I second emmie's comment. I would also like to add that we can make bike riding count, too, since some of us walkers can't always walk (like me). That being said, I used the "Technogym Wave" machine at my gym this morning--it simulates roller blading (without the falling down). I did 30 minutes and was drenched in…

Gotta try this recipe! Looks great! Thanks for posting it! Cheers! :drinker:

Okay, as many of you know, I've had some recent issues with achilles tendonitis, so I have to take it easy with the walking (I guess that going 6 days a week at 5+ mph isn't really a smart thing to do :frown: ). So, while my workouts won't necessarily be walking too much, I will consider them to be a "walk in spirit",…

You got it!!! I started Session 3's thread. You can find it here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/63934-beginners-walking-challenge-session-3 Cheers! :drinker:

Well, to be perfectly honest with you, it was SpunkieMunkie who started the first Beginners Walking Challenge. I just started the thread for Session 2. :flowerforyou: As far as a new thread for Session 3, I think that's a splendid idea! I've had to take a bunch of time off due to the resurgence of my Achilles tendonitis…

You are not being unreasonable. Your hubby is living in the dark ages. If he can't put the kids to bed once a week, then he needs to re-evaluate himself. I say that you go ahead and exercise--it'll improve your life dramatically because you'll start to feel better about yourself and you'll have some well-deserved "me" time.

Whew! I am definitely going (but not going as in the sense of going to the bathroom--in a bad way! )!! I did a cardio/strength class at the gym today - they call it the MIXX. That class can really kick your butt! Today, the instructor set up little stations & we rotated through them. We did 4 rotations and we…

Actually, I asked about this once and here's the answer--it's not the corn itself that your body can't digest, but rather, it's the hull of the corn. Think of the hull like a plastic grocery bag, with the actual corn itself the groceries in the bag. Basically, the inner kernal is gone into your belly and gets digested, but…

Could be plantar fascitis or achilles tendonitis. I have achilles tendonitis and am hoping it's not developing into plantar fascitis. Stretching is key, as is RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression?, Elevation) and ibuprofen to relieve the swelling. Tendonitis is caused from overuse (not sure about plantar fascitis). Obviously,…

Way to go Cindy! Welcome back Kristy! And your improvements sound great Flower! Still no walking yet, but on Saturday I did about 40 minutes of swimming. I alternated between upper body and lower body (did the crawl stroke--for upper body, I put those floaty-thingies between my legs & didn't kick and for lower body, I held…

Hi all, I had a nice stretching session this morning (cardio day off - gotta keep being nice to the tendon so that the tendon will keep being nice to me) - 15 minutes and it felt pretty good. After work, I did Day 3 of Week 4 in the pushups challenge. Whew!!! Talk about a CHALLENGE! I'm actually surprised that I could do…

Yes, you can definitely join us! :flowerforyou: We'll be looking forward to your nature updates as well as your updates on your walking!!! Cheers! :drinker:

Hi all! No walking today, but definitely got in some high-intensity cardio on the elliptical this morning! Whew! I was super-sweaty when I was all done! I also did Week 4, Day 2 of the 100 pushups challenge last night. Cindy, I don't know HOW you can do that! It's SO hard for me! Sure, I can pretty much whip out the first…

It's super-awesome. I bring it to work and I shamelessly read it out loud to people and insist that they check out this article or that article! But then, I have to stand right there because I'm afraid to let the magazine out of my sight for fear it will run away with the person who's looking at it!

I can honestly say that there's never been a Banks/SHBoss post that I haven't learned something from. This is another in a great line! ...and I wanted to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting that you liked the magazine On Fitness. I absolutely LOVE that mag! Talk about learning the most you can about…

You may not get the same results with stevia. I think that the sugar not only makes the jam sweet, but it also helps it to "set up". Last year, I made rhubarb jam with rhubarb, sugar, and sugar-free jello. It tasted fine but was very runny. This year, I made rhubarb jam with rhubarb, sugar, and regular jello. It tasted…

There are many protein shakes out there--it depends upon what you're looking for. Personally, I try to avoid the artificial sweeteners that are around in so many things, so that really cuts down on the selection. Also, you can choose between type of protein - dairy whey, soy, egg, hemp, and more. According to the current…

I totally agree with the addition of a banana. I make steel cut oats, myself. I can make 4 plain servings at a time in my rice cooker and then I split it up into 4 bowls for use throughout the week. When I go to reheat it, I will cook it fo ~ 45 seconds in the microwave, then add sliced banana, cinnamon, and 1/4 cup of…

Great story, cpafford! That's a great reason to keep up with the morning walks!!!! Hi everyone!! Today I started back to doing some cardio. I used the elliptical for 35 minutes so that I could be a little bit more gentle on my achilles tendon. Also, I found that I could stretch it a bit as I was working out. I feel so much…

I recently read a post about this--try looking into a thrift shop for a few pieces of "in-between" clothes to keep you going until you hit your goal. Or you could look for a seamstress or tailor who can take in what you're wearing now for less than a new set of duds (I'm not sure how much a good seamstress or tailor costs,…

Way to go, Aunt Meredith!!! I'm very happy  that your diastolic is down!!! And it doesn't look like you have too terribly far to go to get to Goal #2! Cheers to you! :drinker:

Just checking to see if anybody is still out there walking! Cheers! :drinker:

Good for you cpafford!!! That's the exact right spirit! Cheers! :drinker:

Hey westenfan, Go find Harley RIGHT NOW. You got him? Okay. Look deep into those super-cute puppy dog eyes and promise him that tomorrow morning you WILL take him for a walk--even if it's just around the block. He doesn't care if he goes three miles or three sidewalk squares! He just wants to get out and get moving with…

If you have a treadmill at home, you can train your dog to run on the treadmill, too. We're working on our youngest (just over a year old, in my ticker below). She's finally to the stage where she will walk with the belt running, but it takes a LOT of patience! She's part beagle and still loves to chew on everything. I've…

Wow! Now THERE's a reason to incorporate a little kick-boxing into your fitness routine! Way to go, Cindy! I'm sure he was thinking to himself, "How in the heck can I keep up with that woman on her fitness mission!" Good thing you lost him! Here was my workout today (still no walking yet :frown: ): - 15 minutes…

Hi curvykatie, I also peeked at your diary. I agree with keiko in that you probably should be taking in more fruits/veggies daily. I noticed that you have orange juice in the mornings (sometimes). Is it possible to switch that to a real orange? You'll get more fiber and hopefully feel more filled up. As far as figuring out…

Welcome to our challenge, mouser79! Cheers! :drinker:

I would second the Shock Absorber bras. I also have a couple of Royce Impact Free bras that I like and another one (I'm wearing it now, so I can't see the name). Obviously, you can't just run out to Wal-Mart to get these suckers. Here are two places online from which I"ve ordered bras: www.herroom.com www.figleaves.com…

Hey Jenna! If you're anything like me, prepare for noodle arms!!!!  ...best thing about the workout was that when I got home, I made a protein drink (chocolate whey powder) and put in a tablespoon of baking cocoa and about a half a tablespoon of agave nectar (for sweetening). I tell you what, it was like…
