Most people are unhealthy and out of shape! Just pick what you want to achieve and don't worry what others do, I was only giving examples of goals. At the end of the day there is no rule as to what you must achieve, it's purely what you want and how far you're willing to go.
-
Only you can set goals, how far do you want to go? Most generic goal - keep getting stronger. Less generic, but still arbitrary - squat 1x bodyweight, 1.5x, 2x etc... Even less generic - I want to take up powerlifting, weightlifting, (insert any other sport here) and be competitive at local\regional\national\international…

Only you can answer the question as to what you want to achieve. That said, it's not an exclusive relationship, you won't only get hypertrophy or only get strength, its just that by varying training, one will be a lot more predominant. That's the simple version at least, without going into the science of different types of…

I think part of the issue here is the obsession with weight. Unless any of you are planning on taking up weightlifting, boxing, powerlifting, MMA, martial arts etc at a high level and have to stay in your weight class to be competitive, then why worry about it? If you're not in the above categories, then most likely you…

I can see your and Fithealthyforlife's thinking, but this may not be the best way to go about sorting out imbalances. Partly because you only really hit the prime mover, so weakness in stabilising muscles is not corrected, and partly because it doesn't address the "neuro" bit of neuromuscular. Imbalances are just as likely…

This thread is full of lolz! my observation of the general gym attending population, is that most guys spend 99% of their time benching and curling, and avoid squats at all costs, so not surprising there are girls out there putting them to shame!
-
I think you'll struggle to do much with 3kg dumbbells! Realistically you might need anything from 10-100kg depending on how strong you are!
-
Height shouldn't really have much impact on squatting, apart from the making you have to move the bar further. Body proportion is likely to be a bigger issue, but if you don't have perfect proportions for squatting, it's not usually something that can't be overcome with mobility work. If you're ankles and hips are decently…

Ok, so the good news, although the weight in the first video is wayyyyy too light, the pull actually looks alright, just need to be less gentle and more aggressive really. Be really aggressive with the pull, then don't wait to squat, just do it ASAP. It might even feel like you're squatting in mid air, and then land in a…

A bit late, but some good info here - http://www.allthingsgym.com/2013ewc/

Front squats will work your back a lot more, as you need to stay upright, or you'll dump the bar. If you have big enough shoulder, and are strong enough to keep them elevated, you can keep the bar decently far away from your windpipe. Although the concept of the PVC pipe is good, I think it's good to use some weight,…

You can be as serious or as relaxed about it as you like. You don't need to go for Olympic gold, but having competitions makes the setting of PBs and trying to beat your previous competition lifts all the more fun.

Is this the moment where I pull out all the stops with my spiel and drag you into the world of competitive weightlifting?
-
If you ask a weightlifter (me), no, if you ask a powerlifter, they will probably say yes. Low bar powerlifting style, I'm not all that up on, high bar olympic style, which it sounds like you're doing, the best thing I can say is that it helps to develop your traps a bit, so you have some muscular padding for the bar to sit…

I know I'm crashing this party, being the wrong gender and all, but where do you rest the bar?
-
For full disclosure, they do compete at weightlifting. They've also been training a while, if you keep it up, and want it enough, you'll be right there too.
-
Impressive is relative, I think if it was more than you did x long ago, it's all good. If you want an absolute number, I know a couple of women that can put up 120kg (approx 265lbs) at a bodyweight of ~60kg (~133lbs). Also, so many guys only worry about upper body, that as soon as you get to a moderately decent squat, they…

Worth noting that about 30% of the population don't respond to creatine, and of those who do respond, I can't remember the figures, but it's split roughly in half between a small response and a much more noticeable response. That said, it's so cheap, it's worth trying to see whether you are a responder or not.

For a laugh, I once took a tin to the US, as my friends had never heard of this. The customs officer saw it, and asked if it contained meat!

Having spent a lot of time in both countries, and having family in both countries, I would actually say that we're very different cultures, that just happen to have a (slightly) common language. I find it very strange that people think the cultures will be similar, just because the language is the same, as it's an odd…

Facts are rubbish though. However, as I weigh nearly 100kg, I'm going to have to start travelling in a mankini to minimise any additional weight. Hope my fellow travellers don't mind!

Then again, apparently the superbowl is one of the most viewed events on the planet, so obviously loads of guys wearing tights and running around is quite popular!

I don't want to spoil the controversy but this is a small airline that operates Britten-Norman islanders and Cessna 172 aircraft, which have capacities of 9 and 3 respectively. In a 3 passenger aircraft if 1 person is overweight, unless at least one of the others is underweight, the plane will exceed capacity. In a big…

lol, like you haven't already saved that picture and all my videos!

Normal for weightlifters too, due to the bar having to travel so close to the legs in the pull for the snatch and the clean. 90% of the time I train, I will be wearing tights, compression shorts or a weightlifting suit with a t-shirt over it - which effectively then looks like compression shorts.
-
To put that in perspective - http://youtu.be/Nj8UF0j2kYM?t=9s Also check out the noise of the female lifter (can't think of her name off the top of my head) before Oleg, that can only help!

I have nothing sensible to add, but there is a holiday centre there called Sandy Balls, which never fails to make me laugh.

I told you I'd reply at some point! The ones you catch actually look pretty decent for high hang power cleans. It looks like you could clean way more weight. I would keep up what you're doing, and get stronger. I would also work on catching the bar lower, the easy way to do this is put more weight on the bar, so you HAVE…

Having seen all the replies, in all seriousness, what is a guy supposed to do in this situation? If he genuinely finds his partner unattractive due to weight gain? A relationship is a 2 way thing, why is it OK for him to be unhappy, but not OK for his partner to be unhappy if he tells her truly how he feels? I have a…

Isn't that a bit selfish, especially as they're both still young and not even married? If YOU choose not to have kids, surely YOU get sterilised, and if HE chooses not to have kids, HE gets sterilised.
