  • It's a form of Paleo if you eat cheese and other full-fat dairy, and is called Primal. You should join us at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/54-primal-paleo-support-group.
  • Today I'm 156 lbs at 5'10"...yeah that's 6.6 lbs in a week with a whole body fat percentage point dropped, down to 24% :) And no it's not water weight as I've been eating this way since January 2012. The first 8 lbs in the first week eating this way was water weight. I'm a fat-burning machine running on 60% fat, 20% carbs,…
  • On the MDA site, he has a host of resources to pick from. It's a virtual library for Paleo/Primal living. I'd suggest that be your one go-to place to find new blogs and sites to get all sorts of information from. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/primal-resource-guide/#axzz20RAlScuP
  • I never thought about using bacon grease in my coffee. That is an interesting thought. If you do try it, let me know how it goes. I do, however, love me a good tall cup of bulletproof coffee. The big no-no is never to use salted butter though, just thought you might want to know that. Unsalted butter makes it…
  • Mine is at http://pinterest.com/cerebrus189/ and I regularly log recipes I find. I'll be sure to add you all to my list of friends :)
  • Yes coconut milk is absolutely delicious, full of fat, and is medium chain triglyceride (due to the coconut oil) which will boost your fat-burning power for the day. Protein shakes really kind of go against Paleo/Primal but if you must, choose coconut cream in the can. It can be found in the grocery store, in the asian…
  • I started Primal in January of this year and have since lost 36 lbs with some cheats along the way. Fortunately, I'm in a good spot right now and can speak on this. I have a low-functioning thyroid disorder called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. It directly affects my metabolism and as a result, I've struggled with dropping…
  • Down 6 lbs from Friday. I do Primal eating, so lots of fat, protein, veggies, some fruit and nuts. I've been drinking more water this week, as well as trying to walk more, and I think that's what has made a difference. I'm close to my ultimate goal with only 17 lbs left. I'm 5'10" and weigh 157 lbs at this point. At 140…
  • I don't know if your kids eat jalapenos since some can be spicy, but typically my kids too, spicy or not. If you do Primal, make some Jalapeno poppers with cream cheese (whole fat raw if you can find it) wrapped in bacon. These always go over really well with parties.
  • Maybe you should try Primal eating. I'm never hungry, eat roughly 1200-1400 calories a day and have lost a significant amount of weight in a short period of time. I exercise when I have time, not because I have to. Add me as a friend if you'd like to know more about it.
  • What did you the eat with the possibly-offending meat? It's much more common to have a wheat/soy/milk allergy than it is a meat allergy.
  • You look great! Congrats on meeting your goal! I'm inching my way towards goal, down 34 lbs with 19 left to go and been Primal for 6 months now. You'll have to tell me more about your thyroid issues and your situation with meds as I'm going through the same thing, trying to ditch them. My cholesterol was amazing the last…
  • Down 4 lbs since weigh-in last Friday. Watched my diet, as the weekends are a trigger point for me. I didn't do any exercise but I also didn't drink any alcohol.
  • I try to stay around 60 and am successful most days. Sometimes I take in less, and sometimes more. Like other posters have said, stick to lower glycemic fruit like melons and berries. I typically will only do a single serving of fruit a day, if at all as I'm not at goal just yet. Grapes, however, are the highest in sugar…
  • What do your macronutrient ratios look like? Are you eating enough fat? Your diary isn't open so I can't see precisely what you're eating. However, from what you describe as a typical day, i would ease off the nuts, nut butters and fruit from what you've described. I typically will have only a single serving of fruit a…
  • Current weight as of today is 163.4. Thanks for starting this group. I need a push.
  • Hi Elizabeth, I, too, have thyroid issues (Hashi's) and take synthetic thyroid to supplement. Since dropping over 30 lbs while doing Primal, my thyroid is out of whack and the dosage amount is a guessing game at this point. It definitely needs to be lower, but how much lower, my doctor isn't sure. Paleo/Primal is…
  • Feel free to add me. I've been doing this for over 6 months now and have been successful so far.
  • Great link! And thanks for calculating it for me.
  • My bad...I calculated it wrong. My equation should have been as follows: Total Cholesterol = 167 Triglycerides = 53 HDL = 57 So the formula for me is actually LDL= (167/1.19) + (53/1.9) - (57/1.1) - 38 LDL = 140.3 + 27.9 - 51.8 - 38 Use the PEMDAS rule taught in 3rd grade... New LDL = 78.4!! Now that's something to…
  • I'd always go by the lighter scale. :) I only use a single scale and it's not the one in our Nutrition office.
  • How can I argue with that? I don't know what I have to prove but I think somehow going dairy-free might make a difference in my skin and my weight loss. I figure that after 30 days without dairy, I can add it back in and see if it makes my stomach upset, my brain foggy, or anything like that. Argh! Amy, you're right about…
  • Sorry about the confusion. I'm Primal now and have been since January but I'm trying to go strict Paleo to see if cutting dairy helps with my overall health. I haven't been tested for food sensitivities but I'm willing to try an elimination diet first.
  • There are many people who claim to have hypothyroid symptoms with a normal TSH. Go to stopthethyroidmadness.com or check out Mary Shomon's About.com section on thyroid. She's written many books on the subject and is very aware of thyroid problems. Often times, it requires a full thyroid workup to get you the answers you…
  • They'll have the Android version of the FastPaleo app at the end of the summer. I just saw their FB post about it today.
  • There's some much anger coming from the vegans in the comments section of that article. It made me chuckle. I'd be pissed too if I couldn't support the findings with evidence, other than the debunked China study.
  • That sounds delicious. Gonna try this tomorrow morning for breakfast :)
  • I watched this two nights ago and I'm convinced that Monsanto is the devil. There are some huge ethical questions raised regarding trademarking life. It was absolutely atrocious, and to think that the FDA and other government organizations have a direct tie-in with this huge corporation just makes me sick to my stomach.
  • I totally have to watch it now.
  • AJWeekley, The Primal/Paleo diet does stress the importance of fruits and veggies, but it's emphasized that if trying to lose weight, limited fruit intake should be a consideration...one serving of fruit a day is sufficient IMO while I'm losing. However, when I get to maintenance, you bet your bottom I'm looking at those…
