  • Thank you for posting your pictures. It is very helpful for older women to see such inspiring pictures of other more mature women. Often whe it is lovely young people posting, whilst they look fabulous it is hard to envisage how an older body will look whe slimmer. It becomes easy to think that the lack of definition is…
  • Just posted on another thread. I am splitting my 2 days as I have non running days when I only swim. I never eat breakfast and skipping lunch will suit me. I intend to consume my cals (500) by eating vegetables and some protein, egg or tofu as I don't eat meat. I shall also consume some as milk in drinks during evening. I…
  • Although I have lost 31lbs by eating 7 days a week, I am now going to switch to fasting 2 and eating 5. My reasons are that I hope for the health benefits, I still have high bollod pressure even though my BMI is now just normal, my eldest brother was diabetic but after following the Newcastle VLCD for 6 weeks reversed the…
  • An excellent achievement, well done you.
  • Well done. You should be very proud of your achievement, 85 lbs is a tremendous amount.
  • I did and thought it was very interesting. It was as we should expect, unsubstantiated claims by the big companies in order to get profit. I felt a bit smug about the drinks and shakes, never having bought any of them thinking they are just sugarey. But, I have been a sucker for expensive running shoes having fallen for…
  • I think you deserve to be happy, and very proud of your achievement. Well done you look fantastic.
  • I am 50 but only 5ft4". My goal weight is 126 lbs which should result in me being a UK size 8, which would be USA 4? However I may adjust up or down whe I get closer, currently 142 so planning to lose 16lbs. You say you have been advised not to lose any more, but not who has given the advice. For me I shall continue to…
  • I found that I was too hungry on 1200. I eat 1500 irrespective of what exercise I have done. I do not eat exercise cals back. This has resulted in me being able to adhere to the diet without breaking it. When I have tried 1000 or 1200 I have cracked. I loose consistently 1lb a week. Although like anyone I would want to…
  • I am 5.4. I eat 1500 a day irrespective of any exercise. I tried 1200 for the first couple of weeks but I was too hungry.I swim 30 mins 6 days a week, run 30 min 3 times and 1 hour once a week. I havent changed my exercise from before dieting. I have lost at a lb a week. I have gone from 172, down to 146. I don't eat…
  • I did Northampton today, it was my first R 4 Life, although not my first 10 k. It was a fantastic experience being a part of something with so many other women. I did 1hr 1 min, which is 6 minutes faster than previous race, however not sure it was the full 6.2, so it doesn't really count as a PBS. I am 12lbs lighter than…
  • I started my first calorie controlled diet 36 years ago! I have lost and regained weight maybe 10 times over the years, each decade weighing more. Last time, 4 years ago I lost 48 lbs without calorie counting, just cutting portions but it took me 2 years to loose and only 18 months to put 28 lbs back on. This time I have…
  • Thank you for posting, you are a real pleasure to look at. In any other context a woman of my age drooling over pictures of a fit young man would be a little seedy. But, because this is about fitness and success, I can be as lascivious as I like. Congratulations on your hard work
  • SW: 172 CW: 146 GW: 126 I started at 1200 a day but was far too hungry so upped to 1500 a day. I haven't changed my exercise but I already swam 6 days a week and ran 3/4 days a week, as well as walking the dog etc. I have lost 1 lb a week and havent binged once in nearly 6 months which is a record for me. Was a regular…
  • Thank you for your generosity in sharing this.
  • It is linked to weight gain, both due to more cals consumed due to emotional eating but also, due to hormones being released. So the stress you are experiencing could be affecting your weight loss. However if it is only one week, it may just be due to normal fluctuation. Hope life improves in all ways for you. Good luck
  • I am 5ft 4. I started at 172 and now weigh 148, but I don't look any where as good as you, I can hardly believe we started out at same weight. Just wish I looked like you now, as you look great. Probably don't because of my age and body shape. You must have a naturally good figure.
  • Yes I do, but like others have said it is important that they are old enough. My whippet/Bedlington does 8 miles easily, it is me that can not do more. One of the best things in my life is running early morning on a beach with her running off the lead, pure bliss. Obviously you need to take water, poop bags, keep on lead…
  • Congratulations on your achievement . You deserve to feel very proud of yourself.
  • I saw a woman running today in a sports bra, it never occurred to me that it might be seen as inappropriate . True I could see a bit of her midriff, all lovely and lean and as she was wearing Capri style tights I could see her calves. Mostly I wondered how she was warm enough when she started as I needed fleece, hat and…
  • I don't believe it is necessary and that their is no reliable evidence to support the cliam. My experience is that drinking that amount of fluid on top of food and other drinks just causes me to urinate excessively . However if it 'works' for other people, and it appears to do so from the posts then they should continue.…
  • I started 2nd January. SW: 172 CW: 149 Total loss 23lbs I have used MFP everyday.. However I eat 1500, I started on 1200 but was too hungry. Congratulations to everyone, whatever size their success has been. Any loss is the right direction.
  • I am 50 next month and have lost 23lbs since NewYear. 4 years ago over a period of 18 months I lost 44 lbs although put 32 back on  So yes it is just as possible after the age of 40 and their is no real evidence, that loosing weight is any harder as we age. What evidence suggests is we become more sedentary. I haven't…
  • As I am using an IPad I can not post a link. However, London marathon has a lot of older runners. One who was retiring from marathon running after the recent London 2012, is 101, in future will only be doing 10k short runs. He only took up marathon running age 89! To think I had been feeling pleased with my 6 miles at age…
  • I am 5 4 and planning on weighing 126 and then when I get there reevaluate. I believe I will need to be at lighter end of BMI in order to achieve healthy waist hip ratio which is a better guide to health for someone who has always been apple shaped.
  • Like everything of yours that I have read, this is a very sensible, well balanced and reasoned article. I firmly believe some of my success this time loosing weight has been due to the more intelligent rational approach that I have employed following the advice you provide on your website. I just wish you had been writing…
  • I run with my dog and I doubt she would be allowed inside a gym.
