  • Come on in and join us, Bleem!!! We're happy to have you. You know, just as it's never to late to find and join MFP, it's never to late to catch the wagon on the Beginners Walking Challenge!!! Cheers, :drinker: Deborah
  • Hey Blue, I totally know where you're coming from on this one! One of the out of shape guys with whom I work said that he needed a workout that would make him sweaty when he pooh-poohed walking when I suggested that as an easy beginner exercise (he'd mentioned he was wanting to get into shape). I am considering working…
  • Hey Spunkie! Glad to see you finally have a good diagnosis so that you can attack this thing and get on with your life! You can't leave this walking challenge (and we could never throw you out) because 1) you STARTED the challenge :flowerforyou: and 2) water walking counts as walking. So we'll be expecting to see…
  • You know, Jenna, you could check out some info on Clean Eating (if you haven't already). That might help you with your intake. It could be something that's used in the processing of food that you would never think of (which is probably the root of a lot of food allergies, but I'm not an "expert" in that field by any…
  • Wow. :noway: Does this mean you're allergic to exercise? I'd heard people joke about that, but I guess it really happens! Wow again. I hope that your hives clear up! I guess you could cut wheat out of your diet to see if it's the first one. Either that, or you're allergic to Florida, so stay away from there!…
  • Hi all, Got back not too long ago from the gym, where I walked 5.5 miles on the track in 1 hour & 4 minutes. I managed to get 5.2 miles in at just a few seconds over 1 hour! And my 5K walking time was 35:10 (5 seconds faster than last Saturday)! I'm pretty happy about that! Hopefully, all the calories I burned will come in…
  • Thanks for the info, Dave! I've been wondering about Skinny Cow & was about to check out the ingredients on my next shopping trip. Now I don't have to do so... For "real" ice cream, you could check out the Haagen Dazs 5. Ice cream with 5 (count 'em, 5) ingredients. NOT low-cal at all (or low-fat), but if you'd like to…
  • Wow, Cindy! You're doing great! Keep up the good work!!! Here are my stats for the week: Day 1 - Saturday, 06/06/09: 34 min walking Day 2 - Sunday, 06/07/09: 41 min walking Day 3 - Tuesday, 06/09/09: 31 min walking Day 4 - Wednesday, 06/10/09: 64 min walking + 30 min bicycling I hope everyone had a great week! ...btw,…
  • If you have dogs, I'd suggest the treadmill. If you're not using it, they can--it'll burn off extra energy so they're not as destructive. ...in fact, although I have a gym membership (and access to all the cardio machines and track and pool that I can ever want), tonight I'm going to look at a slightly-used treadmill--for…
  • I am also a fan of steel cut oatmeal! That stuff is AWESOME! I make mine in my Black & Decker Rice Cooker (the one that's also a veggie steamer). It's SO MUCH easier to clean the plastic rice bowl than the metal pot. It's also the whole "set it and forget it" kind of thing. I do my oats/water ratio the same way I would do…
  • So, no workouts for me today (I think). :embarassed: However, I did walk for 63 minutes yesterday (I got in 5.1 miles in 60!!!) morning and a 35-minute bike ride with hubby in the evening. We're going to check out a treadmill this evening, so I may not be able to get my workout in. However, if all goes well,…
  • Hey taxgirilie! Don't think that you've "gained" 2.5 pounds--that was probably due to water retention caused by the sodium in the hot dog. Don't beat yourself up about what the scale says--just take heart in the fact that you're working hard at improving yourself! Sometimes it takes the scale and the clothes we…
  • Way to go, spunkiemunkie!!!! I'm so glad you did it! I'm even more glad that you ended up having fun!!  I hope that the foot is improving. From what I hear, plantar fascitis is one of those really bad things that happen to really good people and it takes some time to heal (stupid feet!!!).…
  • Losing breast weight is entirely up to your body (not necessarily what you want it to do or what you'd like it to do :grumble: ). I know--I started out with a nice normal 34C prior to gaining weight. I lost about 25-30 pounds and my bra size decreased in band (due to loss of back fat) and my cup size INCREASED (due to the…
  • Hi, When I was in high school, I had straight A's--I was Salutatorian of my graduating class (#2, missed #1 by a tad, but not much! ). Anyway, I checked with an Army recruiter at the time so I could get money for college (folks couldn't afford anything and neither could I). I was basically offered tank driver (keep…
  • I agree with all of that--it's REALLY gross! Another nasty thing is that people should really either brush their teeth or chew gum right before getting on a workout machine first thing in the morning at the gym. This past weekend, I was about 15 minutes into my groove on the treadmill when a woman got on the treadmill next…
  • Splenda is considered an artificial sweetener even though it is "made from sugar" because man-made efforts are put into modifying it into something other than sugar.
  • ...I just checked out Kaizen's website to check out their nutrition info: http://www.kaizenprotein.com/nutrition.html It shows that they use sucralose (Splenda) in their protein powder in addition to stevia. Bummer!!!! :grumble:
  • ...don't forget VIOXX and all those other wonderful anti-inflammatories that ended up causing heart problems (although when I was on VIOXX, I'd easily have taken the risk, since my back pain was so awful!)...
  • Hi all! I went back to the track at the gym today after my week of treadmill training (to get my walking speed up) and I found that I'm averaging about 2 seconds a lap faster! Not only that, but I also went from a 37+ minute 5K walking time to a 35:15 5K walking time! I am SOOO happy that I've improved! ...of…
  • Tag for later! ...good info! I'm thinking about starting some whey protein stuff (my protein is pretty low and my fats & carbs are pretty high, so I'm thinking about adding in some more protein!!!)... :flowerforyou:

  • You could get some chocolate protein bars and put them in the candy drawer (or another drawer just for yourself). The Special K protein bars are about 180 calories or so (which is "cheaper" calorie-wise than a candy bar!) and they don't taste too bad. My hubby (a consummate carb-o-holic) seems to like them, so they may…
  • I haven't tried it yet--I'm WAY too chicken! :embarassed: I am thinking that I'm about to embark on the one hundred pushups program. I'm intrigued and I WOULD have done the pre-test this morning if my hubby hadn't irritated me so much! :grumble: I need for him to 1) show me a proper pushup, 2) count my proper pushups (and…
  • Come on and join us, akana07!!! We love to welcome more walkers!!!! Cheers, :drinker: Deborah
  • Way to go, kidvicious!!! You inspire me to try to do more! I'm almost feeling guilty that today is a cardio day off! :ohwell: ...although I'm wondering if it counts to have my heart rate go up because grocery shopping tonight was irritating? Hmmm
  • I'm not a runner (a walker who's working on 5+ mph speed), but I do have a "running computer" HRM. Hubby got it for me for my birthday and I love it love it love it!!! It's a Polar RS200. It comes with a chest strap, foot pod (so you can track speed as in mph once it's calibrated), and a wrist unit. You can set…
  • Tag for future reading (as in again and again)...
  • ...hey, at least you didn't GAIN any weight!!!
  • ...yeah, you should only have it if you're going to top it off with a nice dollop of Cool Whip!!! (yep, that's sarcasm from me!)
  • Pretend like this meal will be the last you ever have on this earth and tell yourself you want to enjoy the whole experience. That means eat slowly and mindfully. Be into the entire experience--the scents, the textures and feel of the food in your mouth, the taste, the sight (boy, can they present their food!), and the…
