Also just because someone else runs an 8 min pace for a marathon does not mean you can or should. There are plenty of us at the back of the pack running 10 min + miles and enjoying it.

Crazy4lulu, Looking great.

I tend to look about 5 to 10 feet ahead to give me time to adjust my path. Keeping my head up also helps with my posture while running.

My profile pic is my running partner. She is wearing my finisher medal from this years philly marathon. I felt she deserved it for all the mornings she forced me to get my but up and out the door to run. For my runs over 5 miles I would drop her off at home and continue. She is a rescue and is part lab and part greyhound…

I run barefoot. I just completed the philadelphia marathon barefoot. I saw several other runners in minimalist shoes during the race but I did not see any other barefooters. My advice is to start slow. I started running 1/8th of a mile and built up from there. Once at 1 mile I increased in 1/2 mile increments til 3 miles.…

There was a post yesterday about good running form which had a link to a website of the same name. I believe the website is from New Balance. There is good information about running form and why. I always say land on the front of the foot but not the toes which is really a mid foot landing. When you tell some people mid…

First congrats. You have stated you have a lot of weight to lose but have not given your starting and current weight. That is probably why people don't believe you. It is like watching "The Biggest Loser" The 400 to 500 pound guy will be loosing 8 or more pounds a week for several weeks in a row. Someone who only weighs…

I am in the some boat as you (no pun intended). My marathon is a little further off (nov 18) but I haven't run since last week. I missed my weekend runs prepping for sandy and have not gotten out yet. I completed my 20 miler but had a 22 miler scheduled last weekend that I missed. I think I will be fine. I am hoping to get…

This makes no sense. You are saying 100 plus 100 does not equal 200. In every math class I ever took 100 + 100 = 200 regardless of if is inches, pounds, watts , calories, does not matter. Now the calories in a steak come from protein and fat and the calories in the bread comes from carbs and they are used differently by…

IMHO, there is a difference in saturated fats from natural sources, think nice juicy ribreye, and from the chemical factory hydrogenating oils to make them last forever. The problem with hydrogenation is that not only do the oils last longer in the food and not turn rancid, the digestive products last longer in your body.…

A site that might help is runyourbq.com There is plenty of information there about how to train to bq.

I believe Hal Higdon has a plan to go from basically a 5 k to a marathon over 6 months or so. Jeff Galloway also has a similar plan. Both will prepare you to finish a marathon. I'm not sure when the london marathon is but if there is there is time consider one of these plans.

As a barefoot runner, I would say that running shoes are not necessary. Get the HRM. Most people disagree with no shoes though so if you can't see yourself running barefoot get a good pair of neutral minimum drop shoes instead of the monitor.

There's your answer. Have someone else do it for you. Easy Peasy.

How fast did you ramp up your milage? I know several people who run more that 6 miles a day 5 to 6 days a week with out a problem. They built up to these levels over years though. Occasionally my ITB will cause knee or hip pain and I have found that taking time off and rolling helps.

How much protein are you eating? MFP default has the protien level set based on the USDA recommendation which is low. Most people find 1 gram per pound of bodyweight a reasonable targer. My favorite is Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate. I mix it in milk for my breakfast.

Yes, this is our governments recommendation for macro's based on the low fat 80's and 90's. Current thought is that protein and fat should be higher and carbs lower. The government might catch up in 20 years. Edited to add: I intended to quote the post stating the macros recommended by the USDA or CDC.

Not to call any one out but how come when someone says I want to run barefoot people start recommending shoes. Barefoot means skin to ground. Even minimum shoes are shoes and provide reduced feedback from the ground. There are times when shoes are a good idea. Back to the point. Are you a new runner? Either way you have to…

Try measuring the butter milk before and after. Enter the diffence for your calories. I would think that some of the liquid is absorbed into the chicken or you would not bother using it in the marinade.

Both have their place and provide different benefits. Neither is better than the other. Back on topic. Most people who find the road harder are having trouble pacing themselves. On a treadmill, the machine paces you. If you can run an hour on the machine you can run an hour outside. You just need to find the right pace…

Either don't look at it or don't finish it. One of those is the problem. I'll let you figure out which it is.

Congratulations and keep at it. Just wondering if you have thanked your coworker?

Are you following a training plan? If not look at Hal Higdon's novice plan. You should be able to follow that for the weeks remaining. His novice plan is for beginners and is a "to finish" type of training. Edited to Add: Good luck. My first marathon is the Philly Marathon. I started running 3 years ago after a 20 year…

I did not read all of the posts so I may be stating things already said. First, Why wait for febuary? Why not start now? If you are interested in barefoot running, I would recommend starting complete barefoot. You can either do the c25k barefoot or find another beginner program. I used the barefoot program found under the…

If you want to gain muscle and lose fat, try upping your protien. A nice targer would be 1 gram per pound of body weight. While it is difficult for an experienced weight lifter to gain muscle and lose fat, you have the benefit of being a newbie. It is quite common for newbies to gain muscle while losing fat and eating at a…

You are fine eating over 100 g of protein a day. The myth of no more then x grams per meal or x grams per day have been disproven. Current recommendations for athletes is 1 gram (or more) per pound of body weight for protein, 0.5 gram per of body weight for fat, and the remainder of your calories from carbs. Most important…

Ever hear the cheech and chong routine where the dog ate thier stash?

For running, I just use the running shorts with a built in liner. No need for underwear, that is what the liner is for. Make sure they are snug to reduce bounce and chaffing.
-
Are you still currently running? If you did 25 k (15 miles) last may, you should have plenty of time to train for a full marathon starting in Dec / Jan. Most "To Finish" training plans are 16 weeks for people who can already run 5 to 10 miles.

Some people think that there is a difference in jogging and running. There isn't. Jogging is running. Sprinting is running. Both are running just for different speeds and distances.
