This is such a great thread, thank you Dan. I think I get everything you've said and it is extremely helpful. Can anyone give me a bit more info for the obese. I notice in a lot of threads there is a suggestion that if you are very obese the "rules" may be slightly different. I don't suppose anyone can ellaborate on this a…

Could people may add start weight, weight lost and weight goals or something so we can see how successful the different methods have been? I've been on MFP since mid january 2012 I eat 1400 calories before excersize Genenerally I eat my excercise calories back (I do a little big of excersize each day to give me more to…

It's good that you are holding yourself accountable like this, hopefully it will help you stop. I've been getting a bit stressed lately and keep getting the overwhelming desire to just have a big ol' binge on comfort foods. So far I've either resisted by convincing myself that I will definitely only feel worse later or…

I tend to go for vodka and diet something (coke, red bull) or gin and diet tonic water. To be honest though either way if your talking night out with a few drinks there is no true low calorie way to do that. i've spent a long time in the gym today and still not quite earned back tonights drinking :ohwell:

I know the feeling, that is what i used to do with diets - do it for a bit, get bored, put the weight back on. I've found it helps me to think "i've just gone to all this effort; going to the gym, eating sensibly - if i quit now that will have been a waste of effort". That seems to keep me motivated. If you want feel free…

I watched it last night on iplayer following this thread and I found the same big intruiging. I watched it with my very skinny boyfriend and we were discussing it and I do eat a lot without really feeling full (at least not until a while after I've eaten) where as he will eat a bit (a lot less than me) and then not be able…

take it as a compliment :-) I think it's just a general nice thing to say in a gym, it doesn't mean your fat it just means he think everyone would like to hear that.

I used weight watchers back on the old plan a few years ago and I lost weight quite successfully but as people have said it can be quite a chore, especially trying to work out how many points something they don't have listed is. So for me it really felt like a diet and consumed a lot of my thoughts until eventually i gave…

i was pretty much going to say exactly this. I think you (or your friend) can identify yourself however you like. Although it is limited by others' understanding a little - a while of explaining that pansexual doesn't mean liking animals made me 'bisexual' instead or queer would work too. i'm happy being bisexual as it…

Thank you Rachcamp88 and Harebearva. It is good to know that at least it isn't just me and it's great to hear about the future when you reached your goal harebearva ( your before and after pictures are amazing by the way!). I have to admit I can't imagine being thin at the moment, I never have been, and I don't really feel…

Hi Meggiewes! I'd love to learn to knit, I started but struggled a bit and gave up...oh dear! What sort of things are you a geek about? If you want to message me and chat or add me feel free :) It's always helpful to know there are people out there in a similar boat.

Maybe you could log it and be extra good for the week so you know that come weigh in day you'll definitely be there if not surpassing your goal?
-
sorry no pics from me yet but this is a great idea for a post and would inspire me too so BUMP

i'm game :-) i'll add you all now x

I'm really not an expert but in my opinion that seems like a fairly sensible plan to take. Perhaps when you get to that weight you could see a doctor or someone to properly assess how healthy your weight is if you are still unhappy with how you look/feel at that weight. Generally BMI seems like a good rough indicator for…

Yeah I've got the android app and it does the same, that's what I use to help with weekly goals. I've never really tried to find the same thing on the website - if it's not a feature on the website it should be! I agree with many of the previous posters if it works for you doing it weekly then it is a good way to go over…

I'm liking this thread and all the recipes. Thinking about getting protein powder just to get that extra bit of protein I am lacking in my meals. Can anyone tell me the benefits of getting more protein in your diet though?

I don't know if there is a prescribed way you are meant to do it but generally I (and I've also picked sedentary as I've got a desk job) only log things that I do for excersize. So a long power walk, time in the gym, swimming, football etc. I only log things like shopping if it is for example an occasion where I walk into…

Hiya, I've been vegetarian for a couple of years now but only on MFP for a couple of months. Very happy with both  Feel free to add me if you'd like to share support. x

Bump - i'd like to know more about this too

Many of the things people have already mentioned motivate me - feeling confident (including, if not especially, when naked), getting into some nice clothes I have that no longer fit and being better at sports is a good aim for me. Also though thinking about what I've done already motivates me. Like giving up now after all…

Yeah a lot of people have said they wish they'd taken more pictures, especially at the start. I don't like pictures :grumble: but I shall have to force myself I think as that would be a great way to motivate myself. Thanks for the tips!
-
Hmm that is a good point. A bit depressing as I often knock of some calories burnt from excersizes incase there are inaccuracies so knocking off more leaves me with even more work to do! What about machines at the gym then? How would you know which was being calculated?
-
Does anyone know does this apply more to people on the thinner side? I'm thinking about starting weight training but as I'm currently still obese I doubt I'll see much muscle so it will be hard to distinguish this from weight gain through fat. But as I am bigger anyway is it more likely it would just help my…

I let it all hang out, seems more honest  but your right it's not clear how you're meant to do it . You may already know this but I only just worked this out - you can change the things you're measuring when you go to the weigh in, measurements page you can click change measurements and add as many and whatever you…

Thanks  I certainly have more than a few pounds to lose and fat everywhere! As long as I'm still progressing then that is good
-
I weigh every morning because I like to see the progress (the temptation is too great!) but I only record a lower weight if I've been that weight or below on 3 consecutive days to try and allow for fluctuations. Perhaps not hugely scientific but it keeps me motivated and accounts for some daily fluctuations.

That's great advice thank you  Do you measure yourself in places like wrists or can you just see it? I think I'm a bit too unobservant when it comes to my appearance. I hope I get amazing calves like you, there are so many lovely boots out there but so few that I can squeeze my calves into!
-
Thanks for the advice. Recently I've been quite up and down from trying to incorporate big things like birthday meals but normally it's a bit over one day a bit under another. I never really feel starved as it's usually just not eating back excersize calories. I'll try and increase my excersize more towards the end of the…

I've taken to following a weekly calorie goal (so just my daily allowance x 7) and then I'm super good and do lots of excersize during the week and then at the weekend even though I may be in the red on my daily calorie goal I know that overall for the week I haven't gone over. It seems to be working for me so far and it…
