  • I agree - more protein. Hard boiled eggs, tuna (in water), meat. These will keep you satisfied longer. You can do this!!!!
  • I don't "allow" it - it just happens. And generally the results are horrible. (Can you tell I just came off one???)
  • Do you drive in the city? At EVERY red light do isometrics. Pull your tummy in and hold at each red light. Grip the steering wheel and flex your arms muscles tight. Tighten legs and thighs. Rotate between these at long lights. You'll see results and no one will be the wiser that you are working out!
  • Check allrecipes.com They have a low cal potato soup, and many other wonderful recipes!
  • That's all true. But some of us need the guidance of a "diet" to help jump start things. And then we can flip the switch over to a lifestyle change. Also, if we've fallen off the lifestyle wagon, a short-term *diet* again helps us get back on it.
  • Yes 10 would be wonderful! I'm 5'4" at currently at 142. I started close to 150 and went down to 135 and now it's creeping back on. 128 is my ultimate goal! I just seem to have lost my resolve over the past 6 or so months. Oh yeah...ignore the little ticker. I haven't entered any of my weight since I started because I like…
  • I, too, had great success with it while I was on it. I highly recommend it for a quick loss.
  • I agree!! UPS often leaves boxes on my front step!! Anyone could walk by and take it. They only require a signature if you deliver to a business or if wine/liquor is being delivered (not that I'd know that personally!! LOL). I have all my deliveries come to my office now. A box on the front steps also lets anyone know that…
  • I weigh daily as well. There is nothing wrong with weighing every day as long as you know that there are going to be the fluctuations the others spoke of here. And yes, sodium is the biggest reason to see an UP in the morning. So watch that number carefully. I try to keep my sodium at 1000 mg at my doctor's advice. He said…
  • I did the Slim Fast in the cans a few years back. It's for two weeks. Anyone who goes on a strict diet for two weeks isn't going to get "good" stuff into their body. Take a good supplement. Watch the protein. A hard boiled egg might be a better choice than veggies. It worked for me....
  • Craisins, cinnamon and splenda brown sugar. I add it to Steel Cut Oats and cook it in a small crock pot. Wonderful warm breakfast to wake up too. I top with fat free 1/2 and 1/2 as an added treat!
  • Guess I'd have to wear a black one. I'm menopausal - or MEANopausal as my hubby sometimes puts it! Pretty funny actually. Glad to see it's not actually true!!!

  • It's not fiber. It's suppose to enhance the taste of the food and thereby make the food more satisfying. I'm getting desperate. I might fork over the bucks to give it a try.....

  • Try incorporating more fruit and vegetables into your meals. Roasted veggies are wonderful and very healthy AND filling. Remember too that food is meant to fuel to the body, not the soul. Find pleasure in something other than food and making those healthy choices for YOU will seem much easier.
  • I need to drop that 7 NOW as well. Any strategies???? Count me in!!!
  • Yeah, it's normal for runners, but if your really pumping on the elliptical, you are essentially, running. So that "puke factor" would apply there too. I try to eat something before a workout (it happens if I'm lifting weights with vigor too!) but not too much or too soon beforehand. But I also can't hit the road on an…
  • Sodium??? How much sodium??? Thanks!!!
  • Keep a glass of water or low cal soda in one hand at all times! And talk a lot. 3500 cals is a lot easier to eat than most people realize. The average Thanksgiving dinner is over 4000. If's there is a buffet, position yourself as far away as possible. I'm not looking forward to the parties either! It's a lot of work!!! LOL.
  • Excellent advice!!! Thanks!! I also intend on trying to keep a glass of water or diet 7-up in one hand at all times. It's really not about the food and doesn't have to be! Happy Thanksgiving!
  • Why does "enjoying the Holidays" have to include food? That's what I ask myself. If I'm there to connect with family and friends, why should food be such a big part of that??? I'm going to eat IF I'm hungry, drink WHEN I'm thirsty and enjoy the company of others.
  • Are you hungry? Eat them. Not? Then don't! I don't even record my workout cals because I don't want to "reward" myself with the extra cals. Chances are, you're under counting anyway. Besides, every time you burn an extra 3500 cals, you lose another pound! I'm in the minority - but I say don't eat!
  • Toss a roasting chicken into a big pot of water and let that bad boy cook for half a day. Then cool enough to be able to pull the chicken off the bones. Discard skin/bones, etc. Strain everything. Return broth and chicken to the pot and add your favorite veggies. Simmer till veggies are tender. Add whatever seasoning you…
  • Every time I reach a plateau (and yes it is VERY frustrating) and I'm also saying I'm not cheating by "much," I know EXACTLY why I've reached the plateau. Re-assess Re-commit and I Re-assure - the plateau will go away. You CAN do this!!
  • Good timing! I usually don't finish my water when I get back from the gym. I did today!!!! Thanks!!!!
  • Standing and hopping around while sending out faxes. Does that count????
  • Thirst is a definite possibility. Make sure your not cutting cals too much though... And also make sure it is actual hunger. As in stomach-growling-loud-enough-for-people-to-hear hungry!!!
  • I'm 5'4" and almost 58. I weighed 113-117 in high school and beyond. Through my adult life I weighed about 120-125. At 40 it started creeping up and now past 50 I hit a 150 high and then lost about 13 pounds. I'm aiming for 128. I don't believe we can have the bodies we had in high school. Not women anyway. If you've had…
  • I don't even enter my exercise cals because it adds them to the daily total allotment. I figure it this way: You need to burn 3500 cals to lose a pound. If you "earn" 3500 cals in a week AND eat them - you've either stayed at the weight you are, or only lost what you'd lose by eating only the 1200. If you eat none of them,…
  • Can we cheer on telepathically??!!! LOL!!! If so, you know we'll be screaming GO JILL GO JILL GO JILL!!!
