Starvation mode very much does indeed exist for the % of the population that eats in anorexic/disordered eating levels. People who suffer such illnesses HAVE to increase calories incrementally until they reach an appropriate level. I'm proof positive of how it can screw everything up. Blood tests will demonstrate it if…

The odds are that your body hurts the way it does at least in part due to not moving at all. You have to make the decision that it's important to start moving. You don't have to start with a long workout. In fact, you don't have to start with a workout at all. When you are truly 100% sedentary, your first step can be…

Honestly? All I see in this discussion is EXCUSES. Tons and tons of excuses. I can't eat healthy because I gain weight? BS. For the cost of one 250 calorie candy bar, you can insert 2 pieces of fruit, a serving of high quality dairy, at least 2 servings of vegetables and a small portion of lean protein. All far better than…

If it's truly a chocolate craving, you may have low blood sugar issues or a chemical imbalance in your neurotransmitters. Our bodies release dopamine when we eat delicious things, which is the same thing that is released when we take opiates and other drugs. If you had a heavy chocolate eating habit, and are now cutting it…

Consistent conditioning does just that. It conditions your body to be more efficient. Lower heart rate typically shows body conditioning. However, if you're able to achieve 70% of your max heart rate during a moderate workout, I'm not sure why this is stated as your heart not being hard enough? If you need to pick up the…

I'm not sure why there's a justification around every suggestion, with the exception of my stating you should find a therapist. I stand by that statement. Episodic depression can be an indicator of manic depression. You do not have to have out of control mania episodes to be experiencing serotonin and dopamine swings. If…

For me, I gave up on any online calculator and bought a BodyMedia Fit. It measures your personalized day to day burn and averages as you go, and it was way different than any calculator online gave me... By at least a full meal most days. Anyway, once I used personalize stats, I started dropping weight a lot easier. I know…

When's the last time you got your anemia evaluated? Weakness, depression, listlessness can all be signs of increasing anemia issues. You may need something more substantial that a standard multi-vitamin, since they are not fully metabolized. Secondly, I think you are experiencing a very common situation... That is, "I lost…

If you want to supplement your diet, you need to have vitamin panels done. That is, if you're going to take something more than a simple multi-vitamin... though even those, you shouldn't really need to take unless you are deficient in your dietary goals. I see people saying it's no big deal, but in my eyes, it's a very…

This is a troll, right? Please tell me this is a troll... I'd almost bet money on the fact that you're not burning 500 calories every other day... At least not easily. And I can't imagine someone of your body type being able to burn 500 calories in less than maybe 3 hours of workouts. Seriously? Excessively working out so…

I was thinking about this myself. The fact that they say you should limit it to maximum a couple times a week. Really, tinned anything is going to be a poor choice if it's all you eat, just due to the canning process.

Anorexia is not defined by the number of meals you eat. The average anorexic eats anywhere from 400-900ish calories a day. They often accomplish this by sitting down to every family meal but just eating so little of said meal that they don't every spike higher than 1000 calories a day. Anorexia is also characterized by…

I'd abide by the body. If you are able to eat late and then sleep, without heartburn or anything of that nature, it shouldn't be an issue. Personally, I would opt for a lighter dinner than usual, or opt for packing a meal for dinner at work. That, or supplying a couple snacks for the work shift so that you can eat a light…

Just wanted to say that I find this particularly hilarious coming from a guy that manages to somehow get 400+ calories from "coffee with cream" on a regular basis. I mean, dang. That's a pretty cruddy choice, and yet, obviously is perfectly okay with you? We all have different perceptions of food. Me, I have a 3300 calorie…

Knowing that to reach my goal weight in a healthy way, I still have over 2 years of work to go... and that's without any more major health issues. Since I started losing, I have had to have 3 abdominal surgeries, which resulted in a lot of bedrest and long stretches of medical restriction to my exercise. Most people assume…

Heck no. I'm a 50H/I and learned ages ago that wearing a bra to bed is not a good idea. Especially not if you're not changing into a sleeping bra, but wearing "day" bra. You couldn't possibly sleeping daily in the type of bras I have to wear, and I just push them out of the way when I need to. I actually sleep as naked as…

I have a digital scale, goes up to 550lbs, have yet to replace the batteries due to them dying (I had to because I got desperate once, needed the AAs for another item in my house) in three years... and it talks. You tap it on with your foot, it says hello and tells you when it's ready, and when it has weighed you, it…

I work overnight myself. I have my diary set up in chunks of time rather than meals. So, the "meals" are actually 8 hour blocks of time, and I choose to have separate sections for snacking and drinks, and medication. So, it's 12am-8am, 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, every day. Calories/per day is a guide for your eating, it's not an…

There really wasn't in the female eye because most "healthy" women who become pregnant would note weight gain as well as increase appetite... So the post would be more like, I'm trying to eat about 1200 calories a day to bring my period back, but all that is happening is I'm gaining weight, more than I should be for 300…

Me, I can fluctuate in water weight up to 20lbs, and it often has nothing to do with eating over maintenance or eating salt. Exercise can generate water gain. Hormones can generate it. Lazy days can generate it. Simply eating more than your standard intake can do it. Our bodies will hold onto water in order to dilute and…

Putting in that much work, and feeling "slightly weak," should be a strong indicator to you that you are probably not eating enough for your body. Regardless of eating to "satisfaction." Our bodies need a general level of intake to function properly, and from the stats stated, there is simply no reason for you to eat such…

Clean water serves a couple purposes, and can aid in digestion, in the sense that it provides a no-calorie way of keeping peristalsis going throughout the day, which moves foods through your system with more ease. It's also more easily available for energy metabolism. That being said, the Mayo Clinic suggests you get a…

I agree that it sounds like a culture thing, and not an intentionally offensive, meant to hurt you sort of thing. It doesn't mean that I agree with the tactic, but comparing yourself to other family members isn't going to do any good either. The thing about self-esteem is it is about the SELF. Why care what they think?…

Thank you! My boyfriend at the time made a point to tell everyone at the Ball that it was my own design... I simply wanted to make something that would cover the right stuff, not accentuate my rolls too much... I didn't have to get a special bra because of it, and I was able to wear bright green skater shoes underneath…

Oh yes! I have only had one ER trip since the big surgery in November. Was scared cuz it hurt a lot but ultrasound showed that it hurt cuz I ovulated 7 eggs my first go 'round after being so jacked up! Everything has been WAY better, especially now that my internals are not swollen from healing anymore :) Thanks!

This is odd because the dude said it CAN make a huge difference, not that it's required or that it's going to be that way across the board. For me, cardio exercise burns 800-1200 calories an hour give or take. If you ask me, that makes a pretty big difference. Maybe smaller people don't have such things happen but exercise…

If you have a daily goal, the question becomes, did you eat over said goal? If not, then chill. The average Japanese sweet potato has 115-135 calories in it. How that's going to break a diet, I have no idea. There is actually a diet constructed around the satsumaimo explicitly intended to lower calorie intake without being…

I've lost 77lbs, but still wear many of the same clothes. Most "plus sized" clothing is made with spandex woven in to make it stretchier than others. Even jeans with button/zip flies usually have a small percentage of elastic woven in. Heavy people have a tendency of wearing clothes that are technically too small, because…
