  • Absolutely. I've never ran in my life, either recreational or competitive, until this year. Next month I'm going to run in my first ever race, a 10K. I'm not in it to win, I couldn't care less if I'm dead last, I'm just going to try & reach my goal of finishing it in less than 45 minutes.
  • I suffered for 5-6 years with plantar fasciitis & the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to find a doctor that is certified in Active Release Therapy (ART). It was so bad for me even after multiple cortisone shots in the heel (not fun) & custom orthotics (they do help & are better than the Dr. Schools versions), I…
  • Join the group Fitbit Users. Therein lies the answers you seek.
  • I chew Wrigley's Extra peppermint gum. The flavor lasts over an hour before it gets gross. Or you could run through some lawns as they're being watered.
  • I can't really help you on the sports bra issue, but with the running, I can tell you what works for me. Last fall, I finally got my sleep apnea & my plantar faciitis under control & I started running this year. I didn't use any apps, I just started out using intervals. Make sure you get warmed up good, then jog for as…

  • The proper pair of shoes makes a huge difference, and I'd recommend a pair of orthotic inserts. They can be a little pricey, but after suffering from plantar faciitis for the better part of a decade, the inserts & Active Release Therapy (ART) helped me get my pain, weight & lack of energy under control & now I'm getting…
  • If you don't have a fitbit calorie adjustment under the exercise tab, it's not linked. You need to manually enter any exercise above just walking, because it doesn't do it automatically. Don't enter it on fitbit, just on MFP. I use mine everyday & I love it. It helps me think about getting the steps in, I just wish it…
  • You aren't going to spot reduce. You need to watch what you eat, and exercise. Cardio exercise & strength training will show you the way.
  • Other ways I measure progress without the scale: Amount of sweat after a workoout. Did I lift more / Run further / Run faster etc. then I did last time? Keep track of your body measurements
  • When you start feeling hungry, chew some gum. I prefer Extra peppermint, because it tastes good & the flavor lasts a long time, usually over an hour. It helps to determine if you're really hungry or just feel like you should eat something.
  • For me, Synergy Chiropractic Spine & Joint Center in Lincoln was a life changer. I've had plantar fasciitis for over 5 years & it got so bad that it gave me back problems. I've gone to chiropractors before & I've had cortisone shots & orthopedic inserts & they've all helped to a degree, but Synergy helped me get my life…
  • This is so true! Respect is earned, not given. You get in there & work hard & you'll be fine.
  • Of course it's possible. It's called moderation. I used to eat 4 or 5 boxes of Girl Scout cookies during GS cookie time, but this year I had less than 1/2 a box total. Instead of eating a king size candy bar, I'll have a protein bar & some 1% chocolate milk. You'll never have sustaining success if you try to cut out…
  • I'm Jim. I'm 43, been married 18 years with two kids, 16 & 13. I live just outside Lincoln, work two jobs (UNL & Wal-Mart) and I started getting healthier last winter. I started out at more than 255 lbs & have currently lost more than 35 lbs. I have sleep apnea, plantar fasciitis (had it for 3-4 years). Things got so bad I…
  • People that break one of my two basic rules to live by. #1 - Don't be a douche #2 - A man's go to know his limitations (Dirty Harry)
  • That's hilarious! Just what I needed this morning. I'll be laughing about that all day.
  • I wouldn't mind a cougar attacking me, as long as she was hot.
  • It's never too soon to begin weight training.
  • Sorry, way too many big words to read & I couldn't get past the ET men. It made me want to reeses pieces & phone home.
  • I love the yoplait light fat-free & the Chobani greek yogurt. I just finished my breakfast of Chobani peach, Kashi go lean crunch & a chocolate protein shake. The yoplait (blue labels) has no bad aftertaste. My favorite flavors are Balck forest cake, raspberry lemonade & strawberry orange sunrise. My favorites from Chobani…
  • If humans weren't designed to run, we would have been extinct a very long time ago.
  • Raise your glass - Pink (perfect for a warmup @ 4.0 mph) Renegade - Daughtry Boss's Daughter - Pop Evil Kick @ss - Egypt Central This is gonna hurt - Sixx AM Warrior - Disturbed (also Indestructible & most of their songs) Digital (did you tell) - Stone Sour Move your body - My Darkest Days Scream - Avenged Sevenfold…
  • I always listen to music when I run, because it gives me something to focus on (besides my breathing). Otherwise, with my ADHD, I can think about anything & everything & that in itself can get real distracting & annoying.
  • I have ringtones for most of my contacts (american idiot for my sister). The CSI Theme (Who are you) for my default ringtone For texts i have "Bazinga punk, now we're even" from Big Bang Theory. I got my kids darth Vader's "I am your father." to use as my ringtone when I call. I get my ringtones from Mytinyphone & phonezoo…
  • Definitely! Especially when you see the posers who think they've worked out but have barely broken a sweat. I've noticed a few times people will check out their shirts when I walk by after a workout drenched in sweat. I measure my workouts by the sweatiness of my shirts.
  • Monsters of Rock in KC Missouri, 1986. We saw Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, the Scorpions & Van HAlen. We went there for the Scorpions & VH, but when Metallica came out & started playing Seek & Destroy & thousands of long haired head bangers started going at it, I was hooked! It was the first time I'd even heard of…
  • It must be a mother thing, because my wife is the same way. I tell her that our kids are old enough to take care of themselves for an hour or two, but she feels guilty. I tell her that in the long run, the more she goes to the gym, the better it'll be for all of us. Maybe she needs to be a heartless bas#$* like me, because…
