There is added sugar in a lot of processed foods. That having been said, unless you have a medical reason to avoid it, it shouldn't interfere with your weight loss. But if you'd like to cut down on added sugar in breads and such, just reading labels on the foods you buy will help a lot.

^This. Unless you have a diagnosed medical condition, there is no reason not to work out during your period. If you need to take it easier, then take a walk or something equally low impact. Activity helps me. But maybe that's just me.

Your back should not hurt after strength training...maybe check out some form videos for the exercises you're doing.
