Welcome to our walking challenge tabbyh25! Walking is an outstanding form of exercise and one of the most forgiving there is out there! I hope you will find this challenge fun! Cheers, :drinker: Deborah

Well, vanity-sizing is what our American clothing industry is doing to us. Say you fit into a size 14 in pants. About 10-15 years ago, that 14 would have been something like a 20. I found this out in a rather annoying way. I'd lost a bunch of weight and fit into a 6 or 8. I thought, Yippee! I can fit into my clothes from…

I just read some of the stuff in the "portion" section. How awesome!!! I love the "Zeno's Paradox of Portion Control"!!!

I've heard that the French don't vanity-size their clothing. That's cool! ...in case you didn't know from the above, I'm TOTALLY AGAINST vanity sizing!!!!!

Well said ckakask! While I didn't shy away from math and science in school (the girls in my class were pretty much mean  regardless, so I ended up being unpopular and was free to choose to follow my passions), I know what you mean about male scientists! I joined the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician out of…

If you have access to the internet while you're away, check out the following website: www.healthydiningfinder.com It can help steer you to the *better* dining choices in whatever area you're visiting. Of course, it's not the "be-all, end-all" for finding healthy dining options, but it can be a good starting point. You can…

Welcome Nita! Today is my cardio day off--but I will walk tomorrow (I'm hoping for 45 minutes or so)! Cheers to us! :drinker: Deborah

Woo-hoo! Go us!!!!! :drinker:

Luckily for me, I didn't get anything like a DVT--BUT I DID gain weight on Depo (and AFTER Depo :grumble: ). I would also be completely wiped out for 2 weeks after each shot! Not really my cup of tea! I do believe that there have been studies that show (at least anecdotally) that women have been known to gain weight due to…

Of COURSE we want you! The more the merrier! Let's get a "herd" (in a good way, of course) or a "gaggle" of walkers going! I think that we'll be posting mostly our times and dates for walking. The weight post is the icing on the cake, so to speak. At least, that's my opinion, anyway! :ohwell: Welcome to the Walking…

The most accurate way I've seen to find out how many fat calories one burns during exercise is to have an exercise metabolic rate test. You'd be hooked up to a computer that will measure the breath that you exhale as well as your heart rate (using a heart rate monitor). Then the fitness person will start you out on the…

Hey guys, If you'd like a little info on fitness walking, here is a link to a Mayo Clinic article on the subject: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/walking/HQ01612

How about checking in on Friday mornings? We can say "I walked XX minutes on Day 1 (put in the date), XX minutes on Day 2 (put in the date) and XX minutes on Day 3 (put in the date)." Any extra walking days can be added and we can (as a bonus) put in our weight loss for the week if we wish. Does this sound okay to…

No time like the present! How about we start this Sunday (May 31st) and go until July 11th?

Personally, I think that a walking challenge may be better served by a frequency/distance/speed/endurance type of goal rather than a weight lost kind of goal. That way, you incorporate walking into your daily life and you will be more apt to stick with it whenever you finally reach your goal weight. That being…

I walk a lot (it's pretty much my major form of exercise) and it's really helped me shape up my hips & butt. I'm more than happy to join in with you all! How is everyone's fitness level? When I first started walking, it was on the treadmill and since then, I've switched to the track at the gym (due to Achilles…

Hi Todd, Here's a post that has a really long explanation about water--I don't know if you saw that in your thread search or not, but I thought I'd let you know about it, anyway: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/51061-water In the article posted, it does mention that, after a while, the trips to the bathroom have a…

Another great recipe post--Tami, you're so awesome! I made this for yesterday's "grill out" (with the Cooking Light Broccoli Salad). My goodness it is SOOO good! ...and while shopping for the ingredients, I found chopped parsley in a tube. Now, I know that sounds a bit odd (and a bit yucky), but I must say it's a huge…

Yum, yum, yummy!!! I made this for a "grill out" day yesterday. It's SOOOO good! It's like a broccoli waldorf salad! I highly recommend it for anybody doing some summer outside eating! :flowerforyou:

I have found that I can't skip too many workouts in a row or else the next thing I know I'm a couch potato! The most I can take off from working out is 1-2 days in a row. So, yes, low motivation for working out is very much a problem for me (especially if I didn't work out the day before!). In fact, I didn't work…

Hey Kelli, I just read a thread that might give some insight to your dilemma. Look at the following: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/53880-has-anyone-tried-this-just-curious I don't know if this is the answer, but at least it's one explanation--don't give up!!! :drinker: -Deborah

Concrete is very unforgiving on your feet, as you can probably tell. I remember from a long time ago (probably something like 20+ years ago, when I used to run cross country in high school) being told by somebody that if I was going to go for a long run, I should try to do it on a natural surface (grass, dirt path, even a…

I wouldn't say that walking isn't enough. My main source of exercise is walking and boy am I doing well (my butt and hips are shaping up quite nicely). I also have dogs (all 20 pounds and below) and I'll tell you one thing about walking the dogs--the intensity just isn't there. A dog walk is 3.0 - 4.0 mph (depending upon…

Well, perhaps you could tell your hubby that since beagles are relatively high-energy (I have two bea-tzus & a schnoodle; a bea-tzu is a beagle-shih tzu and a schnoodle is a schnauzer-poodle), it's your new workout buddy. I see lots of walks in your future! 1/2 beagle puppies are great! One of my bea-tzus turns 1 year old…

I LOVE the longer jeans one! That happened to me (I was thinking--prior to losing weight--that I had to be really tall, 'cause all my pants were getting to be high-watered!) Your *kitten* (or hips) don't run into the desk when you walk by somewhat close to it! You could spend hours looking in the mirror just to see…
