  • In my experience, the best thing you can do as a 'beginner' is to just sign up. It forced me into more focused training and no matter how ill prepared I felt at the start line, running across the finish line felt so, so, so great the first time.
  • Here's my question....I had been using Jif Natural Creamy PB and loving it, but wanted to try Better N' Peanut Butter (they had it at our Target) and I can't spready it! Any tips on how to use this stuff? I wanted it on a piece of toast and it tore the bread apart so bad that I had to throw it out and start over.
  • Just have to say, I love all of these comments. Also, everyone is different in their training, but for me before a 5K (the only distance I've ever raced), I like to take a nice, long walk and have a nice, long stretch the day before a race to keep my muscles loose. The last race I ran was a couple of weeks ago at 9am in…
  • I agree with others...I log anything with calories. I don't usually log my black coffee, however, because it's something like 5-10 calories, I don't add anything to it, and I drink it every single day. This may be right or wrong, but it works for me. If you're drinking fruit juice or non-diet soda, you should absolutely be…
  • I'm certainly no expert, but I've been getting into running and read nearly everything I could find about training properly and most of the training regimens and articles recommended something like this. IF you are running 4 times a week, one back to back is fine, but they all recommended cross training other cardio in…
  • I work in Portage, live in Marshall. I'd like local MFP buddies as well. Does anyone work out at Borgess? I belong to a different gym, but have been taking swim classes there for the last couple months and just started bootcamp last night.
  • I grew up active....sports, running around outside, being a kid, BUT my mom was one of those ALWAYS on a diet and exercising and I felt like I should be too (bad message to send to a kid, IMHO). Anyway, I distinctly remember my friends and I rocking out to a Barbie Fitness video. It had a cartoon Barbie leading the class…
  • I googled this yesterday, actually, and found a lot of ideas, but I'd love some more as well. I ran a 5K last weekend and realized my running playlist is a little tired.
  • Any idea how it is as leftovers? I have all of those things on hand and we're always looking for new chicken recipes, but there are only two of us. I'd hate for the rest to go to waste.
  • I like to have a few around for days when we haven't been grocery shopping in awhile or I'm running late, but in general, everyone is right. You can get much better nutrition (and way less sodium) by eating other things. The convenience factor can definitely outweigh that at times though, that's for sure.
  • I usually go to the gym around 5am and eat a little something as soon as I get home and then a more full breakfast on my way or at work. This morning, however, I woke up starving, so I had a piece of toast before. I can't work out with a full stomach, but I was afraid I'd pass out with as much as my stomach was growling.…
  • I think the best thing to do is to try to find a place near you where you can get professionally fitted for a sports bra. It can be pricy, but once I was actually fitted (34FF, yikes), I was able to exercise so much more comfortably and take up a run/walk program. It's hard to exercise when you know you'll be in pain in…
