  • I'm generally happy to buddy up with anyone that needs help but can say that I am finally at a point where I've less than 100lbs to lose... after losing about 235lbs so far give or take. I'm about 60lbs from my high goal, and 90lbs from my ultimate. Started at 535lbs. It's serious business!
  • @Mexiibabii You're more than welcome to reach out to me anytime, and I'll try my best to respond. I also have a page tracking my current progress on FB and a channel on YT. Nowadays, I'm focusing more on what it's like to live after having weight loss surgery... I lost about 115lbs before surgery, and the rest after... but…
  • Seriously, it's a common occurrence to experience a feeling of dislike when it comes to the body changes. I've actually written blogs and done at least one vlog about the fact that "experts" do not typically discuss the fact that you go in waves of appreciating the body changes and waves of wishing you hadn't changed…
  • Thanks dear. I just wanted to share, because I think it's important to recognize (as many know anyway) that not all stories are the same, and we all have a different springboard for the things we do.
  • @kshama2001 Funny thing is, I feel similarly from this side of the fence. When I'm in conversations where a person's starting weight is equal to my goal weight (My surgery goal weight is 240lbs... I'm 6'1" though, and currently about 65lbs from this high end goal) I get pretty frustrated. I don't know why they would elect…
  • I'm late to this party but as a fairly recent WLS patient, the first page of this thread was a bit eyebrow-raising to me in regards to the assumptions and opinions. So let me break it down... 1. I lost 115lbs through a diet and exercise program that long and very troubling, and ultimately stalled out. I lived in a weight…
  • I would also like to point out that people that are stating they would "absolutely gain" if they increased to 2k, that doesn't mean that they aren't necessarily needing to eat more. Every person that is routinely undereating for their current body stature and activity level will see an initial amount of weight gain simply…
  • Basically what you're saying is you start with a dose of carbs and very little protein, and then, if you get hungry, you eat another source of carbs. Even if you don't want to eat dinner leftovers for breakfast, it's a pretty solid recommendation from almost every source on eating out there that keeping satiated at the…
  • You all are just so kind :) Was just a day or two after I posted this that I wore my first dress bought at Target since about half my life ago. I try to share my story to help other people know that the story isn't so easy for everyone... It's easy to think you're the only one who struggles, when people are only wanting to…
  • Thanks to you guys. I know it's still just a progress update but things have changed so much since those hopeless days!!
  • My voice can be heard weekly at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtIR-E8BAH0haEi0365a3ww because I give updates post-op. If anyone cares lol
  • Apparently you've missed the multiple responses where people were literally picking up the circulars from chain grocery stores and/or posting links directly to recipes and other things. Also, OP has already clarified that it's not "what would you do to..." it's "how would you use this money to..." and the professor simply…
  • The Cure makes an appearance on the list I gave above lol
  • I'm familiar with Caspian. Personally, I like to have solid lyrics alongside the good pace, because it is distracting from the pain of working out sometimes... haha! But maybe I'll start an instrumental list. I share these with my groups and such.
  • Personally, I have a playlist that I created for myself and other MFP links for this exact purpose. Current run time is almost 5 hours, and it grows with diversity as time goes by. Mostly indie or things that a lot of people don't put on their typical "workouts" like... no Welcome to the Jungle crud. Feel free to follow it…
  • Digestive systems do sometimes need breaks, but that's typically for medical conditions (like if you had diverticulosis, WLS, etc.)... My point being, if you don't have a confirmed GI condition, it is unlikely that you will need to "rest" the intestines. Personally, I saw my best weight loss when employed an "every hour"…
  • As someone that lived poor for an extended period of time and fed myself on less than $2 a day, I will say that this is really not that hard. If you buy smart and keep your eyes open for clearance items, you could easily accomplish this. I think "doing research" was more of a thing to say, research sales, find articles…
  • Loss of social relationships is one of the things they talk about in bariatric surgery classes... While I have had surgery now, I lost 115lbs on my own before doing the surgery, and I experienced the loss of friends during both processes. Now, it is true that some are expressing their real concern or they are struggling…
  • If you're talking about a sagging pouch under the navel, it's sometimes called an apron (depending on how big the skin section is) and there really isn't anything you can do aside from having a tummy tuck or pannulectomy (this is for bigger flaps of skin). It's skin and subcutaneous fat, so at best, you can use a fat…
  • As a bariatric patient that has primarily liquid dietary fulfillment, I can attest to the fact that having a quality shake habit is just as viable as anything else. Personally, if I was able to, I'd use a product like Soylent over SlimFast... I'm currently waiting for the cost of the ketogenic version to go down. Some may…
  • Personally, I put a mini-desk bike under my desk and shoot for at least 60 minutes if not more. I usually have a mileage goal as well. When using automatic counters, cycle movements are considered to be "steps" and thus I don't feel too poorly about that. I'm a bariatric patient and the use of mini-cycles both during my…
  • I have found it an interesting thing really, because I have not had a point where I thought "Why did I do this?" Lots of people in the support groups express regret early on but I never had a sense of regret. I think it helped me a lot to lose a lot and spend a good 5 years making the decision and changing my life. The…
  • I take a full spectrum bariatric vitamin 4 times a day because well, I'm a bari patient. 10k IU of D3 a day due to low vitamin D, likely from having a desk job and fibromyalgia B12 sublingual for bari needs and fatigue due to fibro 400mg potassium due to low potassium 500mg magnesium oxide for fibro I also take a 1oz fiber…
  • If you cannot see a standard counselor, then I suggest utilizing peer counseling. I provide counseling services at 7cups.com and have helped a number of people with recurring issues. I will say that as a ED recovery patient that has now had WLS to mitigate some of the effects... I always thought that I was eating out of…
  • In the course of 2-3 days, it's very easy to consume 7000 extra calories if you have been eating at a consistent deficit, for one... Let's say, based on OP's weight, she's eating maybe 1500 calories consistently. That means that each day, consumption of 5000 calories would need to happen. Considering that she stated she…
  • This is in many ways the kind of dietary prep life that they have for bariatrics patients (I am one) but they have us focus on a specific kind of shake. There is nothing wrong with blending the foods... You can blend, puree, etc, as long as the whole fruit remains, it'll all be there... No blender breaks down molecular…
  • At a certain point, the body will simply stop allowing thyroid function to occur if you train over a long span of time that you will not provide enough fuel for the work that you do. It's a survival aspect. I completely destroyed my metabolism this way. Netting less than 700 calories a day for several years. I gained…
  • 1. Your assumption is that the steps are being synced through a full day tracker and not through a program such as MapMyRun. It certainly does NOT do this kind of over all adjustment if you are only syncing the workouts, rather than the full day. 2. After utilizing a BodyMedia Fit Link for a very long time, I can…
  • I should state that it took maybe 2-3 months of having the Mirena out of my babymaker before I felt completely normal but I was able to stop my medications almost immediately simply because I didn't feel withdrawal.. I kept forgetting! Weight loss has caused me a lot of hormone changes and is the primary cause of my PCOS…
  • Okay I saw that you had Mirena. I'll tell you straight up... I went from having episodic, grief-induced depression to a diagnosis of agoraphobia with possible borderline personality disorder during the ~year I had my Mirena in. Before that, I started the pill. Yaz. I was already taking antidepressants and was doing okay,…
