Caloric intake reduction, but nothing severe. Ample increase in cardio, but again, nothing strenuous, mostly walking. Diet modifications, carbs way down, protein up, fruits and vegetables up. Strength training, 5 days a week during active weight loss time. Supplements, although they have little to do with weight loss.…

Average "sale" price at various outlets for the individual serving is $1 each. Good value for money and great breakfast. Mix it with your favorite fruits and so on.

Great header and great story. Thought this was going to be about beer for sure. Certainly looks like you have earned at least a six pack of either variety. Congrats.

I can't find the damned microwave. Where did it go? It was there last year.

If I am still hungry, sure why not? But there is no right or wrong on that. But certainly it seems likely that following this rule you have made for yourself, you will not have digestion to blame for insomnia. If you sleep well and you don't wake up in the middle of the night hungry, stick with what works for you. Your…

Try upping the omega 3's and reducing the omega 6's. I don't know why uric acid is up, but if there is any way to eliminate the condition without Big Pharma, please seek it out. Gout appears to be another system inflammation. Anything you can do with your diet to reduce inflammation should surely help. Good luck and get…

As a father of 4 sons about your age and a bit older I find it truly bizarre that your family at large have taken such a strong position with you. They need therapy, you don't. You will be fine. Not so sure about them.

Forget the history. It doesn't matter. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. What are your goals now relative to fitness and nutrition? Weight is just one byproduct of all that, just one measure.

First safety, to joints and various other body parts. Sounds like you have that one covered. That's good. Complaining about the absence of pain is a little different. Ah, the good old days. Perhaps you are not meaning that, but just the burn that immediately precedes failure, when you can't lift any more reps? If you do…

When all your Google ads are fitness and nutrition related. They have given up on bothering you with anything else.

This is a bit wrong. Replacing 20 pounds of fat with 20 pounds of muscle results in a significant gain in calories burned daily, ie metabolic rate. It is debatable how many exactly based on body weight, but the generally accepted formula is about a 15:1 ratio. So if you trade off 20 pound of muscle for 20 pounds of fat,…

I use circuit training caloric values on MFP for the time I lift weights and reduce it by 50%. Seems to work for me. Credit for the training calories and not overdoing the presumed burn.

Bottom line- controversy is good for the site. Encourages discussion, discourse and disagreement. More people see the ads and participate. All good. People that get hurt feelings might need to adjust the value they place on the supposed offending random stranger on the internet.

Would I play in a PGA Tour event knowing I would not qualify? You betcha. My name would be at the bottom of the column. But it would be there.

Ground flaxseed is available in most grocery stores. There are some differences between various brands but it is not very significant. One has a few more calories, a bit higher omega 3 and so on. Not likely you will "overdo" omega 3 intake unless you have absolutely no omega 6 intake. I take fish oil and flax daily. I mix…

1/ Substitute some running for strength training. If you have time, keep running or doing some cardio and do the weights as well. But do the weights 3 x a week or so. 2/You will need to change out some carb calories for protein. If you are not too fond of meat, eat fish. If you don't like fish, go the protein shake route.…

Don't suggest taking ancient any supplement. If the oil is old it is bad and it will do the exact opposite of the result you are expecting.

You guys are way too young to have chronic joint problems (unless there has been injury involved) Check this out below. Hope it can work for you also. http://nutrition.about.com/od/dietsformedicaldisorders/a/antiinflamfood.htm While it may not solve all problems, it certainly won't be harmful.

Fish oil 1000 mg, Magnesium 200 mg, B complex. A protein/fiber drink most days. The rest is in the food and regular outdoor exercise. I suppose Flaxseed, wheat germ, and Chia seeds could be considered supplements, but they are a food I eat daily. Whey protein mixed with almond milk when I have a low protein day from time…

Have to decide which is more important to you, losing the fat or increasing the muscle. Doing both together at that level of detail is not impossible, but physiologically very difficult. Most recommend dropping the body fat first. You can not spot specific lose body fat. Either it all comes off or none of it. There are…

The scale is but one measure. The others are just as important, such as your inches, clothes fitting and how you feel. How better prepared are you for the rest of your life because of the success you have had and will continue to have? Your HDL is up, your LDL is down (perhaps). How cool is that? These are just a small…

Doctor says, "your cholesterol is a little high" and he had recently lost 20 pounds. Figure if he can do it with his schedule I certainly have no excuse. Lost 35 lbs in 6 months and all the important numbers are now in line. Most exciting is feeling a lot younger. Now weigh in at what I did when I was 20 something. It is…

All the charts compare amount of safe alcohol intake (presumably to drive later) per hour for X hours based on body weight. So it seems safe to say that the science of the matter is if you weigh more (no breakdown of fat v. lean body mass) you can drink more alcohol than if you weigh less. Clearly there are other factors…

Pound of muscle burns 32 cals per day. Pound of fat burns 2 per day. Pick the one you would rather have.

If given a choice, I would much rather have more time than more money. However, since time is not available for purchase, all of this basically gets down to what you keep, not what you make, once basic needs are met. Can't comment on the Aussie tax systems, but it sounds very close to the US. In 2013, if there are not…
