Tanita has an Athletic model, but honestly, none of them claim to be highly accurate when it comes to measuring body fat. One thing that will help is the time you use it - in the morning for your weight, before dinner for body fat and/or water measurements. I use mine as a general guide to track my progress(down 4% so…

I strongly recommend you eat at least your BMR NET - you want to lose weight, yes, but you want it to be sustainable and healthy. Eating 500-800 a day net is just not healthy and it is not sustainable for the vast majority of folks. I've been eating my exercise calories back since day one and I have been steadily losing my…

It's amazing how we'll let other people's opinions waylay us - even break us. OK, you did your best to explain it to him and he wasn't buying it. I suggest you quit trying to explain it to him - or anyone else, for that matter. Work on a couple of one-liners you can toss out whenever anyone questions your food choices,…

whoops! wrong place to post that

I love my Tanita, as it's extremely accurate, but it was about $50. If finances are an issue, there are lots of inexpensive choices in the stores that will work just fine. However, please keep in mind many of the inexpensive digital versions have a false 'memory', which means you step on the scale and get a number. Step…

Nope - alcohol might help you go to sleep, but it messes with deep sleep patterns and leads to wakefulness later in the night.

Are you getting any rest days or are you exercising 7 days a week?

Thanks for being part of the community as well! Support is so nice, but remember, you did all the hard work yourself . Congratulations!

Have this 5 mornings out of 7. I make a big batch at least once a week for SO and me. Has less than 300 calories for 8 oz the way I do it (2 C steel cut oats toasted in 2 T butter, cook with 4 C water, 4 C milk for 20 minutes or so. Add 1 tsp sea salt, 2 oz brown sugar, 5 oz mixture of dried cranberries, cherries, and gold…

Congratulations! And thanks for sharing.

I have - it helped me come to terms with some last remaining vestiges of resentment I had toward my ex. Very worthwhile read.

Standing and clapping, then bowing low in respect. Thank you so much for sharing,

I'd recommend eating as healthy as possible, exercising a reasonable amount, and lots of sleep - not to lose more weight or even tone, but to keep your stress level down. The wedding is one day, the marriage gets all the rest. Wouldn't you like to start this off by feeling good and well-rested? I can just about guarantee…

Yes, if your diet is working for you, then you obviously need those calories, and it doesn't matter what time you eat them. I'd suggest you quit trying to convince/explain it to people who either don't want to understand or don't respect your judgement; maybe use a simple 'this works for me' then change the subject.

Eating the proper amount of calories is so difficult for some of us to wrap our brains around, but if you inputted your correct activity level, then I would trust the figure and at least give it a 2-3 week trial. You will probably find (as I did) that It's such a pleasant thing to eat a reasonable amount and still lose…

Welcome! A few tidbits 1) Losing 10 pounds in one week is an indication of water-loss rather than fat loss - but that's still quite a bit 2) Most folks' weight loss isn't a consistent journey of 1-2 pounds a week - it can and most likely will fluctuate up and down; 3) Your metabolism doesn't shut down at 9 at night, so it…

Folks, he didn't ask for her opinion, she asked him for his, then wanted to beat him up when it wasn't what she wanted to hear. Yes, he was definitely less than supportive, but it's never a good idea to ask a question if you're not prepared for an answer you won't like.

Please don't take this so personally - not everyone reads all the replies and sometimes when I take a few minutes to thoughtfully type out something, by the time it gets done, 5 new replies have been posted.

My previous Taylor scale went bonkers and I bought another Taylor, although a different model, as my previous one was discontinued. Discovered it had one of those false memories (step on scale, it gives you a weight. Take off shoes, step back on scale, it hesitates, then locks into the previous setting - very annoying!),…

Another Alton Brown fan here. His never-fail steamed egg trick: eggs at room temperature, put in a steamer basket over about an inch of water, cover and bring to a boil. Let steam for 11 minutes. Turn off, transfer eggs to an ice water bath to quick cool for 10 minutes or so, and they're perfect - easy to peel, too.

Depends what works best for everyone. If they want time to themself without any distractions, mornings would be best. If they like company and want the kids to learn good exercise habits, nothing wrong with having the kids work out with them.

First, congratulations! Second, I have to agree with you. Two pounds+ on average per week is actually rather a quick loss for someone with less than 40 pounds to lose. I believe at this point the recommended weight loss would be a pound per week, then down to 1/2 pound a week for the final 10-15 pounds. Personally, I'm a…

It's just a simple formula and can't take into account any of the twists and turns of the weight loss journey - I ignore it.
