  • That is just MFP telling you what you will weigh in 5 weeks if you eat the same amount of calories that you ate today each day for the next five weeks. If you are over maintenance, the number will be higher than your current weight. If you eat in a deficit, the weight will be lower than your current weight.

  • I think most digital scales have tare function. Not always a separate button, sometimes just pressing the on off button a second time after putting something on the scale. I got my scale at Aldi, it was $10, but they only sell them as a special buy at certain times. It has different functions, grams, ounces and two others…
  • I agree with @earlnabby . They key is to drink a lot of water. You will find that weight loss is not linear. The whoosh effect is real. I have read articles about this, as your body burns fat cells it replaces those cells with water. At some time when your body realizes it doesn't need that water any longer it will release…
  • I would just estimate the chicken wings to be about 100 calories each (either the drummet or the flapper). Calorie counting is usually a close estimate anyway.
  • You really should be adjusting your weekly weight loss targets down as you lose weight. In reality, your weight loss shouldn't slow if you continue to update your caloric goal based on whatever you had it previously set to. If you don't lower it as you lose wieght, your loss will slow since your deficit is not as high. As…
  • You need to get on a structured weight training program. Not your own type of weight training. Home created workouts usually don't work very well if you don't really understand how everything should work. You can find many structured workouts that are put together by the experts. Check out this link.…
  • There could perhaps be some truth to completely raw. It seems that cooking food may perhaps change the way your body metabolizes it. Cooking food perhaps increases the amount of digestible calories. The three basic macros of counting calories seems obsolete. Not saying it doesn't work, but perhaps there is now a better…
  • There are 26 weeks left in the year, but you certainly won't be able to continue to lose at a 2lb per week clip all the way through. As you get closer to your target weight, your losses will slow.
  • Not trying to hate, but it should be clear to any newbs, if you have no previous training prior to the 12 weeks, you certainly won't get the same results that the OP got in 12 weeks. You will never get bulk of that size in 12 weeks, especially in a deficit. The OP certainly has a lot more training behind them than the 12…
  • I am curious if your BF was really as high as 25% when you started the cut? According to the chart below, it would take about 35 weeks to cut from 25% down to 8% BF. Looking at the before photo, were you closer to 17-18%. https://www.muscleforlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/mlf-six-pack-chart.png Source:…
  • I suspect genetics also have a lot to do with it. If you ain't got it, no amount of work will get it. Thus why some people pay for implants.

  • Also, unless you have an early morning appointment with the Dr, there are other problems with the weight measured there. Additional food in the stomach and as you sleep you lose a lot of weight just by breathing with no fluid intake. After being up and moving and drinking and eating, you will probably weigh a few lbs more…
  • I always get a kick out of the term "hen egg". I think it is safe to say that whenever someone says just "egg" that is is from a hen (chicken). You only need to use something before the word "egg" if you are referring to an egg from another source, such as a quail egg. I have actually seen the term "hen egg" on restaurant…
  • If you haven't readjusted your caloric intake down to account for your now lower weight, you could be eating closer to maintenance. Plateaus are usually caused by either not reducing caloric intake to account for your lower weight or not being accurate with what you are eating.
  • The OP adjusted the calorie counts based on the serving size. So they are comparing apples to apples. I can't explain the difference.
  • I just started lifting 14 weeks ago. I am new to planks this month after picking up The New Rules of Lifting for Abs. There are some great progressive plank exercises in there so one is not just doing the same plank just for longer and longer or more and more sets. I am still just on the regular and side planks for one of…
  • I cut soda out cold turkey about 5 years ago. I still have the occasional one on a special occasion like a holiday or about a 1/4 glass every now and then, but for the most part I am 100% water. I don't drink coffee or tea. I used to be able to drink a 2L of Pepsi or just about any other soda in a single day. I could also…
  • Do you currently lift weights? Body composition is probably more of a concern than the actual number. Start lifting and you should start noticing a difference in how you look.
  • Have you calculated your TDEE? What does MFP tell you for your calories to lose your desired amount per week? You can set up MFP for IIFYM by overriding the percentages for each macro accordingly. Your calories should be the same regardless and it is your individual macros that are adjusted based on expected calorie…
  • Moving and continuing the routine will make the soreness subside. Don't skip workouts because of soreness. I have read that segmenting body areas is perhaps targeted toward advanced lifters. If you are just pushing the weights, it seems you are more a beginner. You may want to consider going to a three day a week whole…
  • We are going to Hawaii in December; Maui and Oahu. My goal is to lose 35 lbs before that trip. I have my weekly weight loss setup for 1.5lbs a week. I figure that should get me there in the six months between now and then. 30 to 40lbs in three months is pretty aggressive. I don't know if that is really a doable target…
  • Thanks for all the replies guys and gals! I am currently 12 weeks in to the M&S full body dumbbell routine that is referenced in the sticky. I have been doing it consistently three times each week. Though a couple times my rest days got messed up because of traveling or I got to the gym too late and had to leave as they…
  • Good point. I started the thread just mentioning the book but then got carried away asking my own questions :o . I just started my own thread. :)

  • I picked up The New Rules of Lifting for Abs yesterday for $1 at the library book sale. Started reading it around the pool. Not sure how to fit it in with my regular routine or if I should just replace my current routine with one from the book. I am only about 40 pages in and will probably read it once cover to cover…

  • So the whole argument here is how we use the terms in context? Seems kind of silly and comes down to semantics. If someone says they are fat, they don't mean they literally are a single fat cell. Good grief. They are referring to their appearance. We don't need to be so precise in our use of the words.
  • They key (for a bikini body) is lifting heavy and a calorie deficit. Cardio is not necessary, but can help since it will afford you additional calories that you can eat back. But you can get in to a calorie deficit without cardio by using a calorie deficit through diet alone. They most important thing to avoid overeating,…
  • I started out about the same as you back in 2012. I was over 330 and thought 200 would be impossible. I finally got under 200 after 13 months. It can be done, but it wasn't easy and staying there wasn't easy either. I ended up getting back up to 260 just this past Christmas. Maintenance is the hardest part IMO. When the…
  • I am going to give IIFYM a shot. I have been doing simple calorie counting for several years. Started out originally at 335 and got as low as 195. Up and down a little and am currently around 250. I just recently started lifting and think I need to try to eat more protein and let up the carbs some. My main issue is with…
