The potential role of protein leverage in the US obesity epidemic The protein leverage model of obesity posits that decreasing the protein content of the diet leads to compensatory increases in total energy intake to maintain an absolute amount of protein consumed. Increased energy intake thereby results in weight gain.…

https://twitter.com/JimJohnsonSci/status/1088810991318638596 Mice: Collectively, our data indicate that endogenous insulin hypersecretion contributes causally to pancreatic cancer development. This suggests a modest reduction in fasting insulin via lifestyle interventions or therapeutics may be useful in cancer prevention.

Trump was just an example of something monumentally stupid that came to be in the exact same way as this campaign. In this instance I don't care that our farming practices are bad for the environment - fossil fuels are worse. It's insane to adopt a nutritionally inferior/deficient diet under the guise of environmental…

lol That does seem pretty contentious. From 1992 (metabolic ward, liquid diet, 16 ppl): Energy intake required to maintain body weight is not affected by wide variation in diet composition. Even with extreme changes in the fat-carbohydrate ratio (fat energy varied from 0% to 70% of total intake), there was no detectable…

I'll take that as a no then. There isn't any particular study you find compelling but that you find the decades of research in and of itself proof - no matter how flawed the studies? There's a mound of it, it must be right really isn't good enough for me. I'm comfortable in my belief that some vegetables are better than…

Your definition of robust and mine must be a different thing. Unless you have a study in mind you find particularly compelling that you think I missed?
-
Weirdly enough I'm still of the opinion that some vegetables are better than none but admit there's little robust evidence to support that -- too many years of "eat your vegetables; they're good for you" I guess. :) But I wasn't expecting the dramatic difference I experienced going low carb (or that later I'd feel better…

I think Sean Baker started it last year ... probably in response to Veganary or something. lol I'm trying it as we speak! I don't think it's something that's necessary or sustainable for me but you never know. So far the only thing I'm experiencing is that slightly buzzed feeling I get from deep ketosis which I don't…

Entraining is the term used in the literature. Besides going to bed early, bright light and eating in the am are two cues that impact circadian timing (so you'd want to avoid late night eating etc.). Bill Lagakos from calories proper has a Ph.D. in circadian biology and has quite a few blog posts on the topic if you feel…

World Carnivore Month is January 2019! Info dump inside! For those trying an all meat diet this January - or are just curious about the carnivore threads popping up - this reddit post seems pretty comprehensive and links to everything I've ever seen -- and tons of stuff I haven't.

It makes me angry. I honestly thought "evidenced based" meant something and Harvard was an authority on nutrition.

For me, that would be a waste of calories and money! I'd start with the vegetables I already liked or tolerated and try different preparations and recipes (you have lots of great suggestions already) to see if I couldn't find a way to make them absolutely delicious and something I looked forward to eating.

No, beef is my preferred protein.

Commonly consumed sources of dietary protein frequently contribute substantially to intakes of nutrients such as calcium, vitamin D, potassium, dietary fiber, iron, and folate, which have been identified as nutrients of “concern” (i.e., intakes are often lower than recommended). Despite this, dietary recommendations to…
