  • I'm 5'3", 34 years old and have lost 76lbs. in a year. I now have a healthy BMI and am one pound below my goal weight, but I'm hoping to lose another 5-15 lbs (I haven't decided how much yet and am taking it 5lbs. at a time). It's taken a while, but consistency has been the key.
  • Right now, I'm on a run 3X/week and bike 3X/week schedule (each for 30 minutes) and one day of rest. I've been having troubles with my knee again lately - it's killing me after a run, but doesn't bother me when I bike.
  • I'm pale and have always bruised fairly easily, but since I started my weight loss journey last summer, I seem to always have bruises on my legs that take forever to heal. I eat lots of fruits and veggies, I take a daily multi-vitamin and B12 (I do have a B12 deficiency) but I've had blood tests that show that my iron and…
  • Your proposed path is very similar to what mine was. I'm also 5'3" and I started last July at 214.5lbs. I originally set my goal weight at 141lbs. (healthy BMI) but adjusted halfway through to 139.5 lbs. so that I'd have a 75lbs. weight loss. Well, here I am, a year later and 138.5lbs. This was accomplished by eating…
  • You definitely need to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet.
  • I track every single day and I track every single thing that goes into my mouth (get your minds out of the gutter!)
  • An interesting observation - I was at SportsCheck this weekend checking out what they had on sale for workout gear. The only sizes that were on the sales rack for the ladies were the 1X, 2X, and 3X. So, maybe this means that plus-size workout gear generally doesn't sell well (perhaps because a lot of people don't realize…
  • The only one that I'll eat is the herb roasted chicken and I probably have it once a week for supper. I pair it with a nice salad, so I'm not starving.
  • Run 3X/week, bike 3X/week, and hopefully lose 3 - 4lbs this month. I've given myself until August 12th (I have my first 5km race on September 23rd, so I figure I need a good 6 weeks to transition from the treadmill).
  • I like her 'Flaunt your wheeze'. I really need to do that because I try to hide the fact that I have asthma and I feel self-conscious when I huff and puff.
  • I was wondering about this as well. I was going to buy one the other day, but an iPhone just seems so big to run with on your arm. It doesn't bug you?
  • Eat your fruits and veggies!!
  • I'm 5'3" and apparently my ideal weight is 122 lbs. I do have a small frame but also big boobs, so I'm thinking that my ideal is probably more like 124-127 lbs. At 139lbs., I'm now in the 'healthy' weight range for my height and age, so I'm going to take it 5lbs. at a time and see what really is ideal for me.
  • No, but I know that I really need to start. I'm hooked on cardio and it's hard to switch my mindset.
  • I've had issues with my weight for about the past 10 years. All my life, I was always a healthy weight and was into sports. Then, once I had my son, I had about 15-20lbs of extra weight and then continued to add about 5-10bs a year after that by not eating well and being sedentary. I decided last summer that enough was…
  • I wish that I could say that I don't, but I do.
  • I have a cup of peppermint or chai tea with breakfast and a mini can of Diet Coke for supper, but it's plain ol' water all of the rest of the time.
  • I hear you - the closer I got to goal, the more my weight loss slowed down. I now average 0.5 - 1lbs. per week which was/is frustrating because ideally, I'd like to lose another 5-15lbs and I want it gone quickly! However, I started looking at it from a different perspective, I'm now (categorically) at a healthy weight, so…
  • Wow, great job!!
  • I find that in general, most sports clothing lines do not cater to overweight women. It's only been in the past year or two that I've even noticed plus sized Nike and Adidas clothing for women in stores. Before, XL was the largest they went up to, which would have been probably a size 14. Now that the big dogs are on…
  • I think that 'everything in moderation' can be dangerous for some people, but it can be the key to longterm sustainability for others. But I do think that you have to exercise moderation even when practicing the 'everything in moderation' mantra. For example, for some people, 'everything in moderation' might mean eating…
  • Meh, I've lost 75lbs and I have a mini can (approx. 200mls) of Diet Coke pretty much every day. I know that the aspartame probably isn't good for me, but we all have our vices.
  • I'd recommend going up to the 10lb. one even if it does feel a bit heavy right now. I do the Shred it With Weights video as well and used the 5lb. kettlebell for the 1st workout, but felt it was too light so I've been using the 10lb. ever since. I'm fairly wimpy (ha!) but the 10lb. one is manageable. I'm probably going to…
  • In Canada, you can buy them at Loblaws/RCSS and Costco.
  • I have a hard time with turkish get-ups, too. Ironically, I can't seem to do them when the kettlebell is in my right hand (my stronger side) but I can when it's in my left. Riddle me that, Batman!
  • I love Lululemon and work out in the clothes (seriously the comfiest clothes ever!). However, I'm chesty myself and wouldn't rely on their sports bras or the built-in bras to keep the girls tamed.
  • Take your inhaler before you work out vs. waiting until you can't breathe.
  • Yep, I have this problem too since I've lost all of my weight. I attribute it to the fact that I don't have any padding left so it's bone on mat (seriously, my *kitten* is now so flat it's practically concave. LOL!)
  • Great thread! I'll add my advice for the ladies: - if you're short, you can usually get an awesome deal by buying a men's small frame bike instead of a ladies bike. - switch out your seat for a good, comfy one as soon as you buy your bike. The narrow seats that come standard on bikes suck *kitten* and are really hard on…
  • Seriously, go visit your local bike shop and see what kind of deal you can find. I got my Kona for $300 and it was regularly $1000.
