  • I second the oatmeal! I love that it's a blank canvas for any flavors i wish to add. I could eat it for 7 days straight and not have the same flavor once. Also, greek yogurt.
  • I personally prefer the scale and use whatever the package says a serving is in grams/ounces. That way i know im as close as possible to what the Calories are. To me, There's too much variation in measuring solids by anything but weight. I always wonder how tightly you're supposed to pack 1 cup of something to get what the…
  • Thank you!
  • If you're really adventurous, radishes and yellow summer squash are good raw or dipped in something like hummus
  • My new thing is sugar snap peas. You can eat a whole mound for only 35 Calories. I also snack on organic whole (not baby) carrots with the skin on. Both are cheap. For a non veggie snack i reach for Kashi bars or Stonyfield Farms Oikos (different than Dannon oikos) Greek Yogurt. They dont have any weird ingredients. Not…
  • Drinking my calories. I'm pretty sure it was the sweet and creamy coffee drinks and regular soda that got me. My first real job was in an office right over a coffee shop. i didnt get the coffee drinks everyday, but since I had no clue about calories, it didn't even occur to me that they could be contributing to weight gain…
  • I think you did right by listening to your body and still eating dinner, just a smaller one. Gets you right back into eating sensibly because you won't have to wake up super starving tomorrow.
  • On a day when I have some calories to splurge - honey and some roasted salted almonds. The salty sweet thing is yummy.
  • I do get red marks around my side because I have it as tight as possible (it tends to loosen throughout my workouts) but nothing that I ever notice as far as pain/irritation. I'm a C and use a UnderArmour 'compression' style sports bra that really smooshes the girls in place and keeps them there. I will never go back to…
  • Ahh okay I misread, doesn't seem like it's a strap problem unless maybe your strap is finnicky and has a 'right side up'. I've noticed on mine that the transmitter connector is not positioned in the middle of the strap, so sometimes when I put it on the short end goes to the right, while sometimes the short end is on the…
  • Hey there ,I just happened to notice the other day on the polar website that you can buy a larger strap. Not sure if that would help in your situation? http://www.polarusa.com/us-en/products/accessories/WearLink_Strap I position mine right around my solar plexus, just under where my sports bra ends.
  • Food scale and HRM were pretty helpful for me - if you've never paid attention to portion sizes (like I hadn't) it will be an eye opener. I've found that even foods that give you approximates like '1/2 cup' or '1 tablespoon' can be quite off when you weigh them. I've also noticed that ellipticals are one of the worst…
  • Yeah 'tone' is really just the visual look of a high muscle to fat ratio for a given area. More muscle + less fat means the muscles show up more because the fat isn't hiding them. You should definitely want to build muscle because it's the key to keeping your basal metabolic rate up as you age. Without the use of steroids,…
  • I never remember to weigh it so I generally try to log it as somewhere around 110-120 calories unless it's a small one.

  • I work out during but pretty much just avoid the scale and let it run its course. I try to up my water intake if possible though I don't know if it really helps. The active ingredient for bloating in pills like Midol/Pamprin is actually the caffeine because it's a diuretic. So you could try having extra coffee if it's…
  • I only log my coffee if it has anything in it aside from zero calorie sweetener, which is very rare.

  • I may be the devil's advocate here, but nothing says you CAN'T have some so long as it fits into your daily calories. Weigh out a serving of the chips and a serving of dip and count the calories. Plan for it with exercise. No biggie Whatever you choose, stay strong!
  • Maybe you just haven't found THE exercise that gets you excited? Zumba is what does it for me, but maybe for you it's hiking, biking, DVD's, kickboxing, or other group classes? I can honestly say I look forward to my Zumba class each week. My other trick on days I'm not feeling it is to change into my workout gear as soon…
  • Like others, I recommend getting fitted properly. I would have never known I over-pronate if I hadn't. They set me up with a support shoe and insoles to help with it. I can say that I just ditched my Nike's because they didn't hold up very well, causing my back to start hurting after running. That's what I get for buying…
  • I usually am able to find what I need if I put in the exact brand of item I'm consuming. But sometimes, especially for produce which doesn't have nutrition facts, I'll cross reference what I find here with this website http://nutritiondata.self.com/
  • Sounds like you are! I've noticed this with my jogging lately too.
  • Agree.
  • There is a distinction between calorie and Calorie. http://www.physlink.com/education/askexperts/ae195.cfm Food and exercise here would be what you're referring to as nutrition, or captial C Calories, or kCal
  • I have used coca cola to braise beef ( you add tomato sauce) and it really ended up like a bbq type sauce, so sprite doesnt sound too strange to me. As long as you cook low and slow youll never know it was even in there.
  • I lost 38 lbs and 13% body fat with pretty much cardio only. My muscle also increased, just not as fast as the fat decreased. I say pretty much because I occasionally did yoga which isn't exactly cardio but it's also not traditional strength training. Only in the past month or so have I started lifting weights.
  • I have two guesses w/out being able to check out the diary - 1) sodium is out of whack - this is less likely if you cook your food all the time, but it still can happen if you eat cured meats such as bacon, sausage, ham, or even corned beef. Soy sauce is also a huge killer. Even seemingly healthy things such as chicken…
  • Oh yeah!
  • Not that you were asking, but a heart rate monitor is a much better way to have an idea of what you burned. The site's estimates were very inconsistent in my experience. I've had mine for a year now (a Polar FT4) and it has been a huge help.

  • Kettlebell really comes to mind for me, but I don't have a specific DVD to recommend.
