  • How does IT work and WHY is it healthy?
  • The study was on the normal populace. So on athletes, even more.
  • Biggest question - why are you working out 3 times a day?
  • Too low salt actually increases mortality rates... In the study, published in the May 4, 2011, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), European researchers followed 3,681 men and women for an average of about eight years. They report that people with the lowest levels of sodium in their urine (a…
  • Frozen from Asda are £2 for 500g. Easy and just as good :o))
  • So only obese people have these issues? Bull. Take some acceptance you have caused your level of weight. Whatever that is. You can only blame your parents for so long. You move out, you grow up. Are you parents still to blame, 5, 10, 15, 20 years later? WE ALL KNOW WHAT IS HEALTHY. We all know that if you eat a diet mainly…
  • Decent shrimp is £18 a kg, more than my rump steak - I prefer rump steak
  • Exactly. Peanuts, dairy, fruit etc all make people bloat up too - should they be called out as bad too?
  • Bodybuilders etc In a review of 41 studies examining the purported adverse affects of high protein diets in athletes, it was noted that protein intakes of 2.8g/kg did not impair kidney function in the short term (Manninen 2004). In an even more comprehensive review of 111 studies, specifically looking at protein intake and…
  • Fluoride is actually bad for you funnily enough. Causes GI distress in large enough amounts.
  • So many conflicting studies? I'd like to see ONE with direct correlation between sweeteners and any form of cancer in HUMANS (i'm not a mouse, never have been a mouse and never will be a mouse). Go!
  • A plastic layer that burns energy? Interesting.. It drops water, in a temp manner. Not fat loss at all. Temp at best.
  • This thread is full of semantics - you don't need a BMI scale to see when someone is overweight/obese. In my lifetime it has gone from the odd person I remember being over weight, to nearly half of the people I see. Heck in the school yard there was usually just one or two overweight kids. Now you you go in and there is…
  • 33 cans of diet cokes worth a day for a very very long time. I'm also not a mouse, never will be a mouse and none of my friends or family have either. I don't have the hormonal system of a mouse, nor do I have the same diet, with the same macros. Nor do I have the same body composition of a mouse, the same levels of…
  • Your kidneys cleanse the body. H20 is just that. Water. Next.
  • Interesting that I posted actual multiple studies, some of them meta analysis IIRC, and its ignore. Unless you have a renal problem, you are going to struggle to damage yourself with protein. Its MUCH more likely you'll damage yourself with carbs and getting obese but clearly those few with renal issues is much bigger…
  • Studies on protein? Try looking at a few of these: "In a review of 41 studies examining the purported adverse affects of high protein diets in athletes, it was noted that protein intakes of 2.8g/kg did not impair kidney function in the short term (Manninen 2004). In an even more comprehensive review of 111 studies,…
  • have 5-6 meals with 35-40g of protein in them. Very easily done. I normally have 6-7 meals with 50-60g per meal. Again, easily done.
  • Meh, 2011 study showed unless in high risk cases, lower salt actually increased the chance of death. As anyone who works out, you need plenty of salt.
  • I'm certain I'm more jacked than your son (the pic in my avi is me) and I use ON or The Protein Works. Does this mean one should use ON or The Protein Works then?
  • Picture of how you want to look on the fridge and don't have any junk you can binge on in it, just healthy foods.
  • Any whey protein that is mainly protein and few carbs, is fine. Musclemilk is quite high in carbs. Given a choice, perhaps Optimum Nutrition is a better choice in a similar price bracket.
  • Funnily enough many EFAs actually help you burn fat...
  • ^^^ Makes sense because (please correct me if I'm wrong) that fat cells are laid down during adolescence - more fat cells around the body, more fat cells to fill.
  • Simple answer? Start at 1600 calories for a couple of weeks. See if you lose fat. If weight maintains, drop a hundred. Repeat for another week or two. Repeat until you are dropping weight as required. Personally? I'd advise aimin for 1lb a week as its much more likely to be fat and less likely to be lean body mass. Faster…
  • Sorry reread the 1500 being total. Short term I can't see much of a problem (eg a few weeks, if you have the body fat level to supply the energy). Doing that long term (more than a few weeks), I would certainly advise upping the calories, maybe towards 1000-1500. Even at 2800 calories IF you are burning 3800 (most people…
  • Wow, you can surmise that from this post? Surely if she had any worries about milk production and child care she would stop? She didn't ask for your opinion on baby rearing, she asked for diet/training specific help. If she is in good health, has no issues and same for the baby, there is no need for this unrequited and…
  • OK - this isn't a study as I know any study I post will be picked apart and not seen for what it is. I start with a chap I consider very highly, ERIK LEDIN, he's always to the point and honest. He trains normal every day folk and also IFBB Pro's etc. This is his views on metabolic damage caused by dieting hard for too…
  • Interesting that the fat gene et al all suddenly appeared in the last 50 years. The main issue is we are eating more, moving less. Its simply an energy in, energy out equation. Even if you ate the same as 5 years ago, but moved around less now, that may be the reason you gain weight. I know previous ex's from the distance…
  • The protein works each and every time. Fantastically flavoured and cheap. Best tasting brand I've used in a long long time and protein content is 80% with only 2g carbs per serving (if thats important to you). www.theproteinworks.com They do run a referral scheme where you get some free whey if I refer you, drop me a PM if…
