  • Same here. I have one coworker who notices if you lose a pound. Me personally - I'd be scared to say anything other than a vague "you look great today!" because I'm never 100% sure about the weight loss and never sure it's something they want to hear. You know - the old "so if I look thin now, you're saying I looked fat…
  • People here are ridiculous. And I absolutely agree that store bought cake just does not taste right. The frosting usually has a waxy/plastic-y taste to it that tastes nothing at all like homemade frosting with just butter and sugar in it. If people like it, then they should eat it, but forcing it on other people is absurd.…
  • Don't complain about it if you don't want to hear people tell you how they are worse off than you are. It's human nature. And they are probably trying to make you feel better about it, whether it worked or not.
  • Oreos, ice cream, fresh baked bread - can rarely stop until at least most of the loaf is gone. Chips... My husband keeps all of these things stocked in the house pretty much all the time, and it took years for me to just quit them altogether. If I eat a little, I crave more and more and it's like torture until I've eaten…
  • Cut out processed foods and it cuts out most of the salt from your diet. I realized the other day that if I don't add salt to my food I'm getting well under 1000mg a day on average (often only 300-400mg/day). That gives me plenty of room to actually add a little salt to taste on the things that I want to taste it on - it's…
  • I know the calories are over-inflated on MFP, but I want a log of what I actually did. My only other option would be to cut my exercise times/distances in half to get a more accurate amount, but I choose to log what I did and then only eat back half the calories or less (generally closer to 1/3). That seems to work for me.
  • I think that's the key - experimenting to see what makes you feel best. I don't just look at the scale, but I keep notes on how I feel when I eat a certain way - and if I was fighting cravings all day or if I felt satisfied. I've tried really low carb a few times and I feel low energy and tend to get headaches. So out with…
  • I'm thinking about 10lbs. I'm feeling reasonably comfortable in a bikini these days but it could be better. That would also put me right at the very top of my "healthy" weight on a BMI chart, which seems about right with my frame size and amount of muscle.
  • I know that for me it's not the amount of carbs but the type of carbs. If I eat veggies - those come with fiber, they fill me up, and I feel great. If I eat bread, on the other hand, or sugary sweets - I get a sugar rush, then a crash and I want more, more, more and it's very difficult for me to control how much I eat. And…
  • Haha - I was thinking that a babushka was supposed to be more like the scarf tied under the chin like that and thought I was confused for a while there!
  • Personally, I put hot sauce on everything instead of ketchup. Obviously you'd need to like spicy food, but you can find plenty of them that are just vinegar, chiles/peppers, garlic and salt, and some are fairly mild.
  • Just FYI, the OP seems to know this already, but you can't just cut back on gluten. If you are really sensitive to it, you have to eliminate it 100% or you'll still get a reaction. That's why even a little soy sauce is a big deal, crumbs of regular bread are a big deal, etc. That's the deal with the oats too - oats…
  • ?? I just said this happens at work. I just say no thank you, drink a glass of water and socialize while others eat cake. I get to explain my diet for the millionth time, but that's not making me question what I'm doing or want to eat cake. Easy. Maybe it's not easy for some people who are afraid of oversensitive people…
  • What exactly are you suggesting that I'm at risk of by continuing this so-called "unhealthy relationship with food"? I eat plenty and love a variety of fresh foods. I am happier and healthier than I've ever been before. My current diet is very easy for me to maintain... AND my friends and family (if not my coworkers)…
  • This makes total sense to me.
  • The thing is I DON'T WANT CAKE. I don't like it anymore. It makes me feel like crap when I eat it - even a little slice. I should eat "reasonable amounts" of stuff that I don't want so I can prove to you that I'm engaging in healthy moderate behaviour? That makes no sense. Edited to add - one of the main things I've…
  • Seriously. If my friends, family and coworkers have nothing better to talk about than my "weird" diet, I'm glad I'm making their life more interesting. When we have cake in the office, it IS what we talk about. Every single time. You're really not going to have any? You never eat cake? Why? Aren't you depressed? I'd kill…
  • Amen. There's not knowing and then there is actively deciding to buy someone a "gift" that you know they will not like at all. If the person doesn't know, they don't know. If you know this is coming in advance, point out that you're not eating sugar or cake and say you don't mind if others have it, but you'd prefer some…
  • This is my method too. I have unsweetened almond milk in the house for rare occasions where I need something like that, but I seriously use like one little container every 3 months or so. Most things you can just skip the cheese or milk (or sub with water), but if it just has to have it for a recipe to make sense, I just…
  • That sounds like the Bikram toe stand. I can't do that either with my knees - but in Bikram it's a progression. You start in their variation of tree, which is like a standing half lotus. You either hold your foot/ankle in place or bring your hands to heart center. And then if you were good with that on the first round, the…
  • Hahah - Come to think of it, the food I personally consider "clean" can, as a general rule, be washed and then eaten without falling apart/being ruined by the water. But you still have to stay under on calories if you want to lose weight.
  • I keep bags of fresh veggies in my fridge at the office and at home - sugar snap peas, green beans, celery, etc. - those make perfect snacks, or a side to the crockpot meals that I bring with me. And frozen blueberries are one of my favorites too. As far as fruits go - berries are some of the best because they have good…

  • Totally agree. I think personally, when I'm eating my verson of "clean" - it's hard to overeat. For me, that means no added sugar, no grains, no preservatives other than citric acid or sea salt, no dairy. If I'm eating veggies, meat, moderat amounts of fruit and nuts... I can PRETTY MUCH eat all I want and be right around…
  • That's awesome! I can stand up in Bird of Paradise but my leg is never straight and I'm kind of crooked. Same thing with Tittibasana/Firefly - my hamstrings don't want to fully cooperate quite yet.
  • Thanks! I found an app with a camera timer on it and decided to play around this weekend. The headstands are feeling great now - haha and the angle makes it look like I've got splits down too, but my feet are forward a bit, so that's still a work in progress. But it's fun to play with!
  • That's the one! I wonder what that has to do with being a cow herd?
  • 1. Egg 2. Pepper (Bell - Green or Red) 3. Brazil Nuts, Raw, Organic 4. Blueberries, Organic 5. Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Organic 6. Banana 7. Green Beans - Raw 8. Onion 9. Jalapeno Pepper 10. Brussels Sprouts Funny that meat didn't make my top 10. Though I think I use different entries for different cuts of beef, so that…
  • I know exactly what you mean. My feet have gotten wider too. Not great for fitting them in heels, but they feel so much healthier and stronger that it's all good. My toes look so much better now that they can spread out than they did all crunched up anyway.
  • Hah - I'm sure there is. I can think of one where you do an arm balance on your elbows only, so there must be. Heh. Horse is kind of like that, but only on one kneecap. You're basically kneeling on one leg and the other is in half lotus with the point of the knee on the ground.…
  • Yay, congrats! :)
