I have tried Halo Top and did not like it, so I have stayed away from all of the other low cal ice creams. However, I love Edy's slow churned French Silk. It's probably not as low in calories as the others mentioned here, but I think for the taste and texture it is well worth it. It's only 120 calories for a 1/2 cup…

@polskagirl01 - I am a Pittsburgh native and went to school at Penn State. I grew up skiing at 7 Springs and visiting Idlewild Park as a kid. lots of great memories in that area. Such a pretty part of the state. Hopefully you will get some good trail running in while you are there!

I am home from my vacation in Napa where it rained almost the entire time. I hope to catch up with the 321 missed posts over lunch. I have very little to report on the running front. Other than the Flying Pig half, I have done almost no running since Boston. I snuck in a mile run in Napa to check out the town, but that was…

Truth! After my first Boston marathon I could not even look at water or Gatorade as I made my way down the shoot. I spotted the volunteer with the chocolate protein recovery drinks and I knew instantly that was what I needed. I was shaking so badly that she had to open it for me. I guzzled it down and was absolutely fine…

Trail running is great, but keep in mind that running on a paved, even surface and running on a dirt trail, especially typical single track, are two very different things. You cannot expect to compare your progress on one against the other. Most people are significantly slower on trails than on road, but the effort is…

@katharmonic - I definitely know where you are coming from. You have been pushing hard. Be kind to yourself and take the break you deserve. Everyone needs a little break every so often for mind, body and soul. I usually take it easy for about a month after my spring and fall marathons. I have not run at all this week due…

She looks so sweet!

I use vanilla whey in my coffee, iced and hot. I dissolve it in a little bit of water and then I add my coffee. It tastes pretty good to me. I have tried chocolate and did not care for it.

I love this picture. You look like a proud hubby! Sorry to hear about Mrs. Pastorvincent's leg. I hope it doesn't keep her sidelined. But I'm sure she will still be supporting you even if that is the case.

This is very true. If you insist on doing speed work, only do it once or twice per week, not on every run and not on your long runs. This is very important in order to avoid injury as well as burn out. When it comes to training, faster is not always better and neither is always striving to run more. You need to have a…

I definitely eat to fuel my workouts, but I must admit that when I am injured or taking it easy for some other reason, I struggle to not overeat. Definitely miss those extra calories.
-
@mbaker566 - Sorry to hear about your breakup. It's never easy, but a nice run with pups certainly helps a little, I hope. @polskagirl01 - Your post is really making me yearn to get back out there on the trails this summer. Can't wait! @amymoreorless Bada$$ indeed! two marathons in two days, not to mention travel, and…

Yes! I missed that you have been trail running. Trails are much slower than road for just about everyone.

If your ultimate goal is to run a half marathon at a pace that is faster than what you are currently capable of running a 10K, then I would suggest that you focus on one thing at a time. In this case, I think you should work on increasing your distance and not be so concerned with your pace. As @pondee629 suggested, find a…

@workaholic_nurse -Congrats on crushing your goal! @Katharmonic and @ContraryMaryMary - Congrats to both of you. Both of those events sound like so much fun! Fantastic job @_nikkiwolf- That is a great finishers photo. Worth every penny for the medal! Congrats! @7Lenny7- Hooray for your daughter! @Pastorvincent- Sorry to…

This is definitely the best advice you are going to get. Most new runners are surprised to learn that experienced runners almost never run as fast as they are capable of. Most of my runs are done at an easy pace up to a minute per mile slower than the pace I would run a marathon and 2 or more minutes per mile slower than…

When we did the Flying Fur (2 mile dog race for Flying Pig weekend) there were a group of Greyhounds there. Most of them even had little booties on some, but not all, of their feet. My friend made the comment, "Damn, the Kenyans are here", which cracked me up. I am hoping to run Pittsburgh next year (ahem, @shanaber, now…

@kgirlhart- Sorry to hear you are dealing with a bum ankle. If you are unable to run your half, can you defer to next year? That would take care of the packet pick-up dilemma. If not, maybe you could do the 5K or even just walk it? That way you wouldn't feel so bad about wearing the shirt.

Rolled oats with chocolate whey protein powder, dried tart cherries and coconut flakes

@7Lenny7- Good luck to your daughter and your neighbor. Sounds like they had some good coaching, so they should both do great! @PastorVincent - That statistic blows my mind! 20 percent??? I tend to wait until last minute to sign up for races because I worry about things that can happen in the meantime, but if I do sign up…

@7Lenny7- I have not tried it but a gentleman was recently asking about it on the LDR group forum. He was using it for a torn meniscus. You might want to search around for that thread. My husband was interested, so please let me know if you find it to be helpful. Also, congrats on your 50 miler. It took guts just to show…

Flying Pig half marathon on Sunday. I plan to run this one easy and enjoy the crowd. Hoping I can stick to the plan.

I could not stand the thought of not participating in the Flying Pig events this year so I went ahead and signed myself up for the half. I know that the best thing long term for my chronic tendinitis issues is to take it easy for at least a month after a marathon, so my plan was is to take it easy on the course and have…

So much respect for you and how you are dealing with this injury. Wishing you lots of good healing energy!

Aww, They are all sweeties, but I am loving Charlee there. That picture reminds me of one of my Stella Bean... She jumped from the boat and climbed up there. Total goofball.

Just now catching up on this thread ( as usual)... @polskagirl01 - Great job on the 5K and way to knock that woman out of fourth place! Great Finish! @katharmonic - Holy Cow, that Spartan race sounds like a beast! You are one touch cookie!! @katiejane83- Great job on your 5K and a super job on the fundraising. It's always…

I think you and my husband would get along fabulously. I am embarrassed to say how much he spends on " hard to find" bourbons. When we were in Boston, he picked up two bottles of Sazarac Rye and a bottle of Weller 107 that were collecting dust in a liquor store. Neither one of those bourbons stays very long on the shelf…

+1 more for rest. You should be in your taper anyway. Your training is essentially done. The only reason to run in a taper is to keep your legs moving and to keep your mind from going crazy, but the real goal of the taper is to rest and recover so that you are fresh on race day. Since life threw you a curve ball, you may…

Without a GPS signal, the Garmin is using the data it has collected from your outside runs to estimate how fast your are running on the treadmill. However, it assumes that your stride length and cadence match what you are doing outdoors, which is rarely the case. My Garmin tends to grossly underestimate my pace vs. the…

Thanks everyone for the comments and for your interest. Knowing that I had people following my race at home, some who never have even met me, definitely helped motivate me through the rough patches. If I haven't said it already, I really appreciate this group!
