, it was like Now What? Adjusted my MFP to "maintenance" and proceeded to gain weight. So adjusted it back to some slow weight loss level. On average for the past 6 months, I have been 7 or 8 pounds over…

Dear 16 year old me, Stop sweating that you will be drafted and have to go to Vietnam. The war will be over soon. Take just half the money you will spend on beer over the next 42 years and buy gold and you won't be still working unless you want to.

The gym doesn't require much thinking, just work. So I don't think much there and focus on the work. That pretty much eliminates judging other people for whatever reason they may be there.

Way to go girl and congrats again on the Superbowl a pretty cool thing for a fan. Trust me I am a Saints fan.

This seems a pretty popular thread. If someone benefits from posting pictures it seems a good thing to do for them. That is the point. It's good for them. It doesn't matter if it's good for anyone else. Shame is not one of the seven sins, but gluttony is. If someone takes the time to share their consideration and effort, I…

Funny enough I looked at that later. Looking your age is a good thing.

If you don't like the MFP settings use your own custom settings.

.7- 1 g per day of LBM (lean body mass) LBM= Weight minus body fat

Lose the legumes. See how it goes. Take it one step at a time, eliminating suspicious contributors.

Plain greek no fat no sugar yogurt. Add in your fruits of choice. I use fresh blueberries, strawberries and raspberries in season and frozen when not. You get sugar in the fruit of course but lots of other benefits. Protein, fiber, great taste, all good.

.7 to 1 gram of protein per lb of lean body mass. Seems you don't need 135g daily on average

Wow. check wikipedia on that one and you should not rush out to buy it any time soon.

Omron Fat Loss Monitor. Accurate enough to show loss or gain over time. Internet, $30. Worth it if that is one of your goals and you want to track progress.

When I go to nursing homes and senior care villages I am considered hot. It's awesome.

I use the MFP calorie number for circuit training, as my lifting is continuous as if it would be a circuit. Take the number of minutes, say 30, and cut it in half, and use that calorie number. Works for me over the years. If I burn a little more or less, no big deal. Good luck in your journey and stay with it.

Primal/paleo is like it says. Neolithic brownies? Neanderthal apple pie? Probably not. It's a lifestyle change that works for some. Worked for me. Is better not to be for or against any particular nutritional strategy until you personally understand what works for you. Go Team.

The chia seeds don't care if they are soaked or not because after you eat them they will do their thing. If you put them in some other liquid they will thicken it depending on how long you wait to consume it. There is no nutritional difference in soaking or not soaking chia seeds. But they are good for you, that's for sure.

Atkins seems too extreme, but go for it if you would like. I am a fan of lower carbs in the diet. It helped me to get to goal weight and has helped me to maintain it for sometime. I try to have 150g a day of net carbs. Don't always accomplish that and sometimes am lower. In the end it's about calories in and out. But,…

We are all continuously challenged by the healthy/unhealthy question of weight v. some standard. What is clearly not true is that people that are 25BMI are unhealthy based on their weight alone. What is clearly not true is that people that are BMI 18 are healthy on their weight alone. That being said there may be benefits…

:You joined in February. It's March. You lost 15 lbs. That's pretty good. Stay the course. Reality shows are anything but real.

Hello, Concur with other posters. Good advice. Carbs are quite low and you likely are burning muscle instead of repairing it. Just a hunch. I am a lower carb advocate and used that strategy as well. I didn't stop losing weight until I set MFP to maintenance. Keep in mind your lighter fitter self is not burning as many…

Yes folks it is not about one day. Losing and maintaining is about a lifetime. If you want to lose weight for a day, schedule a colonoscopy. Otherwise, stick with the program. Drawing outside the lines is allowed, encouraged provided you come back to your program that works for you.

Lest this not be a waste of cyberspace, for the OP, I use <35g SUGAR daily. Carbs use 150g net. Sugar is a part of that 150 number. The Net carb number is Total Carbs (which includes sugars) less fiber. As some have mentioned in between rants, a little more here and a little less there is nothing to stress about. It's not…

Not sure how long you have been moving your carb macro down and of course fats and protein up but changing insulin sensitivity does take some time. Higher levels of satiety can be accomplished by eating nutrient dense foods. When I made this change I increased lower glycemic fruits (at least they are good carbs that fill…
