  • I use them for times when I don't feel I could manage to prepare and eat a meal. Mostly breakfast time, but as being unwell is a fairly common occurrence for me, for reasons unconnected to my food intake, whenever I can.
  • No it isn't. The life expectancy graph ends at 2000. The meat consumption one a decade later. Like I said, compare the same period on both graphs. And as has already been posted, that doesn't actually mean a great deal in isolation, anyhow. But at least I compared like with like.

  • No. It won't work as a magical detox potion. Tastes pretty good, though. And anything that encourages people to drink water isn't a bad thing.
  • Just look at the gradient for the same period, then. The trend is still life expectancy increasing with increased meat consumption. However, correlation isn't causation; there's medical advances, a more abundant supply of food, cheaper food, even provision of food stamps to take into account. But the fact one shows a…

  • Of course it's fine to eat ice cream. However...if you've drastically reduced the amount of sugar and carbs in your diet, you might find that it tastes really sickly sweet and you don't enjoy it as much as you thought you would. As I found out. And promptly chucked the whole tub in the trash.
  • It's just the change in you that he's finding hard to comprehend. You do look much slimmer everywhere, particularly your face, but no, not anorexic. Just the weight loss has shown up your features more clearly, like your eyes. And perhaps he's the sort of guy who 'likes' larger build ladies - just as some find slimmer…
  • A lot of guys who lose weight don't realise that they're still the same waist measurement because their trousers now sit around their stomach, rather than under it. An ex went from a 36 to a 34, but didn't appreciate that, had he actually worn his pants where they belonged, he would have started off in 44s.
  • Honeybush tea (especially with vanilla and lavender) tastes slightly sweet. As would a tea with citrus peel in it. Like Earl Grey, which has bergamot in it. Or just add lemon/orange peel to a black tea and infuse. Or mint tea, especially with water mint or spearmint. That's lovely iced as well. ETA: make with hot water and…
  • I don't feel like giving up. Because this isn't a temporary thing to be abandoned at the first opportunity or when I'm feeling unhappy about something - it's a permanent change in habits. And because I'm not depriving myself of anything, there's nothing to give up with. It's a bit of an empty thing to say 'right, that's it…
  • Well, when people are on drips and unable to eat from severe illness/injury, in addition to the salt provided in the saline bag, they don't get any fibre or fat or suchlike. It's just fluid, salt and pure carbs. They seem to do ok on it; they may die from the illness or trauma, but they don't die from the drip contents.
  • Well, nearly. It's argued that where stomachs were used as vessels for carrying liquids, such as milk, if one were to retain some of the juices, it would have caused the milk to curdle/separate inside. So they would have found the milk had become curds and whey. And because true hunger means not being faddy and pernickety…
  • Which version of this Word? The one where women are stoned to death for damaging their resale value?
  • Of course it isn't. Cottage cheese is cows' milk that has rennet, a substance obtained from calves' stomach juices, added. The addition of the acid/enzyme causes the fats to curdle and separate from the whey. It is exactly the same chemical process. If calves puked, they'd produce cottage cheese. An alternative is to add…
  • Nice to think of women in terms of resale value. Which is exactly where the concept of virginity/being non shop soiled came from. Buying and selling women and girls.
  • Milk. Egg. Cream. Sugar to taste. Vanilla. Make custard, allow to cool, put in tub, put in freezer. Take out a couple of times and break up with a fork and return to freezer. Plenty of that calcium, protein and fat, as well as some sugar. Separate it into individual small portions and freeze separately.
  • Hence doing it for a reasonable length of time and recording it properly. It's easier to spot a clear trend that way, if every episode occurs up to 72 hours after eating x, but not when it hasn't been eaten during that period, then there's a good possibility that x is involved somehow.
  • It's like selling a car on the basis of being straight from the factory or with a couple of previous owners.
  • It's technically correct and functionally useful - all you'd be saying is 'you're out of gas'.
  • Unless you're particularly tall, teenage clothes will fit you - and they have the advantage of not carrying VAT, so they'll be significantly cheaper.
  • They don't tend to have honey taken and sold, then. Can you imagine the sales byline 'Our bees have their winter stores of honey taken and then we leave the colony to pretty much starve to death over winter - all because it's more natural that way'?
  • Could easily be a fungal infection. No dietary supplement is going to fix that - but using a shampoo with ketoconazole in it would.
  • Anyone want to take bets upon what honey bees are fed to keep them alive over winter, rather than let the majority of the colony die out because humans want the honey they've stored to feed themselves over winter to sell?
  • If something doesn't agree with you, don't eat it.
  • What does she normally eat? Would be simpler, less traumatic and far, far cheaper if she were to log what she eats and note any symptoms she has after eating it for a reasonable period, then see if there's a particular food or method of cooking that coincides with those times. Once there's something obvious that seems to…
  • Also probably means you have to replace them sooner, as they'll start to stink, no matter how many times you wash them. Yuck.
  • It's only boring if you're not doing it right.
  • With everybody who starts monitoring their food in order to lose fat and continues making healthier choices, they will reach a point at which it isn't about weight loss anymore - it becomes maintaining their health. You're at that point - you do not need to lose any more weight. Your boyfriend is right, you are perfect as…
  • It is only a couple of calories here and there that we're talking about with an apple. Not enough to destroy an entire week of making healthy choices. The fructose content by weight varies from variety to variety and from apple to apple, depending upon the amount of sunshine, the amount of rain, the length of time in…
  • Withdrawal is withdrawal. In the case of alcohol, for example, there is a chemical dependence upon the substance that means an unmedicated, sudden removal of the supply causes brain damage and sometimes death. Psychologically being upset or anxious because they aren't eating something they really like isn't withdrawal.…
  • Including attention. There's a whole word of science between addiction and compulsion. One is physical and can be demonstrated in purely mathematical expressions. One is purely based upon self reporting. I know which one is more accurately described as a medical condition which can be tested, measured and proven using…
