Are you having a stroke?

Are you by any chance talking about the Topanga Turkey Trot? That's a tough race, though they have a great pancake breakfast. You got good advice above. Trail running is a totally different beast from road running. If you really want to crack the hour mark, its good to tuck in behind others running your pace, then take…

OP, where is the Chipotle where they give you 2x the normal serving size? I need to know in order to g̶e̶t̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶b̶u̶r̶r̶i̶t̶o̶ ̶o̶n̶ protest its existence.

I am shocked. SHOCKED to learn that different countries do things in different ways.

OP, the placement of the pain doesn't sound like PF, which is, as someone said, typically inside the foot in the arch or heel. Its difficult to say, but how are you lacing your shoes? It could be too tight, or if you got shoes in the size you normally wear, you might need to go a size up. Also, it could be the switch from…

If my elbow hurts in the morning, is it also PF?
-
Exactly. Sitting on the couch all day? A Snickers bar and a Coke is not the best choice. Running an ultra? Best thing you could do for yourself. The food isn't good or bad, its just a collection of nutrients that is a good or bad choice depending on the situation.

Yes...what? Nevermind that if the race is long enough...you do keep it up for breakfast, lunch and dinner (plus midnight snack, 3amsies, breakfast again, lunch again, and another dinner). Who ever said you should eat nothing but gummy bears all the time in everyday life?
-
I feel like a lot of the people here would have an exploded head if they saw the offerings at an ultra marathon aid station. Gummy bears, pizza, REAL DEVIL COCA-COLA. And we all know how fat and out of shape ultra marathoners are.

Sorry to hear about the medical troubles. That is a rough deal. Its important to listen to what your doctors say about exercise right now, and not overtax your body, which is dealing with a lot. That being said, if they clear you to start running, go slow, don't try to do too much. If you start to get too tired, back off…

In the time this thread has been up, I've actually become an ultra runner
-
Not all runs are going to be a PR (nor should they be). Sometimes, you just have an off day. Happens to all of us. Don't sweat it, just get back into your regular routine.
-
And this... is why you shouldn't take nutritional advice from PTs.

True story. I've died. Twice. Anyway, I am a baby ultra runner, only a few races, but I find that I recover more quickly from a 50k trail race than I do from a fast road marathon. Even with the brutal elevation gains, the softer surface and slower pace means less wear and tear. As far as fitness, it all depends what you…

You'll get a lot of different backgrounds here, When I was in track in high school, well, i don't remember my times, but fast I guess. When I decided to run a marathon? 9-10 min miles When I decided to get serious about the ball game? Paces split depending on workouts. About 8:10-8:20 for long runs, 8:30-9 for recovery…

Things that have always helped me: 1) embrace the suck - acknowledge that you will be out there for some time, then stop worrying about what you have to do after, or concentrating on how loooooong the run seems. Just say "yup, I'm going to be here for a while, and its not going to pleasant the whole time". I find if I can…

Ditch the treadmill and try. Maybe you like it, maybe you don't. Give yourself a goal of completing a 5k, and permission to stop after if you hate it, but get to that goal first. You may dislike running, then find race day absolutely addicting. Or you may love being outside, but feel too penned in while at the race. Just…

core exercises are good, but if its your upper back, you could be tensing your shoulders and arms too much as you run. Make an effort to keep them loose at your sides. Also, keep your arms going forward, instead of twisting them across your body. The forward motion makes it easier to breathe, and prevents you for torquing…

Its hard to tell without an open diary, but I'm guessing at that low calorie level, you have probably not met your macros for the day. Check out what you're low on. Fat and carbs? Up it to real ice cream. Protein and fat? Cheese or the like. The idea of IFFYM is not to eat whatever you want. It just means that once you…

My impression of this thread: "Why won't these ignorant fat sloth people leave me alone and respect my right to be better than them???? WHY?????? /pounds cider and chips"

Maybe I'm into that, as much as I am into abs.

There's a lot of good and bad on here. Its actually on the tamer side for forums, so long as you keep your sense of humor in tact. And I actually have made real friends that I have met in real life here. There are also people who are just on my FL because I like seeing their workouts, or they asked me a question or…

Issues. You haz them.

Yup. Running shoes are not a one-size-fits-all thing. I started running long distance in minimalist shoes. They gave me tendonitis. I moved to stability shoes about 5 years ago, got properly fitted, and have not had a running-related injury since. I get re-fitted from time to time, and change shoes depending on goals…

Quite honestly, the whole 'changing your gait' thing could be complete overkill. Its very vogue right now, but that doesn't mean its the right thing to do. HIs gait might be fine, you can't tell over the internet. First, change out the crappy shoes. Overhauling your gait in this situation is like buying a new car because…

this is true. You can often find last year's model/colors for significantly less. However, new running shoes are usually around 100$. You can pay 100$ for a shoe and still have it be the wrong one. You can also pay 30$ for the wrong one. If you were fitted and they suggested a shoe to you, its good form to buy it the first…
