Welcome! I'm new too. Been reading and learning a lot here the past few days. Have also lost almost 3 lbs since 2/8 just by holding myself accountable for what I eat... We can do this!

I really didn't think I could do it. I figured if I made it half-way I could call it a victory. But breaking up the sets throughout the day, I was able to manage all 200! Thank you!

I was surprised when I started craving water, as well. That was years ago, when I first started consuming water in earnest. Soda was the thing I had a hard time letting go of, but I realized it was not the "cola" I craved, just the bubbles. So I keep sparkling water on hand, and whenever I get a carbonation craving, I have…

Relax! Keep eating right and burning more calories than you consume. Just wait until you see what happens at 12 weeks...at 24 weeks... and so on. Stick with it and you'll be impressed by your progress.

Hi Gary! Where in Alaska? I am in Anchorage.

That voice in your head has had its say, now you can ignore it. You are going to be hearing LOTS of voices out here telling you that you CAN do this. You need to stick with it. You deserve it. Change something up, if you want to, but don't quit. Pick a new exercise or activity to try, or find/invent a new recipe. Making my…

"Normal" is a relative term. Depending on many factors, one of which is your current weight, losing 10-12lbs in a week is not unheard of, but it generally doesn't happen beyond the first week or two (at least, it hasn't for anyone I personally know). Still, it is great progress, and you should be proud! Keep doing what you…

Don't be discouraged, Jim! You are making progress in the right direction, even if it seems infuriatingly slow right now. Stay with it. You CAN do this.

Welcome! I am new here, too. I have a long way to go, and lots of reasons I could use to convince myself I can't do it... so I need some friends to help drag me back to my feet when I stumble.
-
Been there, done that, too! Finally got tired of being tired and feeling useless all the time.

It wasn't luck... it was YOUR effort and determination! Congratulations, and enjoy your friend's birthday. :) Don't be discouraged if you don't see 4lbs drop per week... that would be unhealthy over a long span. 1-2 lbs a week is a pretty sane and manageable goal. Just keep at it and keep us posted on all your future…

At 5'5" and almost 280 (a few years back), I had the same view of exercise as you express. I was wrong! I am here to tell you... walk - even if you are just stepping forward and back in your living room at first, get your body moving. Slow, low impact movement will help you avoid injury as well as idleness.

Five pounds a month is a great amount to lose, no matter your goal. When I was younger (and more impatient) I tried a number of weight loss programs that started with a bang... lost 25+ lbs in 2-4 weeks. Yeah. NO. I should never have done it, and will never recommend it. Not healthy, and the weight came back, and brought…

How far under are you averaging? If it is too low, it could be messing with your metabolism...

You don't need to eliminate breads and potatoes, just make healthier choices... instead of white bread, choose a whole grain or multi-grain. As for potatoes, I still have an occasional baked potato. I just cut out fries and mashed made with cream and butter. I also really like baked sweet potatoes.

Hi Steph, My goal was much higher, but I used to weigh over 270 lbs and I got down close to 230 in four months by cutting "white" stuff out of my diet (refined sugars and flours, white rice, white potatoes, etc.), drinking lots of water, and walking. I had surgery to repair an abdominal hernia so I couldn't do strenuous…

I carry quite a bit around the middle too. The last time I lost enough to change pant sizes, I had lost 17 lbs. Everyone is different, though, I suspect.

Goodness! I just looked up abseiling... (rappelling is the term I was familiar with). You are much braver than I, and I wish you every good fortune.

At 47, I weigh 249 lbs. At 27, I was 272, my heaviest. I am 5'5". Add me!! :)

The way I see it, food is fuel. If you are going to be up and active, you can't let your body run out of fuel. I work sixteen hour days, untill 11pm. After that, I do schoolwork for another two or three hours before going to bed. If I stopped eating at 6pm, I'd be running on empty nearly half my day. Seriously, it is not…

I am 5'5". In college, I weighed 130 and was quite slim. I danced professionally, and competed in a beauty pageant... 5'6" at 100 pounds is very thin, indeed. Perhaps dangerously so...

Hesitation or not, I admire your courage in sharing. I understand what you mean about the pills that make you "care less"; it is almost as though they do nothing for that facet of depression. I was clinically depressed for years, but never sought treatment. I saw/knew what was happening to me and I didn't care. I kept…

If that photo is of you, you look very thin to me... would you mind sharing height and weight stats?

I was feeling pretty down today. Pretty useless. Even though I realize that is not valid. What I do matters every day, but today it all just felt so insignificant...

Hi! I am brand new here tonight, and I have been struggling with weight most of my adult life. I am 47 now and need to make this change... for me. But I really need help. I have tried to do this alone. Many times. I need to lose 80 lbs, and I know I can do it, just need that morale boost to keep going once I start. By the…
