  • I've just completed week 5 and I'm loving it! Can't agree more on the footwear thing though, by week 2 I was in agony with shin splints, entirely cured by a visit to a sports store where I had my running gait analysed, chatted with a staff member who was a runner hinself and I came away with some Asics - my feet, and legs,…
  • as for affordability, if you don't mind the idea of a second hand hrm, go look on ebay - I got a polar f4 for £5 delivered! It was being sold as spares or repairs as the chest strap had stopped working, the watch was fine. 5 minutes engineering wizardry (looking on youtube for a "how to" vid, and cracking open the unit to…
  • Sounds interesting! I would love to give it a go - here's hoping that I can keep the team happy! No dinner for you my zombies, oh no!
  • *watches tumbleweeds blow past* Aw guys where did you all go, am I the only one that's still on this journey out of all of us? I did the w5d3 20 minutes last night, and want to just say how wonderful it was, I did it, I ENJOYED it, and I finally feel like a runner, perhaps even a semi-fit person!
  • Absolutely agree with the above - the first five I thought no way I'd make it to twenty, then after 10 and 15 breezed past I was just enjoying myself. I can hold my hands up and say I can run for 20 minutes - it's all downhill from here! (in a good way lol) I've been doing the programme outside from day 1, including in a…
  • My favourite it wrapped chicken breasts. Slice down the underide of the breast a few times to butterfly it out and make a little ouch area - fill with cream cheese, wrap the sides of the breast back over it, and stick a slice of bacon or proscuttio around the chicken breast to secure it. Bang in the oven until cooked, then…
  • the thing about the 220 minus your age, well that probably gets less accurate the older you get surely - I know some very fit people in their 60's that would disagree with the number for sure! Depending on your fitness, I don't think that those numbers sound too high, but then I am only basing it on my own experience of…
  • Oh yes I know that one - from time to time I take mine out to see what I'd look like with a normal belly button - it freaks me out! But then I have had it pierced longer than not in my life, so that's no surprise really :)
  • I have 2, top and bottom - never taken them out so I couldn't tell you about scarring, though based on my facial ones they will probably never heal over should I take the jewelry out as the holes are well-healed and established. The holes are fairly innocuous though, so they don't bother me - they're just part of my story!…
  • Amen :flowerforyou:
  • I think I sort of zigzag, but entirely by accident :) On my exercise days I usually have a couple of hundred calories left over, and on my off days I often hit just on, or just over target. I'm hoping that this means overall I'll still be able to lose weight as there should still be a general defecit when looking at a…
  • goddammit ok the html police can come and tell me how to do a link on this site please :)

  • Another vote for c25k here, it really does improve your stamina, and it's SO odd because each time you "up" a level you think there's no way you can do it cos you only just made it through the previous one - and then BAM you do it! It's a great programme for making you feel a great sense of achievement :)
  • It IS funny though - the meme could be used with any picture... Giving way at junctions? using only one lane? E-co-nom-ic fuel use? These things do not apply to us chosen ones (queue picture of a 4x4 driver - and yes, I am one of those, doesn't mean I suddenly think there's 4x4 hate going on!) I don't want this thread to…
  • oh no I seem to be alone in continuing! Where did everybody go that was doing this with me? I just did my w5d2 repeat, and happy to report success :) That 20 minute killer might me on my sunday horizon :)
  • Ok, so I'm back in from my w5d2 run, and for 36 minutes (16 jogging, 20 brisk walking) MFP gives me a calorie burn of 261, whereas my HRM gave me 298 burned. So they're pretty close, though I'm happy that I've been burning a LITTLE more each run than MFP has been estimating :) I think I'm ready for the 20 minute next…
  • Hi guys, maybe a bit late in the day but I'm here, can't believe dummy me didn't think to look for a c25k group when I started lol :) 1) Where you are at in your running program (i.e. Week/Day)? I'm on week 5, should be day 3 but I'm going to repeat day two on todays run due to having my session cut short the other day…
  • Hi all :) Since starting c25k I have been logging by totting up the number of minutes walked and logged them as 3.5 brisk pace, and the number of minutes run, logging that as 12 minute mile jogging. On the whole it's given me a 200cal burn for a session, or thereabouts. I now have a polar f4 up and running so I'm going to…
  • Twix, because you can bite off each end, use it as a straw for a hot cuppa, then nom up the melty goodness in one go - heaven! Kit Kat chunkys are also amazing, but only the peanut butter ones, and I don't think they do them anymore :(
  • Agreed on that! The route actually banned cycles until fairly recently, and now they're only supposed to be off season in that area - it's a matter of hot debate in the local community as we speak lol!
  • Yep I get cold after working out. Cold is my base state of being! Honestly I feel like such a granny when I spend the evenings on the couch wrapped up in a blanket, even in the summer! I think because I get so hot when I'm moving fast, by comparison once it's over the usual cold feels even worse. I also get low blood…
  • For those of you who don't believe our dog laws - yes, dogs are allowed off lead where I live. On the section of beach in question, the restrictions are seasonal, and we're out of season atm. And if I were to only let my dogs off in a "dog park", well they wouldn't go off lead, as we don't have them round here! As for…
  • I'm sorry that this happened to you, and I totally agree that the owner should have asked if you were ok and apologised! I think basically, being a cyclist doesn't make you an asshat, being an asshat makes you an asshat. So the same people that don't show due care to others when they're out on their bikes, are probably the…
  • I don't weigh myself because I don't have scales. So the other day when I was round my sisters, I had a sneaky jump on her scales. I haven't recorded the number, because I was so impressed with it that I was sure it had to be wrong lmao. And since I tagged onto the "no weighing in March" post, I've decided to wait it out…
  • Hearing everyone's cycle rage (joke!) actually makes me feel very thankful that the majority of riders in my area are NOT like the guy who ran my little bean over! That's probably why I have been taken so by surprise, because usually cyclists in the area slow for dogs and pedestrians (they're riding on a beach promenade in…
  • This sums it up perfectly. I can only hope to make a better cyclist than fits this unfortunate stereotype!
  • In response to this, it's quite different over here with regards to dog laws, and whilst I always keep my dogs on lead anywhere unsafe, eg roads, down the town or whatnot, when in the woods, or along the beach, it's normal to have dogs off lead, which I feel very fortunate to live in an area that allows and encourages…
  • Thanks guys, I'm glad I'm not being the unreasonable upset doggy mum! I think she's ok, got a bit of swelling across her back and a sore tail, but she's happy to eat and shout at people walking past the garden so all must be right in her world again :) Thing is, she's fairly bike savvy (I've even taught her "don't get run…
  • My mum seems to have a pressure cooker of the cabbage soup on the go at all times. I don't think she sticks to the rest of the diet as such, just uses the soup to fill throughout the day then might have a meal - or might just have more soup. It. Smells. Bad. I am of course talking the bi-products here, the soup itself is…
