  • This is officially my fourth Whole 30. I track my food and weigh myself still. I like to track to make sure my macros are on target. I weigh because it keeps my spirits up.
  • Mark Sisson says to eat additional carbs as your body readily will use the carbs as energy in the luteal phase. I eat as much as I want according to my cravings during PMS, which typically includes lots of fat, protein, slow carbs especially from sweet potatoes, and some fruit nearly everyday. By the first day of starting…
  • Very interesting. Going to look up that program and check it out. I never have only 50 calories from fat though. Mine usually come in around 200-500 calories with my coffee. But maybe, just maybe, I'll try it again following that protocol.
  • Today is Day 4 for me and I feel great with no dietary issues or struggles to speak of. I've already dropped some 5 lbs or so this week, so says my scale, and I can also totally see it in my clothes. I thought it might be water weight but my underwear is looking too big for my body now. That means shopping for new pretty…
  • Where is this recipe? I must find it and make it pronto!
  • I agree with the sweet tubers/root vegetables comment. This was the biggest thing that got me through, plus an apple or a banana with some almond butter. But even with those, I was exhausted and cranky that first two weeks. Another really good one to help with sweet cravings is coconut butter. OMG...to die for!
  • Look up a doctor who specializes in Integrative Medicine. Call them and ask them directly if they prescribe Armour or any other natural thyroid medications. That's how I found my doctor. She's actually a nurse practioner as well but the doctor she works under is one of the only doctors who prescribes natural thyroid meds…
  • It's technically not fasting if one is consuming fats in the morning in the form of MCT, coconut oil, half & half, cream, etc. It should be considered fasting if ingesting less than 10 calories in the morning though (ie: black coffee with no cream). That being said, I don't fast, but drink my coffee with MCT and coconut…
  • 100-200% is not too much. There are some days where I get well over 700% because I eat sweet potatoes and squashes (soluble fiber). I wouldn't worry too much.
  • Strict Paleo at this time - Whole30/Paleo Autoimmune Protocol with an open diary. Feel free to peek and/or add me. I thought I could handle dairy doing Primal but having no allergies/wheezing is awesome. So I now do Paleo (no dairy). Disregard Monday as it was the day before my protocol started.
  • Primal is Paleo with occasional dairy. So all Paleo fare is included in Primal.
  • Welcome! Glad to have you aboard. Feel free to friend me if you have questions or want some insight. The best way to avoid hidden items in food is to shop the perimeter of the store. Are you doing a Whole30 program to kickstart your journey? If not, you can still try out Paleo/Primal without making it so difficult, at…
  • I agree with all of Debbylee's information regarding diet and weight loss. I started Paleo/Primal in January of this year and have since lost 40 lbs, most of it within 12 weeks. I am now in my normal weight range. I'm 5'10" and 153 lbs, so I really didn't have that much to lose. My ultimate goal weight is 140 with muscle,…
  • Join the Whole 30 for October group. Just do a search for the group.
  • During the first few days of my 3rd Whole30 attempt, I slept awful. I'd say it gets better within the first week or so. I slept like a baby last night. I didn't want to leave my bed this morning, but I woke up without any problems either. Your body will get used to it. Just stick it out and take it day by day.
  • Corn is not a vegetable. It's a grain.
  • My macros are set to 60% fat, 25% protein, and 15% carbs. On days/weeks where I eat higher fat, I lose even faster. Don't be afraid of fat, but pay more attention to getting close to your protein goals to maintain muscle mass, and keep your carbs and natural sugar consumption under control (<100 grams if trying to lose by…
  • Why not go see an Integrative Therapies doctor? That's what I use for treating my thyroid problems, as they are the only doctors in town who are open to the idea of treating with a natural dessicated pig thyroid, along with checking for mineral and vitamin deficiences, along with diet. Integrative Medical Doctors can treat…
  • I'm prepping this weekend by buying some bones from my local butcher for bone broths, stocking up on coconut milk, cleaning out the fridge so I have enough room for more veggies, and reading through a bunch of cookbooks for recipes that are friendly for me and my family so that I'm well prepared and don't cave this time. I…
  • Yep pretty dang difficult. Thanks for the support. The good thing about going all out, super strict this month, is that I'll never have to do it again if I choose not to. I'll know all of my triggers, even if they were mere suspects beforehand, and can permanently remove anything that remotely makes me feel bad. It doesn't…
  • I second Wellbert's idea regarding joining the specific group for Paleo/Primal peeps. Asking a question on the general forum boards is asking for 101 misinformed opinions on the topic at hand. The group, on the other hand, is highly responsive, researched on the subject, and supportive of its members.
  • Blinkinglight, I would love to be your buddy. I need accountability too. This Whole30 is going to be a much harder challenge for me this time as I'm taking out some really Paleo-friendly things like nuts, seeds, and ghee. These are like my lifeline.
  • Hi ladies, My name is Yvette and I've been doing Paleo/Primal for almost 10 months now, losing 40 lbs within the first 3-4 months. I'm currently working on body fat composition, as I'm in the healthy weight/BMI range. I've done the Whole30 a few times but the longest I've ever gone is 16 full days. I always falter and give…
  • I'm about halfway through the book (really slow reader) and I haven't gotten to that part about breakfast. I really love my coffee and do just fine without breakfast but today I noticed that I was getting a headache in a meeting I was in. As soon as I ate around 1:00 pm, I felt a lot better. So I might try the idea of…
  • I would love to do another Whole30 starting in October. Count me in! I'm actually going to be doing a modified version (much more strict) of the Whole30 for people with Autoimmune Disease (Hashimoto's). It includes the regular Whole30 fare, but excludes eggs, nuts, seeds and seed spices (mustard, cocoa, and coffee),…
  • I used to have cravings like this when I was addicted to sugar. I'm no longer addicted after avoiding it now for 9 months. My biggest go-to food when I'm craving sweets really bad are dark chocolate with sea salt (sea salt soiree), but for you I'd suggest that you stay strict for the next 30 days to kick your body's sugar…
  • My carb flu lasted almost two weeks, complete with fatigue, headaches and angry feelings. I got through it by snacking on apples or bananas with almond butter, and root vegetable soups (butternut squash soup with coconut milk) and root vegetables (squash and sweet potatoes). These food groups are higher in carbs and sugar,…
  • Great numbers and so glad you brought it back over to this thread too. I was once vegetarian as well for moral reasons, and just felt awful with no stamina. Sure, I lost weight but it's also the time that I developed an autoimmune disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I was 19 years old. People who don't know anything about…
  • Actually grass fed butter is considered Primal, not Paleo, since it does contain milk solids. Ghee or clarified butter is considered Paleo since the milk solids have been removed. One can definitely still make BP coffee if following Paleo by using ghee. It's not a lot of difference in taste really. When my Whole30 is done,…
  • I am doing a Whole30 challenge which excludes dairy altogether but I haven't found my face getting any clearer even after a few weeks of strict adherence. However, the other day I was reading a blog and somebody mentioned linoleic acid, as in Evening Primrose Oil, which is an Omega 6 fatty acid that people with acne are…
