What made you use honey over Maple Syrup? Most books and articles I've read have strongly advised against the use of honey in the Master Cleanse and only using pure maple syrup. I've been thinking about doing it, but I just can't see it working for me with my schedule.

going on your definition of starvation being 'a complete lack of food' 5:2 isn't starving yourself. It's restricting calories for two days and not restricting calories for 5 days. what amusedmonkey is stating is that it is a choice, and if it doesn't work for you then don't do it. 5:2 isn't unsustainable and people have…

The OP asked for advice on how to do the fast days. Not opinions on the diet. As for the OP, try going as long as possible without eating on your fast day and eat the 500/600 in the evening (that's what I find works for me anyway). Sometimes I sneak a cup a soup in at lunch time just to tide me over.

* lose 5lbs * don't drink any beer (but can have the odd G&T) * go swimming at least once a week * stick to my 5:2 diet * try and find a good non-fast day balance and a way of changing my eating mentality.

As long as you have a deficit it doesn't matter. Just don't go so low as to make you feel really horrible and light headed. MFP suggests 1200 and I agree. You putting the weight back on will have nothing to do with eating too little and losing the weight too quickly. Think about your lifestyle as a whole and make the…

Yeah this is what I've started doing. I'm avoiding beer and wine and sticking to the slim G&T and rum/vodka based drinks if I ever do fancy a tipple. I'm trying to cut down in general tbf though .

haha - my tummy is the first to lose. and that lowers my waist - my thighs stay big, (thanks Mum). Then my face.

Carrots - i agree. They take a while to munch through, and they make you feel full.

Possibly 1lb off a stone. So 13lbs?

People are made up of different types of fat and hold it in different places. Your surface fat may not have reduced as much as the fat surrounding your organs and veins (which is the baaadd stuff). So keep going and you'll notice a change eventually. Maybe try some lifting to tone up your muscles?

My mum is a doctor and she can't rate it highly enough. My parents are big ifluences on my life and so I'll take her word. But I have to stress it is very much a preference, it just works for me. I put the weight back on because I drank too much and ate crap food. It's not going to change my mentality on food totaly, but…

If you consume 1200 a day in food. and you're TDEE is 1890 then your deficit is 690 a day. That equates to 4830 calories a week and about 1.4 lbs. If you want to add another 0.6 pounds then you need to burn off another 2100 calories a week.

The textbooks would have you believe that 1lb of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So a calorie deficit of 7000 a week would equate to about 2lbs. But that's fat. You are likely to lose water weight and muscle mass if you have a deficit so it's probably a bit lower than 7000. A sustainable recommended weight loss is between 1…

My motivation is so I look good for when I marry the girl of my dreams in 19 months time. I also play a lot of football - and enjoy it. But with putting on some weight in the off season I'm struggling, and not enjoying it as much. So I want to lose some weight to help me enjoy that.

Thanks! I've just joined!

Good going! Unfortunately I put all that weight back on over a very gluttonous summer! Hopefully by my birthday in April I will have got down to my goal weight of 74 kilos.
-
That's how I see it - if I really want something to eat, I'll just wait until tomorrow! I'm still going to be logging my days and working up to maintaining an average deficit on my non-fast days, but there's more wiggle room to squeeze those temptations in.

I think we're long past anyone being able to give you any advice you're likely to take. My post doesn't tell you to do anything. It suggests you get professional help, like many other posts on here. They may be able to help with your cravings. But if we all had a miracle cure for that none of us would be fat!

if anything though, that's a real NSV!

Yeh, I think the help we're offering you is that you go and speak to a professional about your diet. This kind of thread is well beyond the realms of general public MFP talk and it's getting to sound quite a serious issue. If anything, a lot of people in this thread are here because they love food too much - like me! To be…

Haha that is a great idea. Thanks!

That's a great idea. I don't use IG that much but that could help!

I've done two half marathons before in the preceding years - so it's demotivating that I've not been able to do these. I am going to look at doing shorter distances though in the future. I was speaking hypothetically with regards to having a drink and a snack. Just using that as an example to illustrate how my mind can go…

I wear glasses when cutting them. Usually sun glasses cos they're more wrap around and cover more of my eyes.

I have experienced this as well, but only when going from a sitting position to standing up. Mum's a doctor and checked my BP and it was normal. I'm hoping it'll sort itself out. Would like to hear others' views on this though.

Yup. I have a torn MCL. Did it playing footie.
