I feel you - it is winter in New Zealand and I have had a bad cold - no energy and cold all the time - I was looking for motivation and got sidetracked by a nutritionist/ personal trainer I rewarded myself with who rubbished all the things I had got support from before (including MFP) and now I'm in the wilderness and…

I don't have any scientific qualifications but I don't usually have anything heavy to eat within about 2 hours of bedtime as I understand that the digestion is poorer if we are horizontal. Also, when we go to sleep doesn't digestion slow down and become less efficient? As far as the calories go, I don't think it makes any…

I have some Salter scales I got on GrabOne but since I moved house they are really erratic - my weight shows about 3kg heavier than at the last house and the weight swings all over the place on the same day - it has been a hot summer and I have been retaining a lot of water

Hi I've checked out your diary and want to ask if you have set your macro goals to their current level? Carbs seem to be set around 55% Protein around 15% Fat around 30% The protein seems really low in comparison to the carbohydrate - I find that I work better with about 25-30% protein and 45% or less carbs. Possibly the…

We (mammals) regulate our body temperature by sweating, usually this evaporates but when it doesn't our skin feels wet and clammy - I notice I sweat on my chest, under my bra, my back, face, armpits and so on. When you have worked out and these areas have been doing their job by sweating (whether you can feel dampness on…

Hi I still eat a balanced diet but I have found that salt is a killer for me and I need to keep it down to less than 2500 a day (that is only 2.5grams) - it seems to cause my weight to fluctuate due to water retention. Read food labels as you will find that common 'student' foods such as noodles, soup (powdered and…

and when you politely point out to someone who regularly eats like this: intake 1200 less cardio 800 = net 400 - please eat something you get flamed on the Boards that you're a panic merchant and don't know what you're talking about - I actually got told I was 'too big' to understand how to have a regime like the above and…

Quite a few years ago I lost 5 stone (70lb) in 6 months - I split up from my husband and was quite stressed - a major life change and started swimming in the afternoons waiting to pick up my daughter after school. I was swimming 50 lengths about 3 times a week and it was almost like I became anorexic but the lack of eating…

Definitely do weighttraining - I am down to 240 from 279 and noticed a big difference across my shoulders from doing lots of lat pulldowns, shoulder presses and chest presses. Although I don't have a lot of excess skin I could tell that my body was firming up and the skin starting to 'spring' back

I make what I call 'frittata' or 'Microwave Eggs - takes 2 mins max in the microwave! I lightly beat: (I use a round shallow plastic dish - sides are about 1 and a half to 2 inches high) 2 whole eggs (or 1 egg and 2-3 whites) with a 1-2 tablespoons milk or water and season Then I add whatever vegies are in the fridge…

To Greeneyes191, eating a good choice of snack (nuts, lean meat such as chicken, protein snack or shake) between meals so that you never go more than 3 hours during the day without eating, seems to work for me. This seems to be generally advised for weight loss, particularly if the person is working out a lot as well.

Hi I am 240 lbs (111 kg) and use a Suunto M4 HRM with a chest strap (don't notice I'm wearing it). Whilst I walk I also use Endomondo for distance and my Fitbit for steps (I set the timer so calories are not counted twice). My HRM gives me my average heartrate and my peak heartrate and I usually try and get an average…

I'm 5ft 3 in and my first goal is 155lbs, once I get there I will review as I was 114lbs when I was 18. Looking at body simulators, 114 looks way too small!

Please don't pull back your calories - weight gain is common at the beginning of an intense exercise plan that involves muscle development. It is caused by the body retaining water, in the process of inflammation, to repair microscopic muscle tears in order to cope with the increased activity. This is the necessary process…

A huge achievement! - 1600 cals was pretty low for your stats - I am 5ft 2 and 247 pounds and I lose on 1600 plus eating exercise calories - glad to see you upped to 2000 cals and continued to lose pounds Very very well done - enjoy your break and I hope all goes well for you

I either sear it off on a griddle and finish it in the oven (transfer the griddle from the stovetop to the oven shelf) or put it into a special ziplock microwave bag for 1-2 mins and it comes out beautifully steamed and juicy!

This is a great posting! I am 59 years old and finally after 30 years seeing the weight go down consistently I am 5ft 2inches tall and weigh just less than 250lbs (111.5kg) I have lost 16kg since September 2011 and have just stated believing that my weight in my late teens and early 20s may be achieveable again - at my…

If you eat cereal try a mix of a low sugar flake cereal with a wholegrain muesli (low sugar) and add a scoop of protein powder - total is around 400 cals but high protein and low GI - I work afternoons and keeps me going. Same goes for wholegrain porridge with a scoop of protein

I would say go to as many specialist sports shoe stores as you can and be measured - check out the shoes they say are suitable - make a decision when you have tried several different pairs in several different shops. Finally do NOT be scared to take them back after a couple of wears as most good shops will be more than…

I walk several kms in the mornings but never go out without eating first - usually a wholegrain cereal or porridge with a scoop of protein powder up to about 400 cals - if I don't eat and then burn in excess of 400 cals I come back feeling nauseous. My walking is done with a heartrate monitor at around 75-85% of maximum…
