I've always heard you can't lose weight in specific spots--you have to lose the fat first, and if the love handle area happens to be where you gain weight, it'll probably be the last to go. However, you can probably tone the area up somewhat doing the suggestions listed above.

Thanks so much for this story! What an inspiration! Your goals are TOTALLY my goals!!! :) And you're quite the funny writer, too! :) I just started a couch to 5k in 6 weeks (May 2nd) and today was my first 1 mile run--I was so pleased that I ran the whole thing. Okay, granted, it was a pretty slow jog, but I didn't need to…

Hello, hello. As you can all see from my weight-loss ticker, I've lost nada as far as weight goes. My stomach is somewhat flatter (due to cutting out a lot of caffiene/pop) and I can see/feel my quads are growing stronger too. However, I've run into a small but frustrating problem--my butt is getting bigger and so are my…

This is a good question. I'm struggling with inner thighs, too. So your're not alone! :) I do a zillion lunges a day (forward, side, walking, and some jumping ones) and my butt is starting to look good, but it's not doing jack for my thigh issue. I think I'll have to try the squats or break out my seriously old Claudia…

Definitely make sure you aren't cutting calories too much if you are breastfeeding. Also, take one nap with her (if you're home during the day). Finally, if the weather is nice, pop the little darling into the stroller and just GO! Even if you aren't going very fast at first, you're still moving. The bonus is, you'll have…

Well, I hate running, but I'm going to be working on a couch to 5k program here so I can do it with my sister in May. My reasons? Totally superficial. #1. johnblake is right--it's hands down the fastest way to lose weight. I ran everyday one summer that I was under-employed for something cheap to do and I was SO SKINNY, it…

I've noticed this, too. Even on days I workout about 2 hours, I still rarely go over the 400-500 calorie mark, and I'm half dead at that point (of course, I'm on my own, no gym, so maybe that makes a difference?) But I'd still like to hear what people are doing that is making them burn 1200 cals at a time! Good question!

Okay, this might sound weird, but do you have troubles with motion sickness? What about heights? Because the movement is so odd, and on a lot of ellipticals, you're up fairly high (3 feet or so off the ground), it could be throwing your balance off, making you feel weird and lightheaded. OR---it could just be that despite…

The hubs and I totally adore Paula Deen. If we ever go to GA, I'm totally going to her restaurant and gaining 10 pounds in one day! :) I'm a big fan of Ace of Cakes, too, because cake is awesome in so many ways. I like to watch the challenges. Throwdown with Bobby Flay can be all right, but it's not my fav. Diners,…

Thanks--I feel like a total dork--such a simple fix but for some reason, I wasn't seeing it. I kept looking in the hotmail toolbar, not the actual internet tools. DURH!! THANKS!
-
Hi guys, I have a really dumb question that I can't figure out. I bumped some key on my keyboard while I was in hotmail and now everything is in HUGE letters. Like, HUGE. Like, with a magnifying glass. I can't figure out how to make the inbox and new messages smaller again. Gaaackkk!!! Such a stupid, simple problem and I…

I wanted the Blue team to win, too! I think that Felipe definitely needs his butt kicked. WHAT A WHINER! If he was mad Jillian didn't come over and train him, maybe he should have said something that day. I'm sorry, but they all made their own beds as far as the weigh-in. Sheesh. I don't really have any favorites, as I…

My sister has been an avid exerciser and fitness buff (in HS, she dated the star quarterback and they'd go lift weights for a DATE!!), and she has convinced me to run a 5k with her in about 8 weeks. So thanks, jessmomof3, because I just printed out a 5 week training program!! Good luck with your running, beautifullyjaded!…

In college, my roommates and I often would take the stairs. We figured it was a way to counteract our weekend binging on food and drinks. . . and we did live on the 8th floor. I wish we had big hills around here or stairs so I could do this too! Our stairway, you have to duck, and I can imagine myself attempting to behead…

I spend every year gaining and losing the same 20 pounds. However, I keep trying, because I KNOW in my heart that I can keep it off. Just keep trying! Good luck!

Do you have old knee injuries? Previous history of knee pain? If not, what about recent exercise? Did you jump right into this DVD without having exercised in the last few months? All of this needs to be taken into consideration before you make a decision to continue or not. Personally, I'd do a day of rest followed by 2-3…

I second the Lofthouse Frosted Sugar Cookies. They are bakery goodness found at your local supermarket for a low price. They are responsible for at least 5-7 of my pounds that need to come off!!! Other items: *Soda (usually Diet Dr. Pepper/Dr Pepper) but really, any kind *Frosted cake (homemade or storebought) *Tortilla…

There was a short-lived weight loss television show called I Can Make You Thin and one of the tips recommended on the program was to put your fork (or spoon) down between every single bite. This helps you eat slower and really enjoy your food, instead of just shoveling it in. HTH!

I have this DVD, it's fabulous. I totally credit it with helping me lose 20 pounds last year. And my abs looked smaller than they ever have before. Personally, I think Jillian's section is super hard. Those up-downs (burbies or burpies or whatever they are called) with the standing mountain climbers KILL ME every time,…

Wow, looks like I'm not alone in this! I am going to try to make my own chips using pita bread and tortillas. I might also try portioning out the chips, but that may not work so well unless the hubs is here and can "hide" the rest from me! Thanks for the tips guys, keep them coming! :)

Hi all, I'm a huge fan of salsa. Which is pretty good for you, esp. if you make or buy freshly made stuff. However, I have a really hard time eating it without the 'crunch' of potato chips. I have tried the whole low-fat tortilla chips thing, but it doesn't matter when you can eat the whole bag. . . :embarassed: . . . in…

Thank you all for the support! I really appreciate it! I have started working out, so hopefully that will show in a month or so. It's just getting past the first month that is so hard! Oh, and my MFP goals are 1.6 pounds a week, but frankly, I'd be happy with even just 1/2 a pound these first couple weeks! I appreciate…
-
I told myself that I wouldn't weigh myself until I finished 2 full weeks on MFP, especially because I'm not used to calorie counting at all and am having trouble not going over. I also know that I'm a "slow" starter when it comes to weight loss--I'll work out for 6 weeks with no visible changes and then BAM! everything is…

A friend of mine and I came up with a little theory. When you just start trying to lose weight, weigh yourself LESS often, so you don't get discouraged that you aren't losing enough at a time/losing fast enough. BUT, once you get down to about your half-way point, you should weigh yourself more like 2x a week or more, so…

ITA about Tom Cruise. In fact, I don't watch any of his movies these days on that principle alone. The whole Brooke Shields stuff, turning Katie into a basic ghost of her former self, flipping on Matt Lauer. . . it would take a LOT to redeem him in my eyes, if it's even possible. And, ITA about Angelina Jolie and Brad…

Just do it. Seriously. If you don't, you're going to feel even worse in just another couple of weeks. I lost 20 pounds last year and basically dropped all my workouts from October-end of February. . .what do you know, all 20 pounds PLUS another 3 crept back on. When I was working out, I could eat more and maintain. . . .…

My happy weight is supposedly 133. Um, I haven't seen below 150 since I was about 14, and even when I worked out 7 days a week before my wedding, I only got down to 150. And that was pre-baby, with a fitness pass and major motivation. For me personally--my happy weight is 150. PERIOD. I don't care what those calculators…

Have you tried eating some air-popped popcorn? The poppers are pretty cheap. Just spritz one or two sprays of one of the fat-free margarine replacements if you can't stand it plain. It's pretty low-cal and virtually no fat, and it allows the "hand to mouth" feeling. This is what my MIL does and it really helps her maintain…

My hubby does the same thing. He refuses to eat healthy (and I refuse to be his "mommy" and force him to eat well), so when I'm dieting, it's a real struggle. He has a naturally fast metabolism and works on his feet all day long, whereas I work at a desk and have always been "chubby." I have no advice, but I definitely…

I know exactly what you mean! My eyes look huge when my weight is down, but when my weight is up--they look squinty and small. Good job! :)
