  • You're probably running too fast. Slow down and take your time. Run at a conversational pace, this might be slower than you would like but you have to build up slowly. Your lungs will soon adjust as your whole body, including your cardiovascular system, gets stronger and used to running. Good luck

  • I use the i-phone app. It's a great way of tracking how far you've gone. It also gives you your pace and shows elevation. Pretty cool app if you're like me and don't have a Garmin/Polar to track your runs.

  • Definitely this... Even the best elite runners sometimes look funny for example, Emil Zatopek have a look at his form, even Paula Radcliffe has a funny head bobbing thing going on. When I see someone running I'm usually thinking how lucky they are, wish it was me out there. Even if I've just got back from my own run LOL
  • Very good advice here. I love spinning. Each instructors class can be very different, so if your gym has more than one, I'd say try them all. I find that everyone is very focused on their workout, it's a really good environment.
  • Cool... the new course is going to be good. I did the first 10 miles or so last weekend. You'll love it! Last year Vancouver was warm and sunny, the year before (last time I ran it) it was cold and wet.   • I don't run on a treadmill but I would think you should get outside more. Even once a week for your long run, to get your legs and body used to the road and the weather. It's not so bad running in the rain. It may rain on race day. What marathon are you doing? I'm doing Vancouver May 6th.

  • I agree, not much difference between 5K and 10K, that is if your goal is to finish. Elites would disagree though! It's a whole different ball game doing a 1/2 marathon. 10% rule is important to avoid injury when increasing mileage.

  • Socks are pretty much trial and error. Some are foot specific i.e: a left and a right. I don't like them to be too loose, around the toes especially. In winter Merino wool running socks are great. Try some Vaseline to prevent blisters.
