lol, the comparison isn't even close. I"ve birthed two babies and run two marathons (so far) and the marathon is like a 5 month long labor (as mental strength is needed the entire training cycle to stay committed) with no cute little baby to push you through to the end. Running mental strength is earned on the road. As…

woot woot!! Congrat's!!! Accomplished goals feel great! That sub30 5k is going to be smashed this weekend!

lol

+1, very very good advice here, as always Carson

Let me quote my very first post today. I think I knew better than to offer my advice (and yes, I did share my experience, right there in the second paragraph) as the OP didn't seem to want to hear those before me, but thought I'd share my advice as well and hope some of it helped her. Lesson learned perhaps!:)
-
All I can say is good luck then! I wish you the best and hope it all goes well for you!:)
-
Yes, I think that's what the OP took it to mean, which was incorrect. The OP said this is a quote from the London site. What I understand it to mean is that you'll know from your marathon training if you're really ready for marathon race day if a month before the race, if you can run 15 miles, then you'll be ready for 26.2…
-
My post saying "coach to marathon in 17 weeks" was in jest, I know you didn't mean that, so sorry that tone can't come across on message boards, that's unfortunate. I was saying it doesn't seem like you're taking the base needed before training starts is being taken seriously, from posts of yours like this. You just say…
-
You actually misread this quote from the London Marathon site. This is saying if you can't run 15 miles at one time a month before the race, then you won't be able to run 26.2 on race day. Not run 15 miles a month before starting training.
-
This is your first post. You asked us for our advice and specifically on your training. That's all we've tried to give you. I really do hope you've found some of it helpful!
-
I'm so sorry that you don't like the advice you're being given, and I'm sorry you see advice as not being supportive. That's no ones intention at all, we're all experienced runners trying to offer our advice given the fact we've done it and have been immersed in the running community for years. I think it's hard for some…
-
Also, I think it would help to know how far you went and what your time was today. That gives an good indication of where you're starting from.
-
The running community isn't negative at all, we're all very supportive. We want you to have a good experience and get to the starting line injury free. It seems as though what everyone has said here has now convinced you to move your goal from April 2015 to fall 2015, and that's a great thing. Everyone wants what's best…
-
+1 And "10k comfortably" would mean a 10k in roughly an hour.
-
I just checked out London Marathon's 17 week "beginner" program. It has you running roughly 4 mile long run in week 1, and 20 mile long run in week 13. Wow. Good luck with that. As we have said, you aren't really looking for experienced runner advice. You are grasping at straws to find anything that will support what you…

A fall 2015 marathon is a much more reasonable goal! And as I said, planning to run half and walk half will still be difficult and you'd likely have trouble with time cutoffs. It would be much more doable to check out the Galloway plan and do a run/walk interval from the beginning, than running until you can't anymore.…

Just google boston marathon live coverage. There are a few places live streaming it, I might be on the BAA's link, I can't remember, or I might be on local Boston tv channel.
-
I think you're a bit confused. YES, a training plan is about 16-20 weeks long. But you need to ARRIVE at week 1 with a good running base (which i will argue is 25 miles per week for a year). Not arrive to week 1 being able to run/walk through a 5k in 50 mins. YES, you can still possibly do it. But it will hurt, and you'll…
-
I'm almost afraid to post, as it seems you really only want encouragement to do it, and aren't really listening to the advice of experienced runners that are worried for you. Carson has given you fantastic advice, go back and reread every one of his posts. Your REASON for doing it is the only thing that is keeping me from…

Yes! Live streaming while I work:)

I'm a runner! I've run on and off for about 12 years, been running consistently for about 3.5 years and have completed 10 half marathons and 2 marathons (lost track of the 5k's). I have 4 more half marathons this spring and my next marathon is in October. I could talk running 24/7, I listen to dozens of running podcasts…

After one week of doing Jillian DVD's (1x/day 6 days a week) plus my normal runs (6x's/week), I lost 0.7 pounds and 2.75" (1.5 from my waist alone). As I haven't done strength training very consistently in a few years, I think my muscles are likely retaining some water, so hoping the lbs drop quicker after the first few…

The course is accurate, if you run the tangents. That's how the courses are measured. No normal recreational runner is doing that though, we're swerving to get around people, to go to the side at aid stations, drifting left and right a bit, so that's why we end up with 26.4 and not 26.2 for example. The course is accurate,…
-
How does your running club give you the route? Ours puts them out on mapmyrun and I can send it to my cell phone...then if I get lost, I just open the app and that route/course and it'll show me where I am in relation to the course. I suppose you could just run that course with the app going, but I don't since I run with…
-
No app will be accurate, it'll be kind of close. The gps in cell phones isn't designed to work in that way and it will always overestimate your distance (so it will say 1.0 mile when you've really gone say 0.93). If you want accuracy, you need to invest in a gps watch like a Garmin.
-
Others will have better advice than me, but seems like your routine is cardio heavy, which is more for fat blasting and cardiovascular endurance/health and not creating the toned look it sounds like you're going for. Also, sounds like you could be a little protein light in your diet, since that is needed for building…
-
The Garmin is the most accurate device you can have. The gps in your cell was not designed to work as you're using it, but works "ok" if that's all you have. I'm not sure what you're comparing the "actual" to be with Garmin, but the Garmin should likely be the measuring stick and if you're using mapmyrun or something, it…

As a fellow runner, this is fabulous advice for a beginner! I seriously lol'd at "you have an opinion on socks, congrats, you're a runner". We all know swiftwick vibes are the best, right?;)
-
I did level 1 yesterday for the first time! (I'm just mixing up a bunch of her diff dvd's, not doing only 1 for a month). I kept hearing about running man, but it was the easiest thing I did, being a runner!:) I'll take that over push ups anyday! I'm still on my knees for pushups, I'll get back to the full ones soon!
-
That's what I've done, I log each video under it's own title, but I'm anal like that;) Helps me keep track of which ones I've done on which days since I just mix them up based on what I feel like doing.
