I think the major difference is that Adkins was saying eat as much protien and fat as you want, with no concern for the calories or the quality of the items consumed. Adkins would not differentiate between a person eating only cheese and bacon and another person eating lean chicken and salmon.

I use GNC Amplified Whey Protein. As I understand from looking into different brands etc (but by no means an expert), this brand of why is slightly broken down already, so it is more readily absorbed when you use it, making it better for recovery after a heavy lifting workout. Downside, it is a bit pricey. I've had…

I would say that if you are starting from a fitness level of ZERO, it might be an okay place to start. But you have to keep in mind that the human body is amazingly adaptable, and will get used to those things vrey quickly. You have to up the intensity, and that doens't mean doing 100 crunches/pushups /etc. instead of…

I love that article! I re-read it any time someone posts it!

LOVED The Riches!!! Wish that was still on the air :(

I'm doind New Rules of Lifting for Women, and I was given just over 1900 calories for maintenance based on age, height, and weight. For fat loss, that program advises a 300 calorie deficit (1600ish calories for me). That's without any exercise at all. I eat back a good majority of my exercise calories, because otherwise I…

I'm 5'2 and 130 lbs. I've been trying to lose 10 lbs for a year, using a restrictive 1200 calorie diet and massive amounts of cardio. I was miserable, and when I couldn't take being hungry I overcompensated with crappy food choices. I have recently been converted to lifting, and I am feeling stronger, tighter, and leaner.…

I'm in the minority it seems of the "must finish no matter what" group. I don't come across it too often though, but that last book I just suffered through was What the ****ens by Gregory Maguire (of Wicked fame). I've really enjoyed nearly all his books (though I found Lost to be a bit boring), but this one was just…

Awesome, thanks! I was planning on lamb chops but didn't have a recipe! I'll probably be pairing it with super unhealthy cheesy potatoes however :)

Haha, I may put this in my own will :)

I'm 4 weeks into New Rules of Lifting for Women, and while I've only lost about half a pound, I've noticed increased strength and my husband says I look more toned. I've been struggling for 2 years trying to lose just 10 pounds, with my focus on trying to stick to 1200 calories per day and doing crazy amounts of cardio,…

I gained 20 pounds after I got married, before starting birth control for treating/preventing cysts. Since starting the pill though, I have found that I cannot lose weight at all. I had been less active and eating bad (thanks hubby!), but in the past two years I've tried eating just 1200 cals and working out like crazy and…

Don't be afraid to have fun and to really move!! I've been doing Zumba twice a week for 8 months now, and the worst thing is when people are too shy to have fun OR move enough to reap the full benefits! Will you mess up some moves? Sure, everyone does, no matter if they're new or been doing it for (8) months. But enjoy it,…

I wish the men would think "Oh, I should get out her way while she's lugging equipment into the only room with space, instead of standing in the hallway gawking."

I could be remembering this wrong, but in a physiology class I took in undergrad, as your body adapts to being more active, *most people* will start to sweat faster/earlier in a workout, but then also recover and stop sweating a bit faster after they are done. But I don't remember if the actual AMOUNT of sweat was…

This is awesome! It was such a pain to keep looking for the workouts on my Kindle and write them down. The calorie estimate is also great, a bit off from what I was doing so now I know!

One of my friends teaches 5th/6th grade mostly, so I get to borrow lots of YA books. I am about halfway through Matched, which anyone who liked the Hunger Games should give it a try. Just read Graceling and Fire, which is a YA fantasy series. The thrid book comes out soon. I have enjoyed Rick Riordan's follow up to Percy…

Both the parks in Anaheim and Orlando have healthier options if you are willing to look for them. As I remember, many of them have fruit and veggie trays you can buy, just about any counter service restaurant will have a salad option, and if you dine in any of the fine dining places there are plenty of healthy and…

Neat! This is great, since I am not going to miss out on enjoying the german chocolate pie I make once a year!

No worries Michelle! My week 4 has gone well, I started the 30 day shred and did zumba twice, and I've done pretty well on calories. Water has been getting progressively better too.

Awesome, I just started on Day One of Level One last night! I'm excited, I don't have a lot to lose, but I would really love to be stronger and I've never stuck with a strength program before.
