Any way it's sliced, sugar on MFP whether it comes from fruit, honey or white table sugar is counted the same way. In any of the Paleo/Primal books I've read, sugar is eliminated in it's entirety and specifically fruit should be limited if trying to lose weight. It should be a given in any diet that fruit contains sugar,…

I'm curious to watch Part 3, the installment regarding children. My son has ADHD and I've been interested in putting him on a Paleo/Primal diet for a few months. He said he's game, but theory and practice are a bit different.

Coffee is a big vice for me. I will have some in the morning and it used to be that I would use creamer and sugar. I did coconut milk for a while and switched to pasture-raised half & half because it just tastes better. The coconut milk was just too heavy for me and made me sick at times. But I follow Primal, not Paleo,…

I watched the first installment last night but they didn't mention a lot about SAD. They were talking about gastric bypass and diabetes. I couldn't help but keep scoffing at the doctors when they would claim their patients were following a very strict diet but not losing weight. Well duh...they were probably following SAD…

Hi WIChelle! I use my scale everyday but I always feel as though I'm a slave to it. My official weigh-in date is on Tuesdays so I really only count those. The rest of the weigh-ins are for personal use regarding water retention. If I notice my weight goes up, it's usually because my sodium intake was ridiculous, like it…

Hi Lucysmommy, Welcome to the group! As far as canola oil, check out the link below for a discussion regarding the use of Canola oil as a "healthy oil". I don't think it can be trusted as there are other alternatives. http://paleohacks.com/questions/3220/canola-oil-good-or-bad#axzz1uZcNPec6 Also, remove low fat dairy from…

I also have Hashi's and typically eat a mild amount of cruciferous vegetables weekly without any problems because cooking them greatly reduces their goitrogenic effects. However, you'll also want to stay away from nightshades as they have been shown to give people like us with autoimmune diseases even more issues. I…

I'm in too! I was doing so well not cheating at all and then I fell off the wagon. Ready to do this!

Coronalime, did you experience any other symptoms with celiac other than joint pain before you were diagnosed as such? Did you have digestive issues? I don't think I have an allergy because my symptoms are limited in painful, swollen joints, but now I'm curious. Don't most people who are diagnosed with Celiac typically…

Thanks for all the responses, everybody. It seems like a big no-brainer but up until now, I had never connected the joint pain and gluten. I have been doing Primal up until last weekend, so I know it's not dairy. But I overloaded it on the sugar and gluten, so that has to be the culprit. I now have an appointment set to…

I always thought too much protein was bad for the kidneys and that the body would metabolize it much in the same way as it would carbs/glycogen, which for Paleo people isn't bad. I've also read that with protein the range should be anywhere between .5 for sedentary people to 1.0 for athletes who train hard. Everybody else…

Missyyclaire, I can attest to the less gas and bloating as a result of going Paleo/Primal. It's amazing that for the longest time I thought that was normal. Now when I cheat on occasion, I can immediately feel the effects of the non-paleo food and the effect it has on me within minutes. I always thought broccoli and beans…

Hi all, I'm relatively new to the Paleo/Primal circle as well. I started Paleo January 9th of this year and was strict for the first 3 weeks so I would become fat adapted. Then I switched to Primal my remaining 9 weeks of a Biggest Loser challenge we're doing on FB. I'll be switching back to strict Paleo in a few days to…

Totally stole this for an FB posting...classic!!

Anybody else have input one way or another?

Convenience is definitely a big deal with meals. That makes sense. I'm trying to understand the many reasons for people to supplement with a good quality protein shake because I'm wondering if I'm missing something in not having them. I love to eat and as such, I stuff my face with protein, fat and the right carbs…

My friend is also breastfeeding and is eating around 1800 with 300 of those calories added on top of her 1500 calorie allotment. She's doing Weight Watchers. As far as the question regarding type of exercise, it depends on how much you're actually putting into it. With Insanity at 154 lbs, I burn 300-350 for 40 minutes. I…

Great news to hear! I can't wait to wow my endocrinologist with my elevated HDL levels at my next screening.

They're actually not legumes or nuts from what I found but rather a seed that attaches itself to the bottom of the cashew apple. Thanks for the info, dennydifferen. For all purposes, they're okay on Paleo from what I gather, unlike the peanut. Here is more info: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=98

And yes, cashews are nuts, not legumes.

The biggest concern with nuts are the Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs) and Omega 6 levels that accompany them. The best nuts for Paleo/Primal are walnuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, cashews, and their associated butters. The ratio between Omega 6 and PUFAs are relative to the type of nuts preferred by Paleo/Primal. If…

There's no way to do Paleo halfway. It's either you're Paleo, Primal or you're not (or unwilling to make a serious change). There's no in-between quite honestly. From your questions, I have a hard time believing you've read any book at all regarding this lifestyle. There are no grains at all on Paleo or Primal, nor are…

I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. In one of the many Paleo books I read, there is a link to Hashimoto's and gluten, which is why endocrinologists everywhere should be promoting a Paleo/Primal diet. As far as losing weight, I think you need to cut way back on your fruit intake. I typically will only do a single serving…

On that note, I'm ready to make this my lifestyle. I'm already in the mindset and am happily planning meals around it. Not only am I losing weight but I feel better. I don't have any tummy issues, have incredible energy and I know more now about diet than I've ever known. There's no turning back. I'm looking into it for my…

Thanks for the responses! I weighed myself again and I dropped the pounds I thought I had gained this week, so it must have been my monthly cycle and water weight just messing with me. I'll keep that in mind next month so I don't get so worried about it. As far as eating back the calories, I'll try that. I guess it's…

Thanks NatureMade...another book to add to my library. I hadn't gotten all the way through Cordain's first book, but gave it to a friend once I got my hands on the Primal Blueprint. I still have a lot to learn.

Yes, clean eating as far as Paleo is concerned includes no processed foods including grains (wheat, corn and anything similar to it), as well as beans and vegetable oils. I'm doing Primal eating, a different version of Paleo that allows for raw whole milk products for the probiotic and full fat effects. I don't know why…
