I need the plan because if I don't have a specific goal, and a specific plan to get there, life is too chaotic and I won't get out there and run on a regular basis. I find excuses, I justify needing more sleep, etc. I need the goal that there is a marathon in X weeks and if I don't follow the plan I won't be successful in…

I have the Polar FT7. Definitely affordable, simple to use, and has all the basic functionality I want.

I am in my 40's but will be in my 50's next year. Been at this since January.

We have Sprint, and upgraded to iPhones last fall and I love it. Phone is much better than the Android piece of garbage I had before, and the service is fine. I would wait for the iPhone 5 at this point, however.

If you aren't hungry while running, then keep with what you are doing. Everyone is different. I don't like to eat before I run, even on my long 20 mile runs. If I eat, I will have bathroom issues during the run. I drink some Gatorade along the way, but that's it.

Congratulations! You are doing great
-
I like that. That could be a great first goal for a lot of people

Walking. Start short and slow, set some goals of increasing your distance over time.
-
I'm running Twin Cities Marathon on October 7th. With a loose definition of running. But I will traverse the course.

I'm not planning on leaving MFP, I've been successful with it and intend to continue using it during maintenance. I just assume that I'll need a slightly different outlook and approach to maintain.
-
Agree that as long as you have the energy, it doesn't matter. Everyone is different. I don't like to eat before, I tend to have bathroom emergencies when I do that. I have friends that always eat first because they have issues eating after and wind up not eating right. Try both, see what works for you

I would not suggest it. It's just not enough. And particularly with Ramadan falling in the summer with the long hot days, I don't think it will be good for you.

The heartrate monitor will generally be more accurate, so I'd go with the FT4. The app is just a generic formula and less accurate.

I weight myself everyday. I want the most information possible about how I'm doing, what works, and what doesn't work. The argument for not weighing yourself every day is that there are so many fluctuations day to day that you can make yourself crazy. My view is that if I'm only weighing once a week, how do a I know if…

I've just followed the MFP daily calories, logged everything I ate, and exercised a lot. Nothing magic, no hidden secrets.
-
I log everything just before I eat it on the iPhone app. I add it, try to make sure it's a good choice, and then eat it. If I add it and don't like how it makes everything look, then I change what I'm going to eat.

I have one. I have no way to know how accurate it is, since I have nothing to compare it to. My assumption is that it's not highly accurate, but good for showing trends. It keeps getting lower as I lose weight, so that's a good thing.

Perfectly said!

Weigh yourself before you start, weigh yourself at the end, the difference is how much water you lost while running. Every pound is 16 oz of water.
-
Awesome! Now you can run Red, White and Boom on July 4th!

Doesn't sound like a good place. I agree with the sentiment that it seems that they are charging you for the privilege of being allowed to purchase their shakes and supplements. I don't like any plan that is dependent on special shakes, supplements, pre-packaged meals, etc. A big piece of long term success is changing our…

Congratulations

Welcome! I've been at this since January, and feel like I've been successful. In my blog I've been listing things I've found to be helpful and productive, as well as things I have found to not help. Feel free to read through it

Welcome. I've been at this since January 1 and have found it to be a very good tool to help manage weight loss. I have a whole list of what I have found that works, and what I have found that hasn't helped, in my blog on here. If you'd like to add me as a friend then you can check it out.

A fantastic and motivating story. Thanks for sharing
-
Congratulations! You'll be increasing toward your goal in no time, and then setting new ones.

Two thoughts: 1) I don't think you are drinking enough water, and that will mess you up 2) I don't know what you are doing for exercise, but a good workout will help move things along. Just about every time I run, it's followed by a good emptying of the bowels.

Congratulations! That is fantastic news

That should be plenty to keep you in shape. You are using all of your muscle groups, and if you are moving for 2 hours a day, you shouldn't need anything else
