I was also struck by one of the comments on the Yahoo article. The comment was that only 1% of the people in the world can deadlift 400 pounds. I would think the number is higher than 1% but maybe I'm wrong. BTW, I use straps. Deadlifts rip the heck out of my hands.

It doesn't seem to be bad for this dude at my gym who works out 7 days a week, twice a day. As far as I know, he's not a pro bodybuilder or fitness professional but he has an awesome build. I think he's in his 40's or 50's. His workouts seem to last around an hour. I don't remember seeing him doing cardio and I haven't…

1. I work out about 1 1/2 to 2 hours after dinner. 2. Swimming would be the least weight bearing if you have access to a pool. If not, you can still lose weight or maintain weight by eating at a deficit. 3. Pet food. Otherwise, everything in moderation. Denial makes it harder to stay on the wagon. 4. I set MFP to 1/2 a…

I'm up for some fun and I'm pretty difficult to shock or offend. Feel free to add me.

After reading the article, I'm thinking the person in charge of the label could have typed the wrong number. It's good to see a group like Consumer Reports catch this mistake. I hope no diabetics were harmed by this error.

Three things really help me to stay motivated. 1. Fear of becoming diabetic. I really don't want to have to poke my fingers every day. 2. I joined a great gym. I also started working out without music so I could make some friends and give myself another reason to look forward to going to the gym. 3. Having friends on MFP…

If you want to change over to a particular industry or company, a good way to network would be to join a Toastmasters group related to that industry or company. The public speaking part is scary for some, but a lot of networking takes place in Toastmasters and I've personally helped someone get a job at a company that a…

Huff on Showtime. The show was cancelled after just 2 seasons. The final episode was a major cliff hanger with many unresolved issues. The stars of the show were Hank Azaria and Oliver Platt. During it's 2 year run, it received 10 Emmy nominations and won 3.

Raider fan since 76. Brutal schedule this year. Not expecting more than 6 wins.

I have to go with the originals when it comes to Hip-Hop. Kurtis Blow, Ice T, Run DMC, Kool Moe Dee, LL Cool J, Boogie Down Productions, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, and Africa Bambataa. I lost interest when people like Vanilla Ice and Puff Daddy just talked over other artist's records. It's ironic that Hip-Hop started as…

Thank you for sharing. Glad you're on the right path. Keep logging every day and building your log in streak.

I would assume the heart monitor is more accurate since it tracks your heart rate and the Nike band just tracks movement. Monitors need your correct measurements to be more precise. As you lose weight, the monitor should be updated. As you get lighter and more fit, it takes more exercise to burn calories. The zones will…

Since the phone app has weekly totals, I'm more focused on having good weeks with a lesser emphasis on each day. This gives me a little more freedom and it's been pretty easy to maintain. Working out regularly helps too. Best wishes!

As long as you feel good and you're doing what you want, keep doing it. Friends and family can often be the hardest part about losing weight. Sometimes you just have to ignore them and keep pressing on.

Thank you for this post and for your service as a Marine.

I recommend starting with some simple body weight calisthenics, like the table pushups, jumping jacks, sit-ups and deep knee bends. With the pushups, work toward 20 reps, then see if you can do 10 knee pushups. Work up to 25 or 30 knee pushups, and start working on planks. Once you can do 25 or 30 knee pushups and a one…

Thank you for building this and sharing. I'm a fellow Excel geek and it looks like you put quite a bit of work into this.

Guns 'N Roses back in 92 or 93 at the LA Forum. Skid Row opened and played a great set. Then we sat and waited for over 2 hours for Guns to finally take the stage. When they finally decided to play, they played slow and draggy and seemed to have this attitude of f*** you if you don't like it. We didn't even stay for the…

OP, here's a helpful link. In a nutshell, fat is excreted through sweat and breathing, so you weren't far off on your guess. http://www.livestrong.com/article/34745-body-excrete-fat/

I'm like you Corvus, I like to be rewarded when I work out. I eat my exercise calories. I do legs on Sundays and I found out I need to overeat on those days or else I'm too depleted. I use MFP's estimates for calories burned. I've used a heart monitor from time to time and MFP's estimates are close enough. I'm trying to…

Depending on how advanced you want to get, you can vary exercises, weight, sets, reps and rest time. I recommend Stack.com and the Men's Health websites for further research.
-
I sure wouldn't mind being able to exercise for hours and not be hungry afterwards.

I eat about 6 times a day. Please feel free to check out my diary. I eat the same breakfast lunch and daytime snacks every week day. My daytime snack is 2 meals. Half of a muscle milk around 10 and the other half around 4. I like eating this way.

Weightlifting definitely stimulates the appetite. You're young and playing a sport, so you need a lot of calories. This app can help you figure out how many calories you need daily. I recommend you set your goal to maintenance and log consistently for 2-3 weeks with weekly weigh-ins. If you gain weight, cut back a little…

One thing I didn't see mentioned is protein consumption. Extra protein can help mitigate some soreness. I would start at a gram per pound of lean body mass, then try 1.25, 1.5 etc. Extra water consumption should go along with the additional protein. I have to overeat on leg day or else I'm too depleted. Another thing OP…

I moved from GA to CA when I was 10. I went back to visit Atlanta 7 years later and it was too slow for me because I had gotten used to California. Most of the people in Atlanta got kind of excited when I told them I was from California. Good luck!
-
Hi mr_mitch! I have a couple of friends across the pond. I hope to cross the Atlantic one day. I'm sending a friend request.
